Gonna break in here with a slight change. Tibor Kadar drove a '77 Bird that sometimes did not qualify near the top of the list. But, he did real good with it. I've read that he almost won the national Stock championship, in 2006, finishing a very close 2nd. I've also read that the car ran a 350 Pontiac engine. The car has been mentioned in this thread. But I'll dig around & see what race results I can find.

Yes, from the pics, it appears to be the same car.

After lookin at a few Q-lists, it appears that although the times don't look that impressive, several times, the car was the highest qualified Pontiac on the list.

Well, I'm not sure which '77-'78 Bird Stocker to look at next.

Think I'll start out in the Great Northwest, with the Bill Edgeworth car. I remember that I've seen it near the top of several Q-lists. But don't think I've ever tried to do a good search.

As mentioned, the car was a nat record holder, at some point. And I know I posted that Ryan Warter drove it at Indy & won class. Also have a pic I'll post, with Ryan Warter driving the car, trying to help sell it. I assume they were good friends, & probably racing buddies, tho I don't know that. Don't know if it ever sold, or not ?

Will take a look & see what else I can find.

During the period of time covered in these 2 posts, this was an awesome car, against it's index. And I didn't post several other top 10 finishes, just because they weren't a sec under. Bill may have been holding back a little, at some races, to avoid a hit. I suppose it worked, since the last hit I see for the '77 base 400 engine was in 2003. IF that info is correct, Bill must not be responsible for it.

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers

Got another question for you Pontiac Stocker guys who were around in 2003.

According to the info on the Class Racer Info site, the last hp change for the 1977 Pontiac 400 180hp engine, in a Bird, was in 2003. It shows 283hp.

http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...4&MAKE=Pontiac

I've been under the assumption that the hp factor went UP, in Nov of 2003.

BUT, I've just cruised thru the DRC Q-lists for 2003. Most all the quick '77-'78 Birds were claiming the '78 year model. This included Holmes, Edwards, Ribeiro, Dilcher, Moyer, & maybe 1 or 2 more I'm forgetting.

The ONLY Bird I saw that ran as a '77, all season long was the Biondo Bird. And it's qualifying times were not near quick enuff to trigger any hp hits.

SO, I'm wondering if maybe the hp actually came DOWN slightly, rather than UP ?

I know of other Pontiac engines that have managed to get a decrease. So, I thought maybe this one did, too, in 2003.

Anybody know EXACTLY when the hits came, for this engine and/or whether it went up or down in Nov of 2003 ?

I see the '78 "big cam" 400 had it's last hp change in 2013. Anybody know the dates when the "hits" occurred, for this engine ?

http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...7&MAKE=Pontiac

Is there any way to find the history of hp factor changes, other than finding racers who have kept records of certain hp changes they were interested in ?

I'd be very interested in knowing when the Pontiac hits came & what car was responsible, in each case. For example: Bill Rink has posted here that he knows his '74 GTO was responsible for quite an increase in hp, for the '74 350 Ventura engine. Said that's the reason he switched over to Super Stock, with his '74 GTO.

For the '77-'78 Birds, it seems that there have been 3 main engine choices. The 170hp '77 350 Pontiac, the 180hp '77 400, and the '78 220hp 400.

The last hit for the '77 Bird 350 was in 2016.

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers

Another quick Bird that was mentioned was driven by Dave Edwards. Someone said it was the same Bird, in which Bob Michael had won the M/SA class @ Indy, in 1998.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1998#indextop

It qualified #12, with a 12.116, which was 1.034 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1998#indextop

It was a white Bird, in full T/A trim.

So, I'll look thru some DRC results, around that time period, & see what I can find.

Again, I'm not sure which '77-'78 Bird to look at next. From looking at so many Q-lists, I've seen quite a few of 'em. Some of the names are not familiar to me, at all, especially some who live in Canada.

One that shows up on lots of lists is the car I call the "Biondo Bird". It has been driven by several members of the Biondo clan. Usually not at the top of the Q-list, but quick enuff to be competitive.

6/9/01 - div 1-2 - #67 .474 under.

8/31/01 - US Nats - #113 - .813 under.

And, since this is a Pontiac thread, I'll mention that this is the race that Al Vanis won, nearly 30 years after winning the US Nats, in a '74 Ventura.

6/8/03 - div 3-2 - #43 - .909 under. Don't remember how much info I've posted about the Don Himes GP. Anyhow, this Q-list shows that he ran 1.078 under, with the big GP.

