Sorry everyone it has been a long day. I wanted to do some in car cams but I was just to busy with the Hawk and Cook CJ. It was a blast driving the CJ and hope there are more Showdowns in the future. I think everyone will like the in car cam, its the final of the Showdown with me and Dave. Dave had me on the tree and had me on performance.
Dave ran a 9.371 At 138.54 to my 9.403 142.55. I wish I could have done better for Hawk and Cook and the crew. These guy make you feel like a pro. The car is always ready to go, just jump in and drive, what a pleasure. My driving was not very good but the car had lots of power to get me to the finals. My hat goes off to David Barton for the win. He is one of the hardest working drivers out there. Not only does he tune, but builds engines that make power. If anyone is looking for power, you got to go to Ray Barton Racing, it does not matter the brand, they make power, plain and simple. Just ask Joe Garbarine. Yes its a Barton powered V10, congrats Joe on your number one qualifying in the Factory Stock Showdown. Congrats to Al Carp, your Drag Pack is wick fast, I hope to see you at the track next season. Al, the in car cam is for you bud, I thought you would like it. |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Thanks for sharing the in-car!

Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Here is another in car from my first rd of the Factory Stock Showdown racing Don Fezell.
Rob, thanks so much for videoing the Factory Stock Showdown, along with all the other classes, great job as always. I know its a little early (6:20am) to be posting and man is it cold, but since I'm up I might as well be productive. My weather station is showing the temp at 31 along with a rising bar 29.95 and water grains are lower then I have ever seen. How about this for a DA -1770 ft. I don't see us starting first rd at 9 like the schedule says with it being so cold. It will be a nice day but cool, 60 at best and it will take to the late morning to get any temp in the track in my opinion. Also it will be quicker then yesterday, Super Stock class should be fun to watch along with the Hemi Challenge. |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Ken, should be worth the wait.
It's great to see good weather FINALLY! At the Dutch. Is there more qualifying today or does racing start? Would have been nice to see what some of these cars are capable of if they decided to go the full 1320. |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Does anyone know schedule this morning? Is SS class supposed to go out after Super Street? I know Super Gas needs one more time run from yesterday.

Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Thanks to Kenny and Jack for their great coverage.
A picture of Joe Garbarine's Challenger would be appreciated. |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Should be fast out there today. DA is -1479 right now! 33 degrees and 29.9 barometer...

Good morning - I'm sure a beating is coming -- from the boss who never ever is up at 6 am with postings - all day long its what I'll hear from him .He must not be feeling himself - or maybe he's just tired - you know that autograph signing stuff really wears one out. Or maybe he's just fighting off all the track babes - with him being a full time hired shoe and all it doesn't leave him much time ......best thing that happened to him this year is when he blew up his Cobra Jet - look at the opportunities that are coming his way because of that one incident .All kidding aside he did a super job driving the "Cook n Hawk" car to a runner-up finish last night -- well done Kenny .
This morning is another of those Chamber of Commerce deals - its Sunny with blue skies and very , very pretty out my window - this area of the country is spectacular this time of the year - if you've never been here plan on it .As you'll see from my pic there is a coating on the grass - yep , my friends that is frost - first of the season in these parts - winter is just around the corner . There is plenty of racing left this weekend -- stay tuned ........ |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
9:00 and it's a blistering 37> degrees and sunny!
Baro has gone way up overnite to 29.92" current adjusted altitude @-525' and density altitude of -1128' !!! Just need some heat in the track to go with those numbers . Lots more pictures to post when I can get some bandwidth to upload them. |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Thanks for coverage and videos, enjoy it. The classic is on my bucket list, change that I don't think a bucket will hold all of if,lets change it to 55 gallon drum list.

