Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Question. What is the brand, part number of the power windows motor you used?
|
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Duke, they are Delco replacement motors for an S-10 with power windows. It is a bolt in deal, drill out the rivets attaching the manual crank hardware and bolt in the motor in its place. All the door window hardware is the same.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Duke, Delco short # 11m31 and 11m32. That number fits many GM applications from 1984 - 2000

Thank you.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
I absolutely love this truck Larry! I've really enjoyed the story behind it too.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Jon,
Thank you. It is a cool little truck, I truly appreciate the feedback and recognition this build series produced. For a number of reasons, I have not attended any Lucas races in 2017. Yet, I am doing local bracket races and doing well. The truck is a good, consistent, winning package. In the future, if the economy and extra money situation continues to improve 2018 will allow some super stock racing. |

a double check of the power window question. My above answer needs to be amended, the Delco #11A35 and 11A36 are motor and regulator assembly.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Been a while since we talked and we did finish my son's truck. With a 385, He has a best of 6.36,@ 108. 59% on the front.
Just wonder what your percentages are and the settings on the 4 link? |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
As it works out, I have the truck at my shop for some minor work before the season begins.
I do not know the weight bias but do have notes about the four-link setting and will post that soon. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Thanks, I'm an old Modified racer and am always thinking about tuning. We are going to 5.14's from the 4.86's and 31 or 32" tires and taking the 29.5's off. Trying for a little more consistency.
|
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Larry,
I will be interested as well. We messaged back and fourth a few months ago. We are doing a short bed S10 with a 6.0L for bracket racing and are doing the final assembly on the rear end. Thanks again. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
The Super 10 is built with a Chassis Engineering four-link kit #3513. You can go to the Chassis Engineering website, under "instructions" the kit is installed per those instructions at the ride height/axle height per the instructions.
The instructions also include a chart showing instant center for all possible locations. Tomorrow I will post a photo showing were the Super 10 links are located. Note; it has a 32 x 14 tire. |

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Hacksaw, how much weight was added to the rear of the truck?
I have seen some set up for bracket racing with a couple hundred pounds added. I just hate the thought of adding weight to a race car. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
I had 90 lbs inside the rear crossmember, 30 on the inside pass framerail ahead of the rear wheel and 3 10 lb flat bars above the rear. Two 16 v batts at right rear corner.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
In ref to the thoughts about weight bias. The height of the cab is a big factor in weight transfer because the center of gravity is higher than a car body. Plus, the driver sits higher than in a car.
Now that we have a 408 SBC w/aluminum heads of 700 horse the Super 10 leaves the line with a wheelie that is way up there. I have a video of the tail lights reflection off the track surface. With each outing, I am making small adjustments to keep it under control. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Larry,
I may have missed it , but curious on how much weight you had to add. Ours is not going to have that much power for the first few years. Probably only around 500 to start but we want it to be as consistent as possible in the first 60'. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
We didn't add any weight to my son's 97. 59/41 front to back. Added about 80 in the bed and didn't make any difference so we took it back out. Our 4 link is close to your setup, Larry. Yours is a little farther out and lower than his. When we put the 31" tire on, I'll have to reset everything and should ended very close to yours, then. Thanks for your responses.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Duke,
How much power are you making and what kind of 60' times? We have two cars with ladder bars that run in the mid tens to low 11's. so this 4 link deal is all new to us. Also wondering how muck preload people are running with these trucks with 4 links? Larry what are your thoughts? |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Like is posted above, I experimented with weight in the rear but it did not change the chassis action for any detectable amount so I removed it all.
In the rear of the bed is a K & R air compressor, 5 gal cell that usually has 3.5 gals, and a 16-volt battery. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
The Super 10 weighs 2760 less driver.
Aluminum head small block, fiberglass hood, gutted doors, one factory seat, aluminum custom dash. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
It has run as fast as 6.03 in present trim.
|
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Larry,
So you feel with the correct bar placement we may not need to run any weight? I have been told that 4 links work better with higher hp cars? Do you see us having problems with only being in the 500hp range. We will have the room for up to a 14X32 tire if need. I know there are a lot of people going faster then we will be with leaf springs and cal tracs and smaller tires. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
352,
you will need to experiment. There is to reason to carry extra weight if it is not needed. And about a lower powered four-link. I thank it is always OK to have a four-link no matter the power level. With your reference to Cal-Tracks, the geometry of that is very much like a four-link. The spring front attachment being the upper bar point and the Cal-Track the lower bar point where those two lines would cross. |

My son's 385 is only around 550HP. He has a best of 1.36, 60 foot and 6.36, 1/8 mile. He ran 10.22/131 in Topeka. His truck is 2850 lbs with him in it. That's with 4.86 rear and 13.5 x 29.5 tires.
The truck is 59% front and 41% rear. Only 5 gallon fuel cell and12 volt red top battery in the back of the bed. We are switching to 5.14's and 13.5/31 tires. Our local track is usually a little iffy,so just putting a little more rubber under it. Attachment 48297 |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Duke, Nice picture. I like what I am hearing on the percentage weight front to rear. I am also curious on how much pre-load is being run. I am sure a lot of people have put them on 4 corner scales.
|
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
speaking of pre-load. My experience shows that when coupled with an anti-roll bar [which I highly recommend] only a very small amount,if any, pre-load is required.
When working with chassis adjustments be sure to move in very small amounts. 1/2 flat on a four-link bar is enough to show a change. And speaking of scales [and this is personal form my experience and may not reflect the experience of others] I have experimented with scale adjustments but the car/truck will show you what it wants. The last adjustments I make on a new package before going to the track is on the chassis table with driver or driver weight in the seat. I will adjust 1/2 flat in the right upper bar[with anti-roll bar disconnected] the just take the slack out of the anti-roll bar links [turning the links in the direction to make them longer] |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Our truck was scaled before it left the shop and we made it as equal as we could, particularly the rear. Absolutely NO preload. We have coilovers at all 4 corner, so we worked hard to get as even as we could. We have an anti-roll bar and it is set neutral as is 4 link. Truck goes down track like it's on rails.
Make sure you have a good alignment on the front, too. We have 2" dropped front spindles. We have tubular upper control arms from Speedway Motors, Part # 91034393-L . They are listed for the G-body and are the 1/2" longer than stock units. They correct the camber. Use the extended upper ball joints such as Proforged 101-10021. These correct the ball joint angle so they don't pop apart. If you use these control arms you will need travel limiters also. Go to Tim McAmis' website and watch his videos several times to help understand setting up 4 link. I wouldn't use the setup he uses, unless you have about 2500HP. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Duke/Larry,
Thanks for all of the info. Larry I pm'd you my 4 link kit. Not sure if you got it. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Yes, I got it and printed out for study. Our setup is close to that. Thanks

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Wow. Nice truck, Larry! You're in D4?
I checked temp differences on a single intake with a similar opening location and saw quite a difference between temps with the headlight in and blocking the entry vs with it removed. Removed fed it just warmer than ambient air while with headlight installed was nothing but HOT air. It's been about 8 or 10 years since I tested it so I don't remember exact #'s but it was quite a noticeable difference. So much that I personally don't care how "ricer" it looks when I remove my headlight at the track in my street legal truck. |
