More good news, the remaining needed parts are on the brown truck.

The next few weeks will be about updates to the package and plans to resume racing. The new package will sport a 4GC carb and move down one class to GT/TC.

And I like views not usually seen. Next pics will have valves in place.

Larry, is that a pre-wired relay board where you just plug in the switch and source wires? If so where did you get it? I have a small one that looks similar to clean up my electrical next off-season.

Electrical question: I have an MSD pill box like in your photo to trip my shift light. I want to be able to trip my light at my stage rpm and again at my shift point (currently 2800 and 5000 rpm). If I plug an MSD 2 or 3 Step into my current "pill box" will that work? I read the instructions at MSD but can't quite figure it out. It would be cheaper than a new level 2 or 3 shift light.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

Dale,

I will ponder your question and get back to you.

The relay board is part of the Digital Delay package that includes the dash switch controller that is also the dial-in display module. The dial-in showing on the switch panel is also showing on the outside mounted display board. It is a convenient package.

I will have it powered up soon and post photos.

Another relay/fuse board I use and like is "Nitrous Dave's Race Electronics" [or something close to that] He sells just the relay board to use with your switches. It is a good product and good value.

More soon.

hey Larry in order for the g meter in your racepak to work properly. it has to be mounted flat and pointed in the direction of travel. standing it up like yours is not good.

Mark, I knew that and forgot, Thanks for the reminder. Originally I had it mounted correctly but, "revised/improved" the mounting :(

I appreciate the catch and will change to "revision" three.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

Dale,

the bulbs you intend to turn on, do those bulbs have two wires [bat & ground?] Are the wires accessible?

If so, the MSD three step can apply either bat + or ground to one side of the bulb. The other bulb wire will either be connected to bat + or ground as needed.

You can experiment with the setup by using a 3000 chip to test each function.

Dragsinger 05-22-2016 04:45 PM

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

Dale,

might not be clear, of course I understand the bulbs have bat + and ground. Question, do you have access to the bulb wires [that is to say, the wires are not part of a solid state board.]

Dragsinger 05-22-2016 05:12 PM

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

about those bulbs, when you find yourself in a hole, quit digging :}

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

It's the small MSD light that requires an rpm switch. I was hoping that using a 2 or 3 step would let me activate it at 2 different rpms without trick wiring. Problem is I got all cute and moved my tach into the dash to hide the race car look. Now I can't see my stage rpm with out taking my eyes off the tree. :o. Probably just fab a bracket and get it up on the dash or cage mount it.

The wiring rework will finish this week while waiting on the cylinder head.

The wires hanging down will clear the track OK if I keep the wheels up.

I received word today {Friday June 3rd} that the new, replacement head is finished and shipped. YEA, YEA, YEA!

The Super engine will be finished and re-installed right away.

These photos show more progress with organizing the wiring.

Also, the Super 10 is on the rack ready for engine re-install.

And the XS D1600 battery I decided to install.

YEA X 10 and YEA!

The new cylinder head is scheduled to arrive tomorrow [Wed June 8th]

The engine will be finished and in the Super 10 right away.

I have my eye on a July 9th bracket race at Texas Motorplex. Plus two or three more bracket races for tuning both truck and driver.

Then Lucas D 4 race at Thunder Road [Shreveport LA] in September

Team Woodfin and the Super 10 are back on track.

We only need a few minor items added to the engine and it goes back in place.

Keep and eye on the post as we will so be returning to action.

It's alive, yea!

I sure do like the sound of a small block Super Stocker, gives me a smile. All systems look OK, no leaks, wheels turn, throttle sharp, fired right up with that good old popping idle.
.
Now to finish up some odds and ends details and give him a test. The plan is Texas Motorplex July 9th.

On my trusty tables for a double check of four link setting, pinion angle, rear center and rear square.

The rear axle is at ride height [less wheels which is a huge working and visualizing advantage] Four link is neutral, [no preload] anti-roll link disconnected.

Drivers seat has ballast equal to driver weight.

The final preload and anti-roll link adjustment will be with wheels on and driver in seat.

I have good help at the shop. They are qualified and experienced, and sometimes, well, beyond helpful.

Example, this morning we rolled the Super 10 out for a wash job. We are busy, phone going customers coming and going, then it begins to rain, truck still outside. After a while I realize the only way to finish washing is to stand out in the rain and get er done. So I am out in the rain, wash bucket and wash mitt in hand, getting wetter by the minute.

Just as the rain increased one of my most helpful mechanics hollers, "hey boss man, you will never get that truck dried, it's raining!"

We are moving our race outing forward to the next available date for a local bracket race. A few minor fine tuning items remain on the punch list and in order to make this weeks race would require a last min rush.

I am old and it is miserable HOT in Texas and I no longer do rush jobs well, especially with my personal projects.

Speaking of hot, check the Texas heat drivers fan.

Note these Doug Lee valve covers, excellent work. A good guy doing a great job. http://propan.net/

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

Team Woodfin and the Super 10 had a good outing at the Lucas D 4 race this weekend.

We had four excellent runs then while staging for first round the carb flooded out and killed the engine. There I set with pre-stage light on and engine dead, whew, not a good thing.

It re-started, blubbering, I manage to keep it running and stage, but as you could expect, late reaction and would not run the dial.

It was a very disappointing and frustrating end to a good race outing.

Yet, I am happy with the performance, 10.39 twice and 10.40 twice

It is a minor problem with an easy solution, we will race again another day :)

Woodfin 11-30-2016 11:21 PM

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

I am very pleased with the overall Super 10 package. It fits me well, I can get in and out easily, visibility is good, and chassis works well.

I like the look, the step bed is unusual, and I like being different [in a good way]

The only area that has not performed as expected is the fuel system. The fuel pressure is erratic and more than once the pressure spiked upward and caused the carb. to flood.

In talking with other racers and several vendors I bought a Product Engineering bypass regulator with jets in the return lines.

Photos tomorrow.