I suppose the next quickest might be low 11's, by one of the '74 GTO's, maybe, Brad Koivisto.

Little off topic from the current conversation, I dynoed the 350 in April and made some decent numbers. It's currently apart and having some updates performed, hope to have it back in the car next spring. I did end up going 10.80@123 last year with it.

Hey, 10.80, with a Stock legal Pontiac 350 ain't too shabby ! :)

This is just an opinion question. Would the '69 #48 350HO heads, with their larger valves, make much difference in power output ?

Hard to say with the bigger valve being closer to the side of the bore.

OK, the next '77 / '78 Bird I wanna look at is the Dave Ribeiro Bird.

A pic I have shows lettering saying it was a nat record holder in '98 & '99. So, it should show up on the earliest DRC files. I'll take a look & begin posting links to some of those race results.

4/17/98 - Fram Nats - #8 - .779 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1998#indextop

On this list, just below Dave is John Rodnite, in a '77 Lemans. Not familiar with that name. Don Himes was not far behind, @ # 10, in his '77 GP.

4/24/98 - Pennzoil Nats - #7 - .946 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1998#indextop

5/16/98 - Englishtown - #9 1.096 under. Carol Yacavone was #8. We'll look closer at that car, in coming posts.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1998#indextop

5/24/98 - Maple Grove - #1 - 1.103 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1998#indextop

8/15/98 - Englishtown div 1 - #7 - .940 under. Dean Ribeiro was #6, in a '77 Lemans.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1998#indextop

9/18/98 - Keystone Nats - #12 - .942 under. Paul Dilcher was #6. We'll look closer at the Dilcher Bird, soon.

3/19/99 - Gators - #12 - 1.116 under - L/SA class winner.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1999#indextop

By the way, this is a race that Lee Banister won, in his Bird. :)

5/1/99 - Pennzoil Nats - #4 - 1.254 under.

5/14/99 - Southern Nats - L/SA class winner.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1999#indextop

I find this one very interesting. Dean Ribeiro is #7, in a '77 Bird. Dave is #35, in a '78 Bird. And the Dilcher Bird is #3.

5/21/99 - Englishtown Nats - #35 - .901 under.

Looks like by late July of 2016 Dean Ribeiro was driving the Bird. Can't remember how long he raced it. I'll look it up. It was still the same color, back then, for a while. But, later he painted it what looked like a flat blue color, with decals mostly just on the back window.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2016#indextop

Don't remember seeing it on a Q-list recently. Dean has raced lots of different cars. So, I don't know even who owns the car now. Maybe Dave will see this & give us some of the details, including current status of the car.

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...68&postcount=6

The best ET I've seen that Dean turned was 12.06, which was .640 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2017#indextop

On the 2018 lists I looked at, Dean was driving Chevy powered cars. So, I'll leave up to Dave whether he wants to update us on the Bird, or not.

Paul Dilcher's name was on a lot of Q-lists I've seen lately. So, lets take a closer look.

4/24/98 - Pennzoil Nats - #18 - .819 under.

9/17/99 - Keystone Nats - #13 - 1.103 under - L/SA class winner. Pontiac also won K/SA & M/SA.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1999#indextop

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r1999#indextop

5/19/00 - Etown Super Nats - #9 - 1.015 under.

9/14/00 - Keystone Nats - #13 - 1.019 under.

5/17/02 - Super Nats - #27 - 1.013 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

6/18/04 - Super Nats - #29 - 1.016 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop

Paul's Bird is on many Q-lists, up thru 2018. Because of hp hits & index reductions, thru the years, some of the old Stocker combos get to the point where they can no longer run a sec under. For many cars, unless they can
be made quicker, it becomes hard to even run a half sec under. Some have the money to make the latest go-fast upgrades. Some don't. And, some just sell the old car & buy some other combo, that has a softer index. Or they quit racing all together. And I suppose a few switch over to bracket racing, although I'm well aware that MANY Class racers hate bracket racing & would rather quit racing, than run bracket.

I noticed that Paul made a Vegas race, back in 2013. Also saw him on a div 3 list. Don't have a clue as to how many different tracks he ran.

11/1/13 - Vegas 7-7 - #75 - .677 under

oldskool ,

Sorry , I haven't had time to respond with everything going on ???

1) My son Dean had bought Mark Yacavone's white 78 Firebird ... He then sold it to Dave Batta a couple of years later !!! I think Dave still has the car & is racing a 67-69 camaro now ..

