Or they could just say that because none of it happened at an NHRA facility, whatever the guy did in his own home is none of NHRA's business. Can you be fired from your job because you smoked a joint while on vacation? eric you can be fired from your job if you smoke a joint at home at most jobs if you drop dirty your done nhra has a rule abought drug felonies and convictions and also on alcohol as in you must have a valid drivers licence ther forth if you lose your licence for drunk driving you cant race so in some ways nhra has set rules that effect you even if you do them away from the track |
Re: Online Petition
Jeff,
I've never had anyone from NHRA ask me for my state drivers license, just my NHRA membership card and Competition License. |
Re: Online Petition
eric
page233 section 10.4 credentials each driver of a vehicle entered in any event conducted at an nhra member track must have a valid state or goverment issued drivers license beyond a learners permit level or nhra compitition license subject to inspection by officials at any time 2007 nhra rulebook |

i,ve got to agree with you to i,ve never been asked for my drivers license either, i,ve never been drug or alcohol tested either, but i,m fairley shure if your falling down drunk in the staging lanes or stoned and they see it you will be tested and suspended. as if you were to lose your license and some body found out that didnt like you and told the right offical i,m shure that too would get you suspended at least that is my interpitation of the way the rule book reads |
Re: Online Petition
Jeff,
You're right: "If your falling down drunk in the staging lanes or stoned and they see it". My point is that if you're doing this at home, it's none of their business (same as it's not your job's business what you do at home - as long as you're not impaired when you come to work). NHRA can't be expected to put a "high morals" clause in their rulebook to demand that everyone who holds an NHRA membership card does absolutely nothing to tarnish the NHRA image. They would have no way to police this (other than the few times something makes the newspaper and mentions the person being an NHRA racer). Now back to my original point: NHRA could state that "anyone convicted of a felony is suspended", but I don't think they can just say that "the only crime worth suspending someone over is possession of child pornography". It's too broad. Everybody have a great weekend! |
Re: Online Petition
Just a quick note about NHRA and the topic of alcohol/drug use...If you've ever participated at a national event, you know that you can be drug and alcohol tested at any time...
Now Eric said "what you do at home is your own business"...well that ain't exactly true...if you smoke dope at home thursday night and friday am when you show up to run at the national event you can be "served" with papers to go get tested...now they do give you 24 hours to show up for the test, but you must get tested and if you dont show up you will be suspended...and if you test positive yu can get suspended... No different than some state and county jobs, etc... So just the point of what you do outside of the track can come under the NHRA's scrutiny... Just my .02... Eric...when the heck are you gettin another car ???????? |
Re: Online Petition
With nearly 4,800 views and only a handful of supporters (willing to show their name) I am not sure if NHRA would take this online petition seriously. We may need to take the next step and get signatures and addresses at a divisional race. I would be able to do this in Div1 and get 90% of people to sign, however I am concerned with other Divisions really not caring enough to do anything. I guess we will have to see if anything comes up.

Re: Online Petition
i think that over 4800 people looking at this in effect makes a statement. no i don't think having signatures on pI think that over 4800 people looking at this in effect makes a statement. No I don't think having signatures on paper is going to do anything in this case. The issue at hand is the law and the rights of Mr. "R" like it or not.
Mr. "R" has used his position, his friends and his money to get him into a position that he can get on with his life. Which he has? He now has a second shot at life. He will not wake up in jail for the next 10 years. And therefore, the punishment has been served with both a fine and community service and he is on probation. So therefore, in the eyes of the law he is free to do with his life as he wishes, within the law (register as a child sex offender). Now I haven't been an active racer thanks to a little bad luck. But, I was at the division one race this weekend as a fan. With that being said sometimes I feel like I have no right to say anything on this site. But, after Chris?s last statement I feel like I should. I know Chris just had a baby (congrats by the way) so his feelings are probably the strongest of anybody. My baby is now 27 so I?m a little further away from understanding his feelings. But, here is my point. Use your strength as a family. Pit near each other, protect and watch out for each other. Which you do already, and as a rule I think you will be OK you do that now I?m sure. If you didn?t before you should now. There?s a point to bring to the nhra attension. For the safety of equipment and family be able to pit near one another to act as self-watchdogs. If Mr "r" has the money and power to get out of his mess. How much cash may he have if he wants to go drag racing again. He? d sue the pants off of the nhra and probably win. So here's what I think will happen. If he has a passion for the sport. He will stay away for a year or 2 or maybe more. But, if he loves it he will return. (Which is really easy I?ve lived it) he will get better between his ears. He will have paid the price himself. He is not stupid. And when he comes back, no you will not be happy about it, but it is his right. Its then up to you, if you want to shake his hand when you see him again. Like it or not, his problem is being sick. Some might say that its not his fault, he was made that way. Bull****, but that is the way the world see's it. I don?t have small children any more, and I feel for those who have a strong feeling against his racing as Chris has stated. But, that is wasted energy. I wish I was wrong and if my signature on a piece of paper helps keep him off the track then I?ll sign it. Just be careful of how much energy you want to spend on this topic/event. he sold everything, what makes you think he's coming back?

