Ron Mancini worked in the trans lab back then and I was the new kid in the Dyno Lab (next building over) 1967. I found Ron and used to sneek awy from my lab and we would bench race allot. All I wanted to do back then was DRAGRACE, anything at all, it was a true passion. I'm sure I drove everyone nuts. I literally almost lost my job at Chrysler because of all the time off for racing. I would go to allmost every test day at Detroit dragway or Milan when the Racegroup would rent the track. Yea, I had the Dream Job, everything just kinda fell into place. Early on I had a 440 maxwedge Plymouth that I would take to the test days and make about 50 or so runs in a day. Got a lot of practice with the 4spd. Oh well, great fun! Thanks for the intrest. Here's a few of Shirley Shahan's '65 A990 Plymouth Belvedere called "Drag-On-Lady"...in the first photo shows it with no hood scoop, was it a pin on hood because I don't see any hood hinges.

I didn't know Gail other than selling my car to him, this made me remember what must have been, a ride of a lifetime, I gave him when he came to look at the car. I can only emagin how narrow my side street must have looked from the passenger seat, at the top end of third gear! It was realy nuts when I think now, the rear tires had at least 3 lbs of air and it was real dark and very laoud! I think Gail's eyes got real big and he said, "I'll take it" |
