Maybe the Fenton decal is a giveaway, but I sure don't remember them making those wheels. I mostly remember chrome slots and black spoke mags from them.

For trivia points, anyone remember the two other "brothers" to the Cragar SS while used the same style?

There were a few others companies like Radir (some spell it Rader or Radar) as well as Fenton and Hurst that made these 5 spoke wheels with different designs...

http://s3.racingjunk.com/ui/2/79/229...E-GASSER-S.jpg

Sears Roebuck also sold some el' cheapo knock offs...

These Radir wheels are called 'Tri Rib' 5 spoke mags...

These 5 spokes were called 'Fenton Hawks' and have a ribbed edge...

And these are Fenton 'Sharks' that a lot of the racers used back in late 60's...

The MotorWheel Flys were probably the coolest wheels of the era.
I had a set of MotorWheel magnesium Flea front wheels on my Modified Production Javelin.
We used to get out the Simichrome and polish them every Friday night before the races, and by Sunday afternoon they were turning gold with oxidation !
Sold them to Al Corda years ago ,probably the only race car part I ever regretted selling.

I like the Fenton Sharks but nothing tops the Cragar SS wheels. I've always said that they even make a Studebaker look good!

During this era I was racing a 340 Duster with that stupid 4" bolt circle so I was limited to Ansen aluminum slots unless I wanted to redrill the hubs/axles. I do have to admit that Mopar's craziness saved my wheels, though. One morning I came out to my car to discover two wheels on the same side and three twisted off lugs between them.

Good thing the thieves weren't smart enough to know about left handed threads.

one brother was the Fenton Super Sharks. I got them when I bought my first car, a 1969 GTO.

Re: Old Stockers

a bit of trivia here. the man who owned fenton was a good friend of the man who owned cragar . fenton was falling on hard times in the early 70's. so the cragar co. allowed the fenton co. to make exact copies of the cragar S/S wheel. and sell them as fentons. this helped the bottom line. a bit later fenton made a wheel like the cragar supertrick wheel, except they were one piece and street legal. the box came with a bag of nuts and bolts. i sold a lot of those, they were the coolest street wheel around. all the old guys like lou senter [ansen] are gone now.

When I mentioned the "brother" wheels to the Cragar S/S I was referring to the Cragar G/T and S/T. You didn't see too many of them since the chrome S/S looked so good very few bought the others.

The other wheels used the same center casting, but one had a black finish center with chromed rim and the other had a natural cast center.

At least that's how I remember them.

I still remember how odd the Super Tricks looked the first time I saw them. We went from the classic good looks of the S/S to the pure function of a disk wheel.

Let's not forget the Zeeker Max Wedge-style aluminum cylinder heads for the 383/440 cu. in. Mopar that Loren developed and sold in the early-mid-1980s, forerunner to Indy Cylinder Heads' version of same head based on the patterns and molds they bought from Mr. Zeedyk.

Back in the late 1980s an acquaintance of mine (Frank Maffiore of Ask Frank First fame) switched from Chevy Rally wheels w/center caps to Weldwheels (8-hole version) and reduced the ET a couple of tenths in his mid-eleven second 1980(?) Chevy Malibu bracket car.

Based on that, I'd guess it'd be a similar performance improvement switching from heavy Cragar S/S to very light Super Tricks.

Natural gray center and machined aluminium rim.
I really liked the look of those rims except there was no offset to them.

Dave still owns the Cuda and has had it for a long time.

I bought a 64 Plymouth with aluminum fenders from Loren. No drivetrain, wheels tires or rear end housing, fiberglass hood,. the interior was mostly aluminum as it had been made into a bracket car. It did have the trade mark Black & yellow with Dragway Automotive painted on it. This wasn't to long before he started Zeeker. Do you remember when he and David Mosley started a company called APE, Atlanta Performance Engineering?

Interesting history on the Brainbeau '67 car...I always thought Burgess was "Mopar-only." By coincedence, I was at that Sanford race when they got the mph record but I
don't remember the car...I was too busy watching Grump's SS/C Camaro win Super Stock (I think?) Believe they got most of the event in the books when it started to pour...in fact this July date was a re-run of the original June date if I'm not mistaken?

On the way home through town, noticed activity at a local gas station and stopped. Saw Grump's car, the "Kicks" B/S Biscayne, and other cars being torn down under the gas pump canopies.

BTW Paul, do you know where the Brainbeau '66 car ended up?

Hey Moose: Your very first post with all those pictures. I believe those were the class winners from the Winternationals at Pomona in 1971 or 72. My E/S Z-28 is shown, far left about 4 pictures down right next to Jonn Burkholders F/S. My time on the final for class (et) was terrible but still one class. I was trying a new tach with engine shut-off that malfunctioned and the engine shut off, for what seemed to be forever, in the top of first gear before returning to life !!! I was racing a pretty good Ford of ??? Charbanaugh (spelling?) and don't know how I beat him with that time - must have been a "holeshot" !!!

Lots of Vegas and Camaros in some of those threads though. Race cars in motion thread comes to mind. 65 is sort or an arbitrary cut off regardless of the brand. GM body styles run 64-67. Mopar and Ford seem similar. Of course I specialize in 70-72. That is a problem.
