Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Just the opposite for me Brent...I'm not going to buy another truck that would pull an enclosed trailer hehe. :p

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
I am new to class racing, as my '69 Camaro G/SA has only been parked in my garage for just over a week, but I tow on an open trailer with a 2011 Ram regular cab, short box, 4x4.
I had a choice of buying an enclosed trailer this year or buying the above car, which I looked at a year ago and was out of my budget at the time. I chose to buy an open trailer and use the difference to be able to afford the car. I did buy smart enough that the loaded trailer will fit in my garage, but only with 8 inches to spare. I know it has been discussed on this site before, but towing a race on an open trailer is just cool. |

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Due to the lackluster performance of the 327 I decided to pull it out of the car yesterday. Just before stripping it down I did a compression test on it and found cranking psi of 100# on one side of the engine and 150# on the opposite side. It was only then that my partner volunteered the information that he had timing issues with it when it was in the street Nova...my bet is every valve in the engine is burnt lol. Amazing it could muster a 7.43 in it's condition...I'm guessing a solid 6.90 pass or better once it is sealed properly.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
check it out...the inside of the engine is as clean as the outside of the truck...it was used to tow a Comp Elim car , back in late '80s to '96... I bought it in Jan 2012 after 2nd owner had only put 20,000 miles on it, since '96...it has 146,000-147,000 now...ive put about 7k of those miles on it.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
That's a great looking truck Brent. We rode up to Clarksville Saturday morning before going to the track to look at a 1989 Chevy 3+3 dually that was for sale. It had a terrific body, but the 454 was missing most of the emissions hardware...had to decline as it would have taken a chunk of change to put it back into compliance assuming I could locate all the pieces.
Back to the 327 - Sure enough nearly all the valves in both heads were leakers...that will be remedied Wednesday. Will do a leak down on all cylinders before it goes back in the car, but I suspect all will be acceptable as the engine only has around 100 miles total since it's build. Will check again once running and can build a little heat in it. |

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Thanks Thomas... it is now carbureted and gets about 8mpg, and runs way better than it did with TBI...
Cant wait to hear how Rich's car runs, with valves sealed up... |

Rich, ramp trucks are 'way cool. There's one on ebay right now that would look pretty sweet with your Camaro on it. -Al

RAMP TRUCKS RULE !!!
Do it ! Do it ! Do it ! :D (I know, I'm not helping) :) |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
I shot the fellow with the ramp truck an email asking the current mileage on the engine...it's a '96 Turbo Cummings.
Edit: He replied with 130,000 miles...calling in the morning. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps540c3f20.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6475f165.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps0b005224.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps9781aeba.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc04fcf81.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps0de6fcb5.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps282eca31.jpg |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Got up this morning and just could'nt enthuse myself to drive four hours to go look at the truck. It appears to be a good one, but heck I could buy a complete Jericho set-up for the car for $7500. If it were closer I might have talked myself in to it. Here is the ad if anyone else wants to bite... http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/4691276882.html

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
That looks like a heck of a truck... That thing wouldnt even know your car was on it! My grandpa(RIP) installed one , in a '79 F350 Ford, single cab, long bed...wasnt a dually... it was 359 cube Cummins TUrbo...That is the meanest truck i have ever seen...it would pull 2 tractors on a 36+ foot gooseneck trailer, like it was nothing.... and it was awesome on fuel... around 20mpg.....

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Finally got the 327 sorted out...not a bad little motor considering it was built for the street.
http://vid434.photobucket.com/albums...pssjoh1dtx.mp4 After clicking off a string of 7.36 time slips during time trials this evening I naturally put a 7.36 dial on the car for first round of eliminations. For some unknown reason it took a voodoo turn and dropped two numbers in 60' and broke out with a 7.34 on the brakes killing 2mph from the previous time trial run...who knows what mph I really killed. Partner was convinced it would repeat so he bought back in. I was not convinced at all especially when he wanted a 7.32 on the glass for second round, but it was his money so I obliged. Went red and ran it out just like a trial and it went right back to where it had been all afternoon with a 7.36 . One of these days maybe he will start listening to the driver lol. The car just doesnt leave hard like it used to and I have yet to figure out why. Maybe by the time I get the other motor together this spring I will have found something. Good consistent car except for that one fluke run. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps1278b1b9.jpg |

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Rich , did you make that panel, where your heater controls, and radio were? Or did you buy it? Im gonna take my radio out, and can buy a delete plate, but would consider removing the heater controls, too, if i can make that area look as good as yours does....http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psd9a213c8.jpg

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Guys, the rulebook states, about three times, heater controls must remain in dash.
There were some GM cars made that were heater delete. A friend had a 68 Chevelle with NO factory heater or defroster ,that he had shipped back here from Hawaii when he got out of the Army... So that would be your point of defense. There are a few ounces worth of switches and levers that can be trimmed off the back side of the control panel. |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Heater delete was an option in 1967 for the Camaro (H designation on the trim tag). Fed mandated a defroster in 1968.
Brent - Looks like the delete option carried over to Firebirds as well ( K designation on the trim tag). If you claimed as a 1967 you would be legal. |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
So a '68 couldnt have been ordered without a heater? Mark, i saw that in the rules, that heater controls had to stay in the dash... but, i havent done the research on whether it was legal or not, to do as Rich's car has been done.
I didnt figure there was alot of weight there... radio is definitely comin out...im sure its worth atleast .0001 hehe |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Brent - My research showed that beginning in 1968 all cars were federally mandated to have at minimum a defroster.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Probably not that easy for Brent. I believe there would be a door change with vent windows and a cylinder head change also. To claim his car as a 67. Tony

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Merry Christmas Tom! Rich, im sure you'll find more... Im just hoping to go better than 11.20s , by season's end... My main 2 changes will be transmission and cam/lifters...and some weight management.... It'll be interesting to see where we both land... I may have to have my converter restalled, if cam is a tad big...time will tell...

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Last minute change...found I had a small journal crank after ordering rods. Found a large journal crank local on the cheap already prepped for a Stocker so all is well.
My first attempt at a crank scraper...if I did it wrong I'm sure I will hear about it soon enough. I made plenty of clearance with a bench/die grinder then used the metal for a template on some .030 graphite filled teflon sheet. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps35821b00.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps78f1d697.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps51e0a40f.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psb44900b0.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6c2542f0.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps473aced3.jpg |

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Interesting piece of engineering. I like the physics incorporated into the design of these things. What is the distance from the axle mount to the pivot wheel as measured in a line on the floor? I'm wondering if this will fit my 68 Mustang. Speaking of, is this for the Camaro or Mustang?
