I really wanted the bars running through the dash. They didn't fall exactly where I wanted but close enough.

After spending some time looking the cage over there are definitely some things i'm not happy about..... My final assessment, he could've have built a super nice cage but due to rushing built a decent cage.

Hopefully get it painted this weekend.

I am going to ask a very dumb question ....maybe but removing the middle of the cross member... is that allowed in stock? I thought it was just Super Stock

Been legal in Stock for 3 or 4 years now.

I believe under oil pan it reads...
Cross member may be altered for oil pan removal but all removed material must be boxed, or replaced with permanent or removable material.

One thing about my build is I set out to take advantage of every new rule!

I've got some flack about the front bars. That's only a year or two, under firewall.

Thanks for the update. It looks like it is going to be a very nice piece. Looking forward to get a gaze at it when it is done.

Big day!!!!!!

Well.........almost

Ran into 2 problems..

1st motor mounts.
Not sure if the subframe got tweaked or the re pop frame mounts are off. Tried to shim the motor mounts but still fell about half a hole short. Hopefully a little grinding on the driver side frame mount will fix this.

2nd Drag link/oil pan clearance
Not sure if its a truck or corvette pan but the drag link is hitting on the corners. Is this a common problem?

Small block frame brackets and motor mounts will move the engine back about 3/4". -Al

Car is looking real good. Glad to see another stick car. Question though. Is the covering on cowl vent panel legal for stock.

I'm not sure if it is legal or overlooked but 2 out of 3 cars I've looked at have the vents covered. I had the panels just tacked in case they need to be removed.

This is with the shifter all the way back on the tailshaft and you could move it maybe 2 holes forward.

Thanks Todd.

Still have some trimming to do but the man handle is in. Now I can start getting a idea where I wanna mount the seat.

Anyone willing to share some pics of there kirkey seat install would be much appreciated. I just can't figure out how I wanna go about it.

I'd like to have some adjustment cause there's a SMALL chance I let my old man behind he wheel someday, lol.....

Re: 69 Camaro B/S

Kirkey has seat mounts available. Two formed angles with multiple holes to suit angle. You could mount these to a slider bracket. Lots of pics on the web.

I have a pair of these now.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S

A friend of mine cut the mounts about 1 inch above the bottom mounting flange and welded them to the bottom of the Kirkey, then bolted the flange to a seat track.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S

While we're waiting on Todd to get out of paint shop prison I'll get a update in..

Seats are in.

I started fitting the interior.... The gauge cluster turned into a nightmare with the dash bar but after quite the modifications I was able to get it fit. Looks like the K&R switch panel is gonna fit nice in the radio spot .
https://i.imgur.com/hLat2wY.jpg

I ended up going with Aeromotive for the entire fuel system.

Hopefully the weather breaks so I can roll it outside and paint the trunk and dash. Until then the radiator is ordered and on its way.

How wide are your kirkey seats? Did you have to make a custom bracket to attach them to the floor? Do you have any pictures? Thank You

17" wide. Ended up using 2X2 aluminum. Had to offset the bolt holes for the floor but it all worked.
The brackets bolted to the seat came from S&W. You should be able to get the idea from the pic I posted but I'll try to get a better one.

For what it's worth Rhodes race cars sells a nice bracket that bolts to the floor then bolt the seat to it but there like 150 each side.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S

I need to drive up to ART and get some of those carbon bar protectors. I also like the Aeromotive in-tank A1000. Coming together nicely!

Re: 69 Camaro B/S

Thanks Todd.

Radiators in. Champion was great to work with and charged $100 to add the an fittings. I have to redo the top hose. What's that saying, measure twice cut once lol

https://i.imgur.com/UeAIQzS.jpg

The clown that did the cage talked me into letting him build a wheelie bar. What a total POS!!!!! It was 10" to long, un sprung and so crooked and weak I probably would've wrecked if it hit.

Anyone in the new England area stay far away from Steve Oldham and Top Notch chassis prison in Freetown MA.

I gave Ken Keir a call and he got me situated. What a super nice piece, night and day from the $700 junk I was left with.

Thinking about the AutoPlumb adapters for the radiator so I don't have to mess with welding to the radiator.

Sent you a PM about the bars.

I saw the adapters but figured it was just another place to leak or have a problem. For the extra 100 I felt it was well worth it.. think I have 6 change into the rad, fans, shroud and fittings.....I set out to way over build the car in case I wanna go a different route some day but most importantly I want to lessen any chance of problems so I can drive it like I stole it...

After I saw the pics of the cage in your car. I thought the fab guy did a nice job, ( post # 40 ) and in # 67 your bashing his work. ????

J&S Racing 04-12-2018 05:10 PM

Re: 69 Camaro B/S

The more time I spend with it the more disappointed I get... don't get me wrong, it had the potential to be a super nice piece but some of the fit is horrible and they tried to cover it with questionable welding along with other issues.. the recent realization that the bars are a $700 paperweight prompted a Google Search of his name where I found ALL Horror stories. Out of 3 or 4 guys I was the only one to get my car back in one piece.

I would like to thank site sponsor Gregg Kelly from MotorSports Innovations.
Picked up a IQ3 logger dash, MSD 7AL3 and HVC coil.

I was able to make a deal on a soft lok. Its on its way to Mcleod now for rebuild. Hopefully have everything wired by the time its back so I can fire this thing off!!!!:D

Got everything mounted today. start running wires tomorrow.

Boy it took a lot of work getting everything fit with the dash bar. The fuel gauge needed some trimming but I made it all work..

https://i.imgur.com/teV32qy.jpg
Sure had more important things to do but after a few Cape coddaaas I used a extra piece from the roll bar cover and made mirror block offs.

That's K&R's setup.. way overkill for what I'm doing but again I wanted options in the future..

Super nice deal!! The switch panel attaches with 1 plug. The kit comes with enough wire, ends and shrink tubing to wire a few cars. All the wires are labeled and it comes with a nice laminated schematic.

Is it. 1 too many double cheeseburgers sandwiched between grilled cheeses?