2) I sold my Red Firebird to Dean in 2015 , when I bought Bob Michael's car
(77 maroon Leman's ) Which was Johnny Rodnite's old car !!! Bob, did the motor & painted the car which was White before ..

I have a bunch of National Records ( NHRA + IHRA ) , Class Wins and Q- sheets to send you in the next couple weeks !!!

Thanks, again for all your Pontiac support & be Safe ..

later, Dave

A BIG THANKS for all the info Dave !

For any pics or copies of nat record certificates, etc, that you wanna send me, it is probably more convenient to do it by Email

Same goes for any of you other guys who don't wanna take time to post on this thread. You can all send me your Pontiac info by Email. I'll sort it all out & post some of it on this or the Pontiac SS thread.

Email: speedbarn455@gmail.com

After seeing that Rodnite name, I remembered that it was on some of the early DRC Q-lists. So, I looked up some of 'em. I found this one very interesting. On the list, is the Yacavone Bird & your Bird, the Rodnite '77 Lemans & Dean driving a '77 Lemans, & also Don Himes & Bill Groton, driving '77 GP's -- a pair of each.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=40284

So, (1) what's the history of the '77 Lemans that Dean was driving ?

(2) What happened to the Bill Groton GP ?

(3) #96 is Larry Munk, driving a V/SA '78 Lemans. So, did that car have a Pontiac 301, maybe a 2-barrel ? Looks like it could have had a Buick V6 or a 305 Chevy.

Chad Smith bought the Paul Dilcher Bird, in 2018, which has probably already been mentioned here. He got it down into the 11.70's last year, at this race.

6/7/19 - div 1-2 - #71 - .568 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2019#indextop

Ran 11.514 @ the Dutch Classic.

"...1037 Chad Smith...I/SA...#78 11.514..."

So far this year, there have been 3 div 1 races. The car has not shown up on any of the Q-lists. Don't know what Chad's plans for the car are. A 400 powered '77 Bird is not the best choice for a competitive Pontiac powered Stocker, in 2020. I suppose a '77 350 powered Bird would be better. And even a '78 400 powered Bird should be a little better. But, at 260hp, any '77 body with a 400, EXCEPT a Bird, would probably be a MUCH better choice. But, as always, if you can run your index or quicker & avoid heads-up runs, you have a chance to win the race.

Dean sold it to Kyle Riley, who had a towing accident on the way home .Kyle re-bodied the car and won a race or two with it..I think you might have missed it.
The Stevenson family then had it for years, and now the Larsen family has it.

(3) Larry's car went to Billy and Don..As a 79, it is being raced by Billy , as we speak.

Larry ran the 231 Buick , as V/SA is 6 or 4 cylinder only.

Wow ! That post is FULL of info ! Thanks !

I remember reading that Kyle Riley had a towing accident & did a re-body. But, I'd thought he raced it, for a while, with blue paint & "Who's Next" on the door.

In my mind, I thought the blue car was the one in the wreck. So, I thought the car with the checkered flag treatment was the re-body. So, the re-body had at least 3 different owners. Don't know if it now belongs to Wayne Larsen, or if it still belongs to Jack. Anyhow, Wayne has been driving it this year.

But, apparently, I've never even seen a pic of the '77 body that Dean had. And, who raced the car before Dean had it ?

While on the subject of '77 Lemans, what's the history of the one that Al Vanis raced ? Al won a 2003 nat event with it, nearly 30 years after he won the US Nats, in '74, in a '74 Ventura. Is this another '77 Lemans that has been passed along to several different owners ? It appears to have had Rodnite on the doors, at that '03 race. I actually found a Q-list where Al was driving the Lemans & John Rodnite was driving a Mopar. At some later races, John is shown as the driver. So, from that, I'll assume that Rodnite owned the car & Al drove it, sometimes. If this is not correct, somebody please post the correct info about this car & drivers.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

https://autoimagery.photoshelter.com...Zwm7A--&GI_ID=

And, to show how very little I really know about class racing, I had no idea that V/SA is for 4 & 6 cylinder only cars. :o I assumed that any small, low power V8, in a heavy enuff body could run the lowest classes.

Also had no idea that '78 car is the '79 Himes/Nees 301 Lemans.

Turns out that there have been a lot fewer Pontiac Stockers than I had originally thought. It's just that many of the same cars kept showing up with different drivers.

