Pete, thanks so much for posting all these great pics. Bagshaw always had such gorgeous cars. Zul, Grump, Dyno, Carlton, Sox and so many others were my idols back in the day.

I remember that car. It was in SSDI magazine IIRC. Will keep an eye out for the article next time I dig thru my magazines,

Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
Another great pic, I really enjoy hearing stories from back in the day about guys like Larry Peternel and Richie Zul (he parked the race car on the street in NYC) here is a great story from a member of this site..
You had to admire Larry Peternel's determination to race. The last few times I saw him, he had a GM F-body in a well used Chapparal trailer. The wheelie bars were two piece; he'd unbolt the back half so he could get the trailer door shut. Just about everytime I saw the guy race, he was absolutely a one man team. Others had crews all over the starting line, but Larry managed to get in the water, do his burnout, and stage properly all by himself. Quote:

Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
Great pictures - I did not remember that she had a PS car. I ran into Carol (think she was racing an AFC at the time) and found her to be a really warm, open person who was a pleasure to talk to.
Referring to the post upstream about the Eldorado PS car, I saw it make its final run at Gateway in St Louis. Seems like it might have been Ed Dixon driving as a hired shoe, but the crash wasn't due to anything he did/didn't do. The car sounded terrible and did not want to go more than a foot or two in a straight line. I had missed the linked thread and was unaware that it had been involved in a theft, but it the part about the hulk being found during a track remodel checks out since GIR currently runs in the opposite direction from way it was at the time of the crash. |
Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
I thought there were two of those Eldorados? I seem to recall reading somewhere about one being built for Pro Stock, and one for Super Gas. Subsequently, both cars were destroyed.

Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
I never knew of a SG car. Seems like the PS car went through a couple of paint changes at least. Crazy times then, I also remember someone building a Mercedes SL500 with separate frames for the body and the suspension.
