Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Here's some photos from the Nova's clutch pedal switch. When its done it'll have a piece of rubber on the stop itself. As you can see the bracket welded to the pedal holds the switch back so as the pedal arm contacts the stop it pushes the button about 3/4 down so it's stopping on the arm and not the switch.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Thanks for the pics!! the stop was hard to see in the others.
Progress has been slow but steady..... with the realization Im not gonna get to grab gears this season I had to get the super comp car ready for a few upcoming races but...... Clutch came back from Mcleod and looks like brand new. After everything was said and done I came in at half from new so that was nice. I have everything for the install minus the flywheel bolts. Been looking for a adjustable mount to secure the seat to the cage but have had a hard time with the 1 1/4 cross bar. I finally came across this set up from Scram Speed. Once Im happy with a seat location Ill add a few welds. The motor mount deal reared its ugly head again. To my understanding the BB mounts roll the motor 1/2' to the passenger side. With the SB mounts I loose the clearance on the header, Its not touching but its as close as it gets, I guess a small dent is in order. I also had to change the Z bar out for the SB one. [IMG]https://i.imgur.com/FW3rsy6.jpg[/IMG} I really wanted to use a standard size battery but does not look like that can happen. After some work to the tray I should be able to fit one of the smaller Braille batteries. |

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Take a 2"ish pipe lay it on the header running the same direction as the steering shaft and give it a whack. I like that seat brace, I may have to order one too.
|
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
No gasket on the mock up so I know it'll get worse I've probably got 1/2 a gasket clearance from the shaft now. what a chore even getting the drivers side header on. The header and steering box had to go on at the same time.
I'm super happy with the seat mounts! They were 100each. Since I'm not 100% on where the seat is mounted I wanted something adjustable with the future plan to weld. I will say it clamps on super tight and I was surprised just how much it secured the seat. I have Lebanon valley divisional then NE national in the next few week so hopefully make a big push after that. I'm hoping to have it together enough to make the Atco div in August and hopefully get the chassis cert. Like I said, probably not gonna see the track this year but I will fire it off and take it down the street. Lol |

Thanks! I used SB frame and motor mounts for the oil pan to clear the drag link. From what I have read the BB mounts roll the motor 1/2" to the passenger side. The BB z bar is 1/2" longer than the SB one to acount for that. I was looking at shimming out the frame mount for the z bar but with the SB one it fits like a glove. This is the same reason I'm tight on the header. Stahl recommended the BB mounts with these headers. |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Honestly, if it was mine I'd face the mounting bosses off about .125 to move the box laterally. The rag joint should accomodate this. The column could be loosened up and lined up accordingly, as well. Then, no header gasket...just a thin bead of sealer like Valco Aluminized silicone.
For what it's worth. -Al |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Do a mock up with a Vega Box. Note: You may need a special Pitman arm if you go that route.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Calvin Elston makes the nearest smallest motor mounts for your car. You can put the motor where you need it to be. Also save a lot of time changing motors. The work like a motor plate. Completely NHRA legal for stock eleminator.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
After a few weekends of racing I was able to spend some time on the stocker.
Seemed like a good time to get started on the clutch.... or so I thought https://i.imgur.com/pYMUltV.jpg Everything was going smooth until I insalled the Bellhousing, the Mcleod aluminum bellhousing I bought with the understanding fits this combo. Apparently there are "issues" 1st.. counter weight fingers 2nd.. I was told the base adjusters could be reached through the inspection window. 3rd.. the fork hitting the pressure plate with the pivot ball backed all the way out. My frustration was only amplified after 2 phone calls with techs who had no idea what I was talking about. Finally today I spoke to the lead tech who was aware of these issues. I'm not at all happy my 1100 Mcleod bellhousing will not direct fit my Mcleod clutch but they seem more than willing to get this sorted. So far the plan is to change out the fingers for a newer style that should give 1/8" clearance. He is gonna send another block plate for another 1/8" if needed. some machine work is needed on the rear plate to get the fork off the pressure plate and have proper stroke. Far as the base adjusters.... think im gonna have to make something to go through the fork window. |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
You can get billet aluminum spacers that go between the block and block saver in either 1/8 or 1/4 in. That should give you the clearance you need for the levers and the pressure plate to fork. Also, are the heads ground flat on the pressure plate that hold the levers in place so they don't protrude past the surface of the pressure plate cover? It looks as though they are in the picture but not sure. Also, by using the spacer, that will give you plenty of end play. Some were having problems with the input of the trans bottoming out against the pilot bearing and wiping out the thrust bearing. You can drill a hole in the face of the bellhousing where the trans bolts to for base adjustment. Lastly, if you haven't done so, zero out the bellhousing.
Here is a link for the spacer.https://www.summitracing.com/oh/part...-250/overview/ I enjoyed following the progress on your car. Coming along nicely. Hope to see you at the Dutch in the fall! |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
I run two backing plates works fine 1969 Camaro g/s
|
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
I would bolt the trans. to the bell on the ground and measure the face of the bell to the end of the input shaft then measure the mounting surface on the block to the pilot bearing. Just to make sure the input shaft isn't bottoming out into the pilot. Looking good keep up the nice work.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Very cool build! Only one question, I didn’t think the roll bar through the firewall to the front frame was legal in stock eliminator?