While searching for Al Vanis, I found a list with Al driving a '68 Bird Stocker.

So, anybody know who that bird belonged to and/or any of the car's history, either before or after Al Drove it ?

8/14/08 - Toyo Nats - #79

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=165827

Adam Strang was already driving his '68 Bird. Todd Hoven ran a '72 GTO, in '08. So, was this the Truman Fields Bird that Todd ended up with ?

Hey, it's just a guess, but there have just not been that many '68 Bird Stockers, in div 1, in recent years.

So, who has an ID on the '68 Bird Al was driving ?

Todd may have mentioned this, and I just forgot. Can't remember everything. :o

I need some help from you guys, with an ID on this car.

It was #5 qualifier at the last div 7 race of 2019, at Vegas. The driver is listed as Steve Glenn. The car is listed as a '78 Bird, running H/SA.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Apparently that was the only race the Bird made, that is listed on DRC.

Here's a video of some qualifying from that race. On my laptop, this Bird runs somewhere just after the 28:35 mark. Video info says it has a 400 Pontiac engine. It is blue, but has a white hood. Because it's blue & is from the Northwest, I'm thinkin it may be the former Bill Edgeworth car. Does anybody here have a positive ID on this car ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08JnZVHx-dA

The 2nd pic below was taken when Ryan Warter was driving the Edgeworth car at a race, after Bill had passed. Looks like the same wheels that were on the car in the 1st pic. I know lots of cars probably run those wheels. But, it's just another reason I think these 2 pics are of the same car.

I purposely saved this car for last. It's what I call the "Yacavone/Batta Bird".

As a Yacavone car, I only found it on DRC, at a couple of races. It's up to Mark if he wants to add anything more about the car or it's race results than he's already provided.

3/7/98 - Gators - #20 - 1.000 under.

5/16/98 - Englishtown Mopar Nats - #8 - 1.100 under - L/SA winner.

I know I've probably mentioned this already. But I just can't help myself. I MUST mention it again. Right below Carol's name are 4 names of other drivers that won their class, in Pontiac powered cars. So, that's L/SA, M/SA. N/SA, O/SA, & P/SA class wins for Pontiac ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=40283

Don't know exactly when Dave Batta began racing it. A DRC search seems to show that 2001 may have been the 1st year. If that's not correct, somebody can post the correct info. He ran most of the div 3 races.

Oldskool , Update on a few things ???

I knew Mike Moyer when he lived in Va, and ran VMP & Richmond Drag-way ?Mike was a great guy & loved racing . His Firebird is a Olds - powered, I think it was a 403 ci ? It ran 70-80 under the index , I think Mike moved away when I sold my firebird to Dean .. Glad to see he's still racing , looks like he had the car painted ..

Al Vanis bought my car from Johnny Rodnite and Won two races in a row !!
He was a very- good driver and won a few more races , before he traded 77 Lemans to Bob Michael' for a 77 Firebird S/S .. Then Bob fixed it all (engine + Paint...Then I bought it from Bob 4-5 yrs. ago !! (lost the good engine and built
another one !!!

* Dean Ribeiro , had found a mint White 1977 Grand Lemans ( white interior+ buckets ) Had it for about 6 mos. and wanted to make it into a racecar ???

'79 was the last year that a 400 engine came in a Bird. And it came ONLY with a 4-speed manual trans. So, I've never seen or even heard of a '79 400 powered Bird Stocker. If anybody here knows of one, please post that info.

http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...2&MAKE=Pontiac

I did see a '79 Bird Stocker listed on several Q-lists. But, it had an auto trans. So, it was probably 403 Olds powered.

http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...0&MAKE=Pontiac

Therefore, the only later Pontiac powered 2nd gen Bird Stockers I know of are 301T powered. The 301 non-turbo engine was available in some of these cars. IIRC, BIlly Nees said one of these might make a decent Stocker.

Anyhow, right now, I only remember 3 names connected to the 301T Stockers -- Neil Smedley, Chris Denton, & Rick Unterseh. I'm sure some of you guys know of others. Anyone with info about any others are encouraged to post your info.

Let's kick it off with Neil Smedley.

The number 5 car was listed as a '78 Bird, driven by Steve Glenn. Anybody have any info on this Bird ? Rick U said they'd just got it running. It was listed with a 400. Was blue, with a white hood. He was told that he could run it that way once, but would have to paint it before allowed to race again. Since it was blue, & in the Northwest, my 1st guess is that it is the former Bill Edgeworth Bird. Who knows, for sure ?