Re: Online Petition
actually i don't know if he will or not. for all i know his drag racing carrer is what turned him into this child offender. my assumsion was that "IF" he loved it enough, as i write this he is working on his return. when is up to him and his wallet. my car has sat in my garage with no engine in it for over a year. but, not a day goes by that i don't hink about comeing back. weather that is actively building, or buying, or installing "stuff" to get that car back. even going to this web site counts for me.
as for mr "R", life would be easier for the active racers and there families if he never returned, but respect him and understand him if he does. be ready to take steps to protect you and yours, always staying within the law. your no better in the eyes of the public if you break the law, though they may forgive you if you do. |

Re: Online Petition
Carlos,
Maybe this subject is too away from your reality to understand / affect your daily life. I cant figure how "DRAG RACING" makes you horny for kids between 3-16 years old. Funny when I go to the track I want adrenaline, competition, fun, and CARS! If you see it as a child display area then maybe you should register also! The problem that arises is that something in his/her brain is telling him that children are attractive and it is not something that just changes by going to 1 years worth of meetings! Maybe the 10 years on sex offender registry will change him/her or maybe it will not. I just do not feel comfortable knowing that there is a man who is known to be sexually attracted to people's children parked across from me! So does NHRA want a "Family Sport" i.e..Junior Drag Racing League, Image of Youth Award, ect.or do they want a "Mans Sport" (no offence ladies). If they do not suspend him I will still come racing, I will park NO WHERE NEAR HIM, I just believe that this is something that SHOULD be looked at more closely (as many people do). So I said my Peace (again) and will not post about this issue again. I started this post to get a racers backing and not to discuss what NHRA may or may not do, I want to see what they WILL do when faced with a petition that people want something done. So If you agree post your car number and class, If not you can feel free to start a new post and discuss anything you want. Please NOT HERE! Just backers not people against or talkers. Thanks! |
Re: Online Petition
Chris,
I agree with you 100%! I just don't believe NHRA will actually do anything about it. I applaude your effort and I hope this helps. Michele Corigliano 1317 SC |
Re: Online Petition
For those that don't know anything about the guy or case some info mite be helpful before we sign on. Was it a case where a devoriced wife was teaching the X a leson by claiming he touched thier little boy? Or did the guy get caught with his hands in his pants. But if the guy had any lude contact with kids sign me up.

Re: Online Petition
Decon,
No known contact, and no it was not his wife as he was still married (happily, I believe) when this all went down. I would have to assume there is a divorce in the works not, but I don't know that for sure. I don't remember how he was caught, but it had nothing to do with racing. |
Re: Online Petition
I don't know the particulars of his conviction/sentence, however when an individual is sentenced for a child sex crime there is usually a restriction put in place stating he/she may not come within a certain distance of anyone considered a child/underage.
If this is the case, the problem would be solved. JM stated NHRA probably wouldn't want to get involved, if there is a court order NHRA would not have a choice but to honor it If not I'll sign it PS: I worked in Law Enforcement ( Corrections) for 25 years dealing with POS like him |

I don't know Bill personally, but IMO you were WAY off base to launch an attack on him, especially since I do not think you are correct in who we were generally talking about. Yes, Gene Snow was mentioned in the conversation. But, I believe the REAL subject of this conversation was Regis Lepage, not Gene Snow as your links would lead us to believe (particularly since this thread is located in the .90 Heads Up Class Racing forum, and the thread was started by a .90 Heads Up Class Racing competitor). In addition, had you read the story you linked, you would have read: "While it was stipulated that he have no contact with children under seventeen, clearly spelled out in the conditions was that Snow would not be subjected to conditions normally assigned to a sex offender." Thus, though Mr. Snow doesn't have to register as a sex offender, I'm not sure how he could hang out at the races with at least 10,000 kids under 17 years of age there. So, as Bill stated, problem solved. The reason people are upset with the case against Mr. Lepage is because he did not serve jail time. However, he IS a registered sex offender, as can be seen here: http://sor.informe.org/cgi-bin/sor/s...UBURN&limiter= I don't know for certain, but I would guess that contact with minors is prohibited as a registered sex offender, especially considering the fact that Mr. Lepage was convicted of possession of sexually explicit material of a minor under 12 years of age. |

Re: Online Petition
i know this thread is old, but i just had to point out- how many other sex offenders are at events? do you even know how many actually live around you? at least with this person (i asume this is about gene snow) you know he is one and can take measure to keep your kids safe, besides people will be watching him no matter what he does.

Re: Online Petition
YES,the man should not be allowed to compete or step foot on any NHRA racing facility. RUMOR is that a man of HIGH standing in the NHRA is of the NOT so NORMAL form of lifestyle when it comes to sexual orientation. If true,I wonder how old some of the males he dates are? This subject hits very close to home as I had a 3 yr. old Grandson murdered by his step father. This prick only got 10 straight years in prison with no chance of parole. Never spent a day in court at trial!!!!