Well I can see Jack is no where to be found. I think its time for another pay cut. Here are some shots of first round for Super Strock in the lanes. First round is all run and these shots are cars that are paired up already.
Steve Comella in his 68 Dart lost his brakes first rd in the Hemi Shoot Out and hit the catch fence, the car is hurt but Steve is fine. The final for the Hemi Shoot was Joe Teuton vs Tyler Hard. Hard's car started to miss about the 800 ft mark and Joe took the win. Joe went a 8.479 at 157.23 to Tyler's slowing 9.531 at 104.15. |

Well God forbid I get yet another pay cut this year - in case you didn't know Kenny is tough to work for .....before this weekend I was working for peanuts -- now I'm fighting for acorns ....what next ?? Guess I'll have to write a few stories / tell a few tales and then post some pictures . Geez , the guy posts pictures one time this year early and I'm in the doghouse . He's really having a tough time handling his new found stardom so we'll have to cut him some slack ..............he's probably out with the "Wine n Cheese " crowd tonight signing some of his "Hero " cards .
Anyway we got in some first rounds today and Stock went out on the track first and early .Best thing I could say is that the place was wicked fast - no one trusted their dial .Low temps - low humidity - and the barometer increased almost .40 overnight .Most racers say their year best evers yesterday - but today it was twilight zone stuff - the place wasn't a mineshaft - it was way past that for many . Not to say the great air didn't take it toll - countless rear ends - a few transmissions - and engines ----- quite a few in fact but the worst being Al Marks ultra clean '69 Camaro A/SA -- after going thru the traps and winning his round with a dead-on his dial 10.25 -- then he lifted and ca-boom .The rest of the story isn't pretty but Al now has all Winter to fix it . SuperStock got their first round in also - but it took all day to get there as they finally got on the track after 5 pm - same story but not as fast for them - broken pieces and plenty of broken dreams .......and all Winter to "what if " .......... I got more and I'll get to it .....but this should get him off my back ......for a little while anyway . Later ........... |

I guess since the boss is still working I must also -- so here goes -- time to hand out hard luck awards -- the first goes out to Billy Hawk who while in his early Shelby CobraJet B/SA was ready to stage for round one when the starting line official shut him off and signaled for his backing up and giving the other lane a single .The cause - the underhood fuel check valve had a piece of plastic stuck in it and was leaking on the ground - by getting shut off it saved him from a possible big fire .BTW , the fix took no parts and about two minutes of Roger Cooks' time.

Good morning gang - today being the last day of the season for most of us in these parts I realized I'll not see many of my racing friends until next Spring .........Sure a few will show up at the Division Banquet and maybe I'll bump into some of them at the Mall or out having dinner but its just not the same as sharing time at the track .Come on Spring .....
Today we'll go into round 2 in Stock and S/S and by the looks of the morning skies another great day here at Maple Grove Raceway . One last thought - my lifelong friend and former partner Ray Valpreda is hospitalized this weekend in Charlotte - all of you can do me a big favor - keep him in your prayers and ask the big guy in the sky to be kind to him . Later ........... |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Tom,
Thanks for the great pics. |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Good morning friends it's 840 and just arrived at the dutch. Good luck everyone and hopefully a day at the track will make me forget my UT Vols losing last night.

Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Jack - Thank you, Ken and Tom for the pics and reports. I remember Ray and I will certainly keep him my thoughts and prayers.
There was no coverage of yesterday's racing on DRC. Perhaps you and Ken could exert your journalistic influence on the powers that be and get some results posted? |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Stock just finished rd 2 - all those fast ET's are pretty much gone as that big barometer went away this morning - most were slower by 6 to 9 .S/S rd 2 coming up .Today is turning out to be not what we hoped for - cloudy and overcast - not much Sun at all ....
Stock just got called back to the lanes ..........Huh ? |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Don I will do my best.
2nd round of stock is done and Super Stock should be up shortly. The weather for this morning is not as good as it has been, We have been spoiled with killer air, its still good though. When I ran the temp was 57, humid 65%, bar 29.58 and DA 800ft. The in car cam is Steve Ficacci driving the Micro Strategies 08 CJ. |

Hope you enjoy them. JimmieC |
Re: Live from NHRA- Sony/PCRichard Pennsylvania Dutch Class
Tom, I checked the Maple Grove site and they list the records exactly as you did; however there is a glaring discrepancy. Jimmy Ronzello and Don Fezell are both listed as setting the AA/S record - Jimmy Ronzello, AA/S ’08 Cobra Jet, 9.02 - Don Fezell, AA/S, ’08 Cobra Jet, 8.89. In 2010, Jimmy put an automatic in the car and ran in A/SA; if I remember correctly he won A/SA class at Indy in 2010. Is it possible that he set the AA/SA record, or is it just a misprint? If anyone can clarify it will be appreciated.