Rick is still running mid 12's, this year. That was good enuff for #41 at this race.

I assume these turbo cars will run quicker, as you increase the boost. But, considering the weak nature of the 301 bottom end, running less boost is probably a good idea.

Hey Dave, THANKS once again for the info !

Real sorry to hear about the Olds power in the Moyer car. Only Olds powered '78 Bird Stocker I've ever heard of.

http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...px?ENGINE=2859

The '78 Bird could also use a Chevy 350.

http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...spx?ENGINE=313

I edited that post, and mentioned instead a '78 400 powered Bird which I'd forgotten about. Only noticed it at one race, the div 7-7 race last year. It was driven by Steve Glenn, from WA. At the time, it was blue. with a white hood. I'm thinkin it may be the former Bill Edgeworth Bird. Would appreciate anyone who can help ID the car.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2019#indextop

I may have made a similar mistake with other Pontiacs which were available with non-Pontiac power options.

This is especially tuff with the GT Super Stock cars, since most any GM V8 is OK.

Because of my racing experiences, it became one of my pet peeves to see a Chevy engine in a Pontiac body that came with a Pontiac engine. So, even to this day, I only wanna talk about cars with a real Pontiac V8 in 'em.

I realize that many, if not MOST racers don't share my brand preference deal. But, I'm too old to change, now. So, ya'll will just have to excuse me, OK ? :)

PS: I don't know this, for a fact. But I ASSUME that if I were to run a 1st gen Camaro in a GT class, using a Pontiac engine for power, there would be quite a few die-hard Chevy guys who would frown on it.

But, since I'm a Pontiac guy, I think it's great that some of the Cobalts are now 428 Pontiac powered ! :D

One of those Cobalts has dipped into the 8's. 2 have won class at Indy.

I've probably already asked this question. But, once again, I can't remember the answer. :o

And, I suppose this site has one of the worst search functions I've seen.

There was a '68 Bird, which ran back in the late '90's & early 2000's. Sometimes the driver is listed as Jack Treola, sometimes as James Treola. Both names are listed as being from WV. Sometimes the # was 9049. Sometimes it was 3049.

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers

Tried to edit my last post. But when I hit "Save", instead of adding the edit to the existing post, it made a completely new post, below the one I was editing.

The new post included the 1st sentence from my last post, then my edit meant for the previous post, then the last several sentences of the previous post. None of the DRC info was included.

I suppose that is one of the strangest things that has happened to me, posting on a forum.

While on the subject of site problems, is there some way to refine a search, in order to make it even reasonably usable ? For example, is there some way to make the search function look for a person's full name. Example: John Smith. Rather than showing every time the word John is used plus every time the word Smith is used, you could search only for the times the 2 words are used together ?

As mentioned, of all the car forums on which I've done a search, this search function is probably the worst. Or, maybe I just don't know how to properly do a search, here. If there is any help, to make the search function work better, somebody please tell me how. Thanks ! :)

Once again, I MAY have posted this info. Don't remember.

The Knafel 1970 Judge ran in AHRA. It had 2-FA on the window. I thought that was a SS class. But, as the 5th pic below states, the car was the AHRA Stock national champ.

Was also an AHRA nat record holder that year, & won class at the AHRA Pro-Am nats. As far as I know, we never had an AHRA track in our area. So, I never knew the rules differences.

But, apparently this car ran strong under the AHRA Stock rules.

Jack and Bill were a couple of really nice fellows, who I believe, won the Div. 3 championship in the mid- 90's .I haven't heard anything lately about them or the car.

I don't recall if you covered Ron Prince's 68 Bird, which stays pretty close to the Brainerd area.It has a Line engine, I believe.

"...I don't recall if you covered Ron Prince's 68 Bird, which stays pretty close to the Brainerd area.It has a Line engine..."

I probably mentioned it. But may have not posted many race results for the car. I suppose the reason for that may have been that it did not post any really big qualifying numbers, or show up in the finals of lots of races, like some of the other cars mentioned here.

For SOME driver names, the DRC search function works real good. For some, not very good. And for some, not good at all.

Ron Prince's '68 shows up on DRC in 1998. So, I don't know when he started racing it.

Saw this today. Don't remember ever reading it before, tho I may have.

"...Sadly Chuck White passed away in 1976. Ken & Art both gave up racing at that time but Bill Kissinger continued racing this T-37 until 1979. Bill then raced a RA IV powered '70 Trans Am until the mid 80's..."

