In all areas of the country, there were always the local & regional racers that tried their hand at going against the touring pros and heavy hitters. Who were the racers in your part of the country that ran in Pro Stock but stayed close to home or competed in local circuits?
Heres a few from the NW and the "left coast" back in the day:
Photo 1: Ken Tucker's div.6 Vega at Portland, Ore. in '75.
Photo 2: Mike Rendell's Pinto from Washington & Gary Coe's Pinto wagon from Oregon in '74 at Seattle.
Photo 3: Mardy Maltais' Washington based Vega at Mission B.C. in '74.
Photo 4: Lee Hunter's div.7 Pinto against Gapp & Roush "Taxi" at Seattle in '75.
Photo 5: Gary Coe again in a Mustang II against Humphrey & Lambeck at Seattle in '80.
Photo 6: Gary Pugh's Monza from Washington against Dick Landy's Omni at Seattle in '80.
Photo 7: Terry Sherrill's Camaro from div.6, near lane at Seattle, '80. Not sure who the other Camaro in the far lane is.

Is there any connection between Ken Tucker & Grumpy's Vega??. It has a certain familiarity to it. (So it seems Wheel wells, wheelie bars etc.)

I agree,, there is a certain familiarity to this Vega, compared to one hatched in Pennsylvania around '72, but I'm sure its just one of many "copycats" that appeared all around the country back then. This was the only time I ever saw this car. I'd never heard of Ken Tucker before that,,, or since. If someone know what happened to that car or racer, chime in and bring us up to date.

Is this the one they put the "automatic transmission" in that stirred up things so much?
Don't remember if it was really a timed, air shifted deal or what but I do remember they outlawed it the next year.

Looks like the name is "Mike" Brawning maybe. Ray Williams mechanic. And by the name of the car just guessing it's from West Virginia.

Yes! Remember seeing it at the 86 Keystones (he won). I think it was electric solenoids that did the shifting.

I remember a Diamond P in car camera of that car. Both hands on the wheel. And I think you are correct about the timed shifts. Similiar to the clutch timers in the funny cars now.
