My most favorite drag racer of all time ...Bob Glidden

Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
I remember a finish line interview when Glidden was in Motorcraft red.
After winning the event (yet again) he told the announcer "These are our good old days. One day it will end and this is what we will look back on". What a legacy he left behind. |

Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
Oh yeah, Buddy Ingersol's Buick was badass! This car was a crystal ball vision into the future of drag racing, but ironically not the future of Pro Stock. I believe that this car was the forerunner of todays Outlaw and possibly even Pro Modified classes.
The sanctioning bodies did all that they could to hold Buddy back and ultimately terminated this car from competition at a time when anyone could walk into a Buick dealership and buy a rear wheel drive Regal with a turbocharged V-6 ...no one could buy a Boss HEMI powered T-Bird from a Ford dealership or a big block Camaro from a Chevy dealer at that time. |

Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
I always see the demise of the Taxi referred to as a "pit accident", does anyone have any further info on this? Was it a fire or hit by another car/truck? Can't believe a car that well know gets destroyed and nobody knows what happened, or pictures of it. Always been curious about that story.

Re: 70's & 80's Pro Stockers
You guys keep posting them, and thanks for the fantastic memories brought back to life. I don't even remember some of them, like the Toxic Arrow and it amazes me how many were out there kicking around when match racing was so prevalant across the country. As a teenager we use to go see Herb, Ronnie, Dyno, etc. doing the rosin burnouts at Clarksville (TN) Dragway....those were the days (really!).
