Re: any pictures of stock/superstock racing teams from the 7
Hey Mark!
The car looks GREAT! Now it really needs a set of Chrome Cragers or some Torque Thrusts, at least for show off duty! Keep up the good work. Chris Barnes Wagons of Steel Stock 6621 |
Re: any pictures of stock/superstock racing teams from the 7
I have a question for you old school Mopar guys out there. On page 4 of this thread is a photo of Al Corda's C/SA '64 Plymouth wagon. It's a lot like my C/SA wagon except that it has a Max Wedge hood scoop. I run a flat hood because I thought that the scoop was a part of the lightweight package that is not legal for '64 wagons. Any info would be appreciated!

Chris it looks like they have been deleted from the list, they only show Alum. sedan and hardtop. No wagon, guess nhra dont want them with 425 hp ? Who knows.

Re: any pictures of stock/superstock racing teams from the 7
I believe Tom Kasch here on Classracer ran a couple of early Camaro's, so what were the spec's on those cars, engines & trans etc, maybe he can post the link.

Re: any pictures of stock/superstock racing teams from the 7
Chris, I have argued the hood scoop in Super Stock for a long time. Look at the "Grumpy" scoop on the fiberglass hood on the Bobby Yowell car. There are all different designs of scoops on hoods in these photos. I remember several different designs and some that were actually hand made and mounted on hoods and ran in Super Stock "back in the day."

Well, about all I saw was Chevy & Mopar stuff.
Thread title doesn't specify brands. So, I'll add some Pontiac flavor into the mix. :D Most of these teams began racing in the '60's. But some kept racing into the early '70's, & longer. One major team was the Knafel Pontiac team. May have been the most successful Pontiac race team ever. Went by the name Anderson Pontiac, before changing over to Knafel. Many of their cars were named "Tin Indian". They raced a variety of classes, among which were A/FX, Stock, & SS/S. Had lots of class & event wins, as well as nat records. The Junior Stock book says the team had at least 200 event wins. One of those was Arlen Vanke winning the '66 Spring Nats, in a Knafel '66 GTO. |

I suppose the longest lasting Pontiac race team is probably the Mission Garage team. John Clegg bought a new '73 SD455 Bird, & won the D/S class @ Indy with it, in '73.
He later switched the car over to SS. In recent years they upgraded it & J.B. Clegg has run it well down into the 9's. They eventually got the former H-O Racing Specialties SD455 T/A. J.B. ran it as an auto car, for a few years. They eventually upgraded it & changed over to a stick. J.B. got it well down into the 9's. They have also raced a '74 T/A Stocker. IIRC, it was built by Forrest Pierdolla. Hunter Pierdolla drove it for a few years. It has most recently been driven by Devon Dioguardi. They even ran an SD455 powered '73 GP for a while. John Clegg has also built & raced at least one 3rd gen Bird, that is not Pontiac powered. As far as I know they have at least 3 currently active cars. That's almost 50 years of racing Pontiacs. |
