Can I ask what gauge you used to fab up your seat brackets?

David, They're just the mounts you buy from Kirkey. I believe they're 3/16.

Todd & Autumn,

RE: weeping seal on fuel tank bulkhead fitting

You might try a Stat-O-Seal instead the nylon or delrin type that you have been using. The SOS uses a built in neoprene (butyl - N) oring to a hardened steel washer. That is the same as required on AN bulkhead fittings. A bit pricey but very effective. Hope that helps.

Best to you both for your fun project.

I think the hose itself is leaking from when it was assembled, maybe I pinched something in there.

As with every week, my expectations of advancement are trampled by business as usual. BUT, as with every weekend, time is of the car variety... and this weekend we've enlisted a little help, so we hope to see great progress. Couple parts we we're waiting on didn't show up, but we did get the rest of our fasteners for weight bars, our Calvert weight box is here, new windshield came in, new fuel fitting to replace the leaker and a few nuts and bolts. I'll update progress throught the weekend.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Saturday is in the books. As mentioned we had some help today because we were working with glass. Takes forever to do stuff when theres a learning curve, made a couple mistakes, but we got it. There is a 2lb difference between the factory glass at 23lb. and the replacement at 21lb. Also worked on a battery hold down, glass trim, headlight buckets, grill and parking lights. More tomorrow.

Worked on the car a good bit today. Got a fuse so I could check the headlights, all good. Messed up on the templates for the rear firewall so had to start fresh with the upper panels, made some headway on that (Yes I know... I need Cleco tools). Checking to see what we have to do to get both thr Jr Dragster and the Nova in the trailer. More tomorrow...

Very nice build. Very clean. If i may ask, what are the bars behind the fuel cell with the caps on them?

Worked on the rear firewall tonight, along with a battery hold down, weight tank, pass seat, sill plates and some other misc stuff. Coated and threw the old valve covers on for now, Autumn has some valve cover ideas but we need to work out some kinks before we order them.

Very clean! What kind of finish is that on the radiator cover and sill plates? Looks very much like powder coat.

Just an observation but have you thought about making the rear brace more triangulated due to the distance the shoulder bolts are away from the cross bar, looks like the upper body could rotate if something unfortunate happened,

..also noticed, with the seat forward, it looks like the door bar is no longer between the elbow and shoulder? (Maybe it's just the camera angle).

Nice work though.

Just saw the car very nice work. love watching the build. your daughter autumn and you have a very nice ride there. it was nice seeing her too. I think you can take the tape off the roll cage now. Lol and I see why the seat needs to be so far forward, boy she is a tiny thing! good luck and I wish you guys were able to run it this weekend, sure would like to have seen it run.

Thank you Keith! She was so excited today she drove straight to Jim Marshall and Terry Nagel's pit to see them, We are glad to have it at the track today even if only to have it checked by the tech crew. Just didn't think our best option was to go making full passes right off the bat. A few more things to do but WOW what a ride. I can't thank everyone enough, more on that later.

It is in fact a race-able piece, however, she needs a pad added to the roll cage bar to the left of her head, rear firewall needs sealed and they were concerned with the seat being so high we may need to add more bracing at the top.

Tech thought along these lines, more so in the event of a backward crash, say into the wall, the top of the seat would need more support.

Rockingham was our last JD race, it's been a great 10 year run with many many great memories, we'll miss it dearly (not so much a few of the parents:D) but the ending was pretty sweet, winning the championship in the semis and the race with a great final round against an impressive racing family (the Wilsons).

Congrats on the win, and for building an outstanding race car with that Nova. It was wise to take it to the track and have the tech team look at it before trying to enter it in competition. Also, why is it with kids and sports,be it soccer, basketball,Little League baseball or junior diggers, the kids are great, but the adults can't seem to stay in their place? I guess bad sportsmanship isn't instinctive, it's taught. Have a great year coming up !!

Great starting line photo looks like she's leaving on the last yellow too--- look at the wrinkle in the right slick---Great job on the build too now all we need is some more pix of the finished product ---after its been all put together---any problems with tech and if so what was "wrong"--FED 387

Thank you Greg. Some parents are terrible, I try to stay out of the drama and take the high road. I heard last weekend the #1 kid in points had 3 competitors taking dives, after an obvious one 1st round the D2 crew got wind and stopped it which led to our matchup with them second round. The kids don't come up with that on their own for sure.

We need a pad on the cage bar next to her head, rear firewall isn't sealed nearly enough, a brace near the top of the seat and the brakes need a pump to get good pedal so they need re-bled. We've rented the track Nov. 25th so I'll get some more pictures and maybe a video while we're there, That gives us a few weeks to get some stuff lined out and to get some new tires put on.
Meanwhile here it is outside after the first bath.

Yes, we got two GPs for making it through tech.
