Neither?

That's a great shot as I've never seen anything even close to it before. Not much I recognized there until I realized the condenser was mounted externally - and it's big! Its mounting bolt would be where the electrical lead snapped on.

I suspect the cam lobes might be hidden from view underneath the bracket that locates the center shaft. I'm not sure that I can see the end of the contact block, so if it's underneath that bracket my theory makes sense.

And since it appears the part mounts solidly with two bolts, the threaded bolt at 12 o'clock must be to set the duration.

Am I getting warm?

I think it's definitely an electrical timing device, but not necessarily ignition. Does this go with an early FI system?

Assuming you were talking about the flathead V-8...

It was from a Ford Flathead Six....oh so close.

This is an odd head. I took the photos of it at the Miller Reunion in Milwaukee last year. So it is probably some sort of Indy car head or something like it. I don't know what it fits, but thought I'd throw it out to see if anyone ever saw one. I'm thinking it looks like it fits a Ford V8, or maybe an inline four?

James, that almost looks like one of those mid sixties Indy car engines that had the exhaust pipes that exited from the top of the motor and out the back down the center of the car...I'll try to dig up a photo of one, but I'm still unsure of the type of engine it was, as most were overhead cams.

by the way that ford 6 dist was the EARLY 6 cylinder engine design years were 1941-47--the later design engine1947-1957 uses a cap that looks like a conventional dist cap not the crab style like the one in the picture -those heads look like a 4 cylinder design used rocker pedastals if you look at the pics ya can see the mounting pads--doubt if it is a racing piece a u flow head might not be that efficient---the block a Mopar ??

It is one of those Competion eliminator motors that they take a v/8 and make it in to a 4.LOL

Re: Old Race Parts and Pieces

No it wasn't one of those, lol...and yes it "was" a 5.0L 302 Ford motor.

Can anyone guess what type of motor this was with outboard 4 bbl carbs...

Re: Old Race Parts and Pieces

Notice the notches on the lower cylinders, I bet it was a 347 stroker motor that had just a little to much boost added before it self destructed...

Can anyone else guess what that other engine was with the outboard carbs on it was...
