Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
Tell you my story first then.
About 20 years when the Hoosiers first came out, I tried a pair on my 400 4 speed Firebird .Can't remember why I did it when I did ,but it was the first round of a Divisional. They hooked real well .In fact so good , I split the pinion flange in half right on the line. Of course the red light was on in the other lane, but I couldn't come back for 2nd round. A few months later at Bowling Green before Indy , I was having trouble with initial hook up. I borrowed the same tires again, wanting to see what it would pick up on the other end. It left fine but then started bouncing up and down thru low and most of second. I was determined to run it thru the lights so I didn't lift .Right before the 2-3 shift it jumped right out of gear. I went back to the pits, returned the tires, and never again tried radials on a stick shift. |
Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
The 4 Cylinder deal could work too. Years ago my buddy Pat Henneberry bought a 1985 Camaro that came with a 151 "Iron Duke" Pontiac w the fuel injection. I looked it would fall into W/S with 24.36 factor and HP NHRA rated 115. We disconnected the exhaust took it to Island Dragway just to see. If i remember it ran 18.60 than we swapped out to a smaller diameter tire and picked up 3 tenths to a 18.30 This was totally stock with an automatic. That 200R4 i think. I would like to believe those were 17's but they were probaly 18's . Hey , he still has car. That motor has a hydraulic roller cam too! Small block 5.70 rod. 16.40 index.

Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
I looked it seems like that 4 Cylinder Camaro was a one year only deal in 1985. Jeez pretty rare. I know he still has all the pieces.
HMM One racecar at a time. Help. Will Lamprecht I/SA 65 Impala in progress. 1985 Camaro W/S in future? |
Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
For that 7.5" rear what is the lowest gear you can get? 4:56 Probaly need more gear for a stick shift though. Wheels are turning. I know he still has motor plus might have had machine work done on block. He just built a Comp car B/SR he is busy with though.

Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
Came across this Saginaw 4 Speed with 2 rings on 3.11 2.20 1.47 1.00 gears. OK what about that 2.5 Iron Duke TBI with these gears plus how about a 8.2 10 Bolt with 5:13 or 5:38.
This will go into that 85 Camaro. How much power could this engine make, RPM's ect. W/S Stick "Dime Rocket" http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-SAGINAW-4...85fd35&vxp=mtr |
Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
OK found out a 3 ring Saginaw came with 3.50 First! Maybe that would work with a 4:56 mini spool 7.5 rear. Small Diameter tire.
Will Lamprecht Have other things too do but this is fun. |
Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
Saginaw 3 Speed! Why not? Cheaper lighter rotational weight of 4 Speed. I have one somewhere.
3 Lines 3.50 1.89 1.00 |
Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
The iron duke 4 cylinder was also available in the Camaro from 1982 to 1984 also. Back in '89 I bought a '82 Camaro with a 4 cylinder 4 speed. I had a buddy that had a '83 4 cylinder 4 speed that ran 18.60's bone stock. My little V6 automatic that came in the Camaro that I race now wouldn't even go that quick bone stock.

Re: V/S Stick "Dime Rocket"
Thanks for posting this. I will probably resurrect my thread on my 67 El Camino. I still have it, just haven't had any extra money to spend on it.
I've been looking for a 4 cylinder Camaro or Firebird for a while, too. |
