I agree with John, I think the 24 volt stuff is a better technology. But being a bit of a cheapskate, I use a red top optima and I buy a new one each year, I also use a powermasters best (Biggest) starter and an east coast electric 70 amp alternator. My set up is a fuel injected 14:1, 540 and it cranks over fairly easy but it can be hard to start and we do crank it about twice as much as of carbureted competitors need to. I also have heard some negative comments about the Optima batteries but to date I haven't had any problems. Hope this helps

That 24 volt does sound like a good idea. The only problem with my car, being a 240" wheelbase, I dont have enough room for two in the nose. I would have to make a plate behind the front wheels for the second one, I might look into that this winter if i still have a problem.

What do you all think about the braile batteries. They are the only company that makes them small enough besides the Rocks, and the specs on there big daddy 12 volt looks more jucier than the Rock that I have now... Have anyone of you tried bothe the Rock or the Braile??

Some of my friends /competitors run two batteries in front of their feet so if you install a 1/4 aluminum plate up there you could probably bolt them down I think bolting one in front and one in back sounds problematic and I have never seen someone mount two behind the rear axel but with 80-100 pounds of weight back there I'll bet it does cool wheelies:D

I have no experience with Rock or Braile batteries but I have seen a 12V fan smoke when we hooked up the 16 volt battery charger to my friends car and I notced that when the 16 volt sttuff goes dead it seems to do it all at once.
So if your driving the car back I think an alternator is a good way to keep everything happy including your MSD box.

Swapped to the Braille B3121... What a world of difference. Cranks over so much better! Nothing against Rock, but the Braille is 10 pounds lighter aswell.

What ever battery/starter combo you chose, ALWAYS run a separate ground wire from the battery directly to the block, and use star lock washers for a good connection. I have used a red top for over two years with the same flexplate. Remember, grounding, grounding, ground..................

I have the same Optima red in my stocker for 3 years.Granted I don't crank 950CI and 20:1 comp. but
my battery is fine.
I also crank the engine at 40 Deg locked dist. with the ignition off and I put the battery on a rotating
basis in my trailer with a marine battery that i've had for 6 years on a Battery Tender.Maybe that might help?
