Ken Shawver was driving a Olds cutlass when he won the Nationals , I think it is still owned By Greg Fulk from Ohio.

I just ASSUMED that maybe he was driving the T-37, since I know he did race it, then later ran a '78 T/A for many years. But, I realize that lots of guys drive more than one brand of drag car. I discovered that long time Pontiac racer, Jack Mullins, did pretty good with an old, Olds, before he was famous for his big Pontiac wagon. When you look up old race results, many times all you get is the driver's name. That makes it pretty tuff to know EXACTLY what they were driving at that particular race. Another problem I've run into is with the 2nd gen Birds, especially '77 & '78 models. A '78 I'd mentioned turned out to be 403 Olds powered. And recently, a '77 that had been running Pontiac power for a long time was switched over to sbc power. What's really tuff is figuring out what engine a GT SS car has. Just last year, I discovered a couple that had Pontiac power, which I was not aware of. |

Factor Finder Info !
A guy with a '72 FF, sent me this Pontiac info. It is not what I was expecting. MOST of the popular engines commonly used for racing were not mentioned. I Emailed him some questions, like, did the book say that all engines not mentioned would use factory hp rating ? And, were there any numbers for '66, '67, & '68 Pontiac engines ? Do any of you guys have the hp factor info which NHRA published in the mid '70's. Would also like to get the factors for the popular Pontiac engines which NHRA published around 1980. That would have given NHRA a few years to evaluate the Pontiac combos that were running quick. There MUST have been certain Pontiac combos which got hits. That's all I'm trying to find out. (1) Which Pontiac combos got hit ? (2) Exactly WHEN did they get hit ? (3) What was the old factor & the new one ? These seem like simple questions. But apparently the answers are EXTREMELY hard to get. It sometimes seems that all this old info has just disappeared. Or maybe it does exist, but it would take the right person having access to it, in order to publish it on a forum, or somewhere else on the net. It's just a bit frustrating sometimes when so much info is available these days but some of this old info doesn't seem to exist. So, one more time. Does anybody reading this have access to NHRA hp factors, which they published in any or all the years from '75-'80 ??? I you don't, do you know someone who does, that would be willing to look up some factors for me ??? |

OK, he turned the page & found this. At the top of the page, it's labeled Tempest. But the numbers, like 345 for example, are Firebird numbers.
So, I asked him to go back & see if maybe there is a page labeled Firebird. If so, maybe the A-body factors are listed there. What he sent before was only for big Pontiacs. |
Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
Thanks. I missed that first picture. But this second one is much more useful.

Dave Reuland just posted this info.
http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...3&postcount=45 So, that means that the '73 GTO that Mick Leiferman raced was indeed SD455 powered, but did not come from the factory that way. |

Just found this one.
It's a '74 T/A, which is said to have had 455SD power, running F/SA, @ this '79 Canadian Molson Grandnational race. I suppose it's the only Pontiac Stocker I've ever seen with a big #1 on the door. |

Can't remember if I've asked this question, or not.
If I have, I don't remember the answer. I have this picture labeled " '61 Unknown". Can some of you older guys tell me this guy's name ? |

Would like to know where that "Class Champion" race took place, which is mentioned on the car in pic #3. ? Have read that an M/T Tempest won A/FX @ Pomona in '63. If a Tempest also won A/FX @ Indy, I'd like to know about it. And, if that winning car was the one in your pic #3, I'd like to know that. |

Here's a couple of pics that were just posted, of a Bird I've never seen.
Has Ridge Runner Auto Centers on the door. Looks to be a '74 T/A, which was running E/SA. I assume that means it was SD455 powered. On the rear windshield is written: "Car in Tow". I assume that means they pulled it to & from the track with a tow bar. Been there & done that. |

Div 4 Race in Belle Rose, LA
In Stock, Devon Dioguardi was #21 in the Mission Garage '74 SD455 T/A. Todd Kuhn was #49. Todd is listed driving a '71 GTO. I think that's a misprint. He's been driving a '70 GTO for quite a few years. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop |

According to NHRA Live Timing, in the 1st race of the doubleheader, Brad Burton was the Stock Elim winner ! :) Cut a .005 light & ran 10.734 on a 10.73 dial. That's some pretty good final round driving. https://www.nhra.com/results/2022/lu...ock-eliminator He also won the 2nd race, to complete the doubleheader sweep ! :) https://www.nhra.com/results/2022/lu...05/live-timing |

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers
Need some help with this one.
On a FB site I'm trying to find out what was the quickest legal 1969 GTO NHRA Stock Elim car, ever. Found a '70 nat record list showing that the "Nemesis" Judge held the E/SA record in the 11.90's. So, does anybody here have proof of one that ran quicker ? If so, please post all the info you have for the car. Also, I'm trying to find out what was the last quick legal '69 GTO NHRA Stocker to be on active racing duty ? Nowadays, the '69 has a good NHRA hp factor for the 350hp 400 engine, @ 325. But, for many years prior to the reduction, the '69 GTO engine factors were too high for the combo to be competitive. Therefore, I haven't run across a single '69 GTO Stocker that was still competitive, after the early '70's. So, who remembers a competitive '69 GTO Stocker, that was still active in the '80's ? How 'bout the late '70's ? Would appreciate all the help I can get on this ! :) |

I had concluded that Fields Hard Times started out running RA2 but then ran as a RA1 W/P=9.17. This picture seems to confirm he made that change in 1972, probably because the RA2 at W/P=8.57 was too hot even for 1972's A/S=9.00 class. Then the car continued to win as a RA1 car. Was hoping Oldskool would chime in but I guess that will be later and elsewhere. |
