Re: 69 Camaro B/S

The motor mount deal reared its ugly head again. To my understanding the BB mounts roll the motor 1/2' to the passenger side. With the SB mounts I loose the clearance on the header, Its not touching but its as close as it gets, I guess a small dent is in order. I also had to change the Z bar out for the SB one.

Nice job on your project, can I ask why you had to change ZB to the Small Block one?

Thanks!
I used SB frame and motor mounts for the oil pan to clear the drag link. From what I have read the BB mounts roll the motor 1/2" to the passenger side. The BB z bar is 1/2" longer than the SB one to acount for that. I was looking at shimming out the frame mount for the z bar but with the SB one it fits like a glove.

This is the same reason I'm tight on the header. Stahl recommended the BB mounts with these headers.

Honestly, if it was mine I'd face the mounting bosses off about .125 to move the box laterally. The rag joint should accomodate this. The column could be loosened up and lined up accordingly, as well. Then, no header gasket...just a thin bead of sealer like Valco Aluminized silicone.

For what it's worth. -Al

Do a mock up with a Vega Box. Note: You may need a special Pitman arm if you go that route.

Calvin Elston makes the nearest smallest motor mounts for your car. You can put the motor where you need it to be. Also save a lot of time changing motors. The work like a motor plate. Completely NHRA legal for stock eleminator.

I originally was gonna go this route but was talk out of it. I ended up using a stock manual box since its a little more heavy duty.

And a very cost effective idea too.