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Was that a change this year? I have the 2017 rule book and it states otherwise, and only reason I ask is I have a super stock Dakota that I’m building that also has this bars through the firewall but I could run stock also if that’s the case, it’s a small tire stock wheelwell truck.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Thanks for the advice on the bellhousing. I spoke to Fred at McLeod and he thinks the spacer will help the counter weight finger issue but it will still need some machining for the fork. When I get it back I'll also check the input length at the pilot bearing and zero it out.
So about 4 years ago I was offered a good deal on s/c dragster. Actually paid less for it race ready than the stockers 396 lol. Few weeks ago I had a decent weekend at our tracks program. Saturday I had the bye into the final but a electric problem shut me down pulling up to the water. Sunday I went red -.001 in the 3rd. This Saturday it came together and I got my first win!!! Sunday I almost got to race my old man in the final but he bowed out in the semi. I ended up loosing the final by two thou. I have a few weeks before our next race so hopefully I can get something done on the Camaro. Think I'm gonna tackle closing up the rear seat and package tray area. Might try Todd's trick and burn some holes in the carpet sections. https://i.imgur.com/zBB8hfC.jpg |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Congrats on the win in the digger!

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
I bought the same bell-housing the spring. I was first concerned with the lever clearance too. I saw that there was only about an 1/8" of clearance. But when the levers are under centrifugal force. They will move forward, towards the block. Not the transmission. Been running it since May without an issue.
As for the fork clearance. I shortened the pivot ball bolt. Youll just have to lengthen the bell crank rod to make up the difference. Pretty sure i set the fork so it sat parallel with the front face of the transmission. And still had about 3/8" clearance for the levers and throw out bearing. Hope this helps, steve |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Thanks Steve.
I installed the spacer last night. Definitely helped with finger clearance Hopefully this weekend I can find some time to re check the fork. Sounds promising if you got yours to work. I've been super busy with the dragster but I did find some time for the stocker. The last pieces for the door panels showed up. https://i.imgur.com/BlZshTh.jpg I got lucky with the rear panels, I didn't have them when the cage went in. It's a tight fit for sure. They still need some tweaking to match the fronts but there close. https://i.imgur.com/m4K6ngc.jpg https://i.imgur.com/nfcOgN4.jpg After the seat covers went on I felt like I was sitting a bit higher than I wanted. I ended up bringing the rear of the seat down on the mounts and ran the bolt down through the seat and both brackets. Not only did I score little over a inch now everything seems a lot more solid. https://i.imgur.com/m7UhYDX.jpg |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Getting there. New door panels look sweet.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
For whatever reason I've always got my parts from Rick's camaro.
The panels are PUI platinum. I gotta say there super nice but there's 1 thing that bothers me, if you look above the camaro emblem they put the seam of the trim right there. Why would they not have put that at the bottom? I'll get a quick update in as there won't be any for a few months but then it'll be final assembly time! I started checking for alignment of the bellhousing. While checking the parallel I was having issues seeing the dial when it was at the 12 position but noticed the needle was going positive as it got close. I wasn't happy with the powder coat on the bell so I decided to sand it off on the mating surfaces. In the mean time I checked the depth of the input shaft into the pilot bearing and fell short with the 1/4 block spacer. I pulled the spacer and measured it and found it was got .010 thicker from the dowel holes to the top. I've decided to send the pressure plate back and have the fingers replaced to the new style and not use a spacer at all.. I made a stop to get a quote on putting the nose back together and painting a few things but ended up making a deal on RE painting the whole car... I gotta pull a few more things off and I should hopefully get it to the shop next weekend. I just hope this doesn't turn into paint shop prison!! |
Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Progress is good! Good luck in paint, hopefully it'll be an in-n-out process.

Re: 69 Camaro B/S
Managed to get the back seat / package try area closed up before it left for the body shop. I scored some .040 aluminum scrap for cheap. Came out OK, thankfully it'll be covered with carpet. Still need to run a bead of fireproof caulk.
https://i.imgur.com/JZ3aMHG.jpg Things are rolling surprisingly smooth at the body shop. Ended up adding a few things on while it's there. https://i.imgur.com/L7D2ggI.jpg Someone did a horrible job patching this before. Need to be cleaned up. https://i.imgur.com/MW5AKZe.jpg It's really been aggravating me where the meat stick that did the cage cut the dash and the mess he left me with. Along with a hole someone cut for gauge wires I decided to have the whole thing replaced. https://i.imgur.com/bKBPE2Y.jpg The plan is to start laying color next week........ if I can decide on a color lol |
