Re: Project update
No progress to speak of on the stocker this time, but I had to post this pic to show you guys my new (used) lift! It's going to make assembly of the Nova REALLY nice.

Re: Project update
WOW! I'd say there is some progress! The Nova almost looks like a Camaro now! Jim

Re: Project update
Nice work, and very nice car.
Novas are a clean looking and done right, as you are doing make sweet racers. We gotta get one of those lifts too. After working on our car in a friends shop with a lift, we really feel handicapped now that we are back in our shop. Good job, keep the progress reports coming David The New Hemi Guy |
Re: Project update
Paul,
Hook a brother up....where did you come up with that? Clark |
Re: Project update
Clark - My buddy bought it used a few years ago from Danielson Equipment...now he's moving and doesn't have room at the new place, so I took it off his hands for him...cuz that's just the type of guy I am.

Re: Project update

Attachment 3057 When you get to this point in your project all the work starts to make sense. 2 1/2 years in the process and still love these little shoe-boxes. |

I finally made a little progress on the Nova so figured it was time for another installment here....
Over Thanksgiving I retrieved the car from my buddy's shop with no more done on it than in the last pics I posted. I've talked with Dave Cech and reserved my spot in line with him to do the body and paint...should be taking it to him in the next couple weeks. I got a great deal on a clutch and flywheel here on Classracer, and bought a Quicktime bellhousing from Tim at the Car Shop. I thought now would be as good a time as any to drop the motor in for a test fit and make sure everything was going to line up right, so that's what I did today......... |
Re: Project update
Your project looks great, very well done. It will be cool to see the finished product.

I lost my innocence tonight - I've been messing with cars for over 20 years now, but up until a couple hours ago had never installed a manual transmission! Good thing that Jerico is light! I should've asked Santa for a tranny jack...I'm sore in places I didn't know existed. |
Re: Project update

One more detail I thought I'd post about - the crossmember. The Jerico is around 3/4" thicker than a PG from the pad where the mount attaches, to the center of the output shaft. After wasting a bunch of time trying to design a thinner mount, I decided to just modify the crossmember. I cut out the piece in the center that the mount bolts to, lowered it down into the crossmember, and welded it back in. Stock rubber mount, bickety-bam! Next up....giant hole in the floor for the shifter.

Re: Project update
Wow, time flies! Another year later, and I'm ready for another update. I went out to Dave Cech's shop yesterday to snap some pics:

We had a setback, as I finally decided to throw in the towel and have Dave put new quarters on it. The ones I did myself would've taken more work to straighten out than just replacing them did. Now it will be right...if we had left the other ones on there, I would've always been afraid of chunks of filler coming off during a hard launch! Hopefully I'll have more to come very soon... |
Re: Project update
Very nice - looking great!

Re: Project update

Re: Project update
Paul if you had to replace your front fenders who did you get them from? I've heard some fit right and some don't. Ed

Re: Project update
Looks great Paul. Keep the pics coming.
Ed, talk to Nightshade on Steve's site. He can line you up on fenders. I found GM originals for mine. I think he recommends AMD for aftermarket panels if you are not looking for NOS or GM used. I have bought a few things from him and the quality and price have been better than others. FWIW |

Re: Project update
Car look's great ,but where does it say you can use that rear end cover.as it not stock and also not in NHRA Accepted Products list. clearly state that it has a performance advantage.
High tensile aluminum alloy Eliminates case distortion Controls unwanted gear deflection Provides additional clearance for low gear ratios Allows aftermarket main caps and main cap stud kit installation Increases fluid capacity Reduces operating temperatures Correct mounting fasteners included Step-by-step instructions for a simple bolt-on installation Quote:

Re: Project update
I hope you're joking....if not, you haven't seen underneath very many stockers these days! As for the rulebook, it doesn't say anything about differential covers the last I looked.
|
Re: Project update
The brace and cover really is a good way to keep a stick car from bending axle tubes.
They aren`t anything controversial in the stocker ranks for sure. We bent the left tube on our Nova when we first ran it. We put the brace kit on after straightening it and it is still good 10 years later! Paul the car looks great! |
Re: Project update
Great job, the joy of 2nd gen Novas! What size tire did you end up on the back?