This was in an article about a Pontiac that the White bros raced.

http://www.tarheeltigers.org/1971-t-...%20Brothers%20

So, does anybody here know Bill Kissinger or anything about the the "...RA IV powered '70 Trans Am..." that he raced ?

Prior to this, the only '70 RAIV Bird Stocker I'd ever heard of was the one Scott Burton built.

Would love to have pics & info for this Bill Kissinger '70 RAIV T/A.

At the Beech Bend div 3 race, 2 of the 10 sec Bird Stockers qualified #17 & #18. They were driven by Chris Stephenson & Julie Biermann.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Need to ask a question here. On that list, #72 is Travis Buth, listed driving a '70 GTO. The only '70 GTO Stocker I know of has been driven mostly by Todd Kuhn & Allen Hollingsworth. So, is this the same car ? And, who actually owns this car ?

Just trying to get all the facts straight.

Just discovered this. Don't think it's been included in this thread. But, if so, once again I'll stand corrected.

I thought the only '74 GTO Stocker in div 5 was the one that Brad Koivisto drives. But, this Q-list from last year's Lucas Oil Nats also shows a '74 GTO which is driven by Denny Nelson. Brad's '74 GTO is on the same list & the 2 cars are running different classes.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2019#indextop

What triggered me searching for this was that while searching a Pontiac forum for something else, I ran across this link to a Class Racer thread, which mentions several '74 GTO's.

http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...t=46501&page=4

The original owner of the car Denny Nelson has, said he bought the car new, raced it 'til '92, then sold it to Larry Maxwell. It was the car I covered named "Git-Go".

I thought the thread was very interesting, since it mentioned several '74 GTO's.

While searching for something else, I just ran across this statement. If I've already posted it, just forgive & move on. :)

"...Special ordered by Weidner Pontiac in Mansfield, Ohio and campaigned by the dealership owner’s son, Pete Weidner Jr. in NHRA’s B/Stock Automatic class during the 1968 drag racing season. It was raced for only one season..."

I've noticed that since they moved these Pontiac threads to the Nostalgia section, I get very few answers to any questions. For most questions, it's total crickets. :(

It's like very few guys ever even look in this section. Maybe the powers that be got tired of seeing these Pontiac threads keep popping back to the top, in the Stock/SS section.

Oh well, I enjoyed lookin up all the info & learned a LOT I didn't know, from guys who actually saw these old Pontiacs race, & from some who actually raced 'em.

So, to all who have contributed to these Pontiac threads, THANKS ! I really appreciate it ! :)

The Biondo '77-'78 Firebird Stocker has been around for quite a few years now. I know for sure that Peter & Sal both drove it some. Don't have a clue how many different drivers the car has had.

But, this past weekend, Dylan Biondo was the driver. He had a pretty good weekend. He was R/U in the 2nd chance race, & on Sunday, he won the bounty for eliminating Saturday's race winner.

Maybe Dylan will be the next Biondo driving star.

Also noticed that "Hatari!" is on the Bird. So, I assume that Phil Monteith had a hand with the engine in the car.

Some videos were posted in the Stock/SS section. They feature mostly Ford, Mopar & Chevy. BUT, I'm glad I scanned 'em. There are some Pontiac Stockers, which I don't think I've seen in action.

This 1st one is from the Spring Vegas race, in 2002. The 1st pair of cars on it includes the Mulry/Aceves '74 Formula, with Bob Mulry driving. As I've mentioned, this car was a record holder in 3 different classes. It was #1 qualifier at lots of races, & ran more than 1.5 sec under, at several races.

At about the 7:35 point, there is a black '67 Bird. It was driven by Rod Keeney. IIRC, this is the same car that Randi Lyn Shipp has been driving, for several years now.

This 2nd video is from that same race. @ about the 2:55 point is Larry Maxwell driving his '72 Formy. @ about the 3:57 point is Rod Keeney's '67 Bird again. @ about 14:06 is Larry Maxwell again.

This 3rd video is from the 2003 Summit Nats. @ the 1:56 point is Rod Keeney again.

Here's the DRC Q-list from that race. There were several Pontiacs on the list.

Here's one from the 2001 Summit Nats. @ the 10:34 point is Scott Burton blasting off, in his early 2nd gen Bird. He ran this car as several different year models. The last, of course, was a 1970, which became the quickest Pontiac powered Stocker, ever.
