Tim, glad you're feeling better and back after it. I would take a long bus ride to a race just to see that car run. Wow, that thing is a Chevy at it's finest.
Thanks for the pics and thanks for building the car too.

First trip through the water box is gonna be painfull. At least after the pass is over and you see the dirt on it!! lol That is a very nice build. One of the best looking cars I have seen..

Back on the Camaro build today. Tim's still a by stander for another few weeks. My brother Tony is finishing up on some motor work. Couldn't do this without him.

Thanks guys for the compliments on the car! I can't wait until I can start turning wrenches on it again, but for now I have to trust the" GODFATHER" Uncle Tony (my real godfather, get it lol its an Italian thing) for the engine work!!

Are the Sander rims lighter than say a rim from Weld? If so any idea on the weight of your rims? Thanks Ken

Sorry I haven't weighed the wheels yet. I will weigh them and let ya know if there is any difference when I get back to working on it.

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

Update on the car, had some motor issues, long story short, we are building a brand new motor for the car. Was hoping to be out this year ,but not looking good at this point. At least now I know everything will be brand new in this motor and my own. My uncle had a good block so we are using it along with new pistons, rods, cam, lifters all of it ! So maybe late this year, but its looking like next year. As nice as this car turned out no reason on rushing anything especially the main piece and no reason to throw something in it just to get it out. I'll get some pics as we go on the motor to keep ya updated. Everything is at the machine shop as we speak. My buddy Jim Evans RCE (comp racer) is gonna fix me up with hopefully one bad 396 setup!! We are gonna go to the dyno too, so it should be a cool fun build!

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

Lots of people have been asking about how I'm doing and hows the car coming so I just decided to say I'm doing great and the car is pretty much sitting in the garage waiting on the new motor. The new motor should be a very nice piece , Jim is doing one hell of a job on it, in between his racing, they just won the Chicago National event in Comp!!! I have purchased everything brand new and starting from scratch. I hope to be out next year for sure. When the motor starts going together I'll get some pics and hopefully some dyno videos. I got some little things to do to the car so I'll be posting pics here and there soon. I can't wait to get back out and race this car it kills me just to go out in the garage and look at it and wax it lol!

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

It's going now all machine work done ,mock up will begin . Cam and lifters are in. Rods here, should all start coming together nicely . Can't wait to see what kind of power we can make !

You can run aftermarket pistons . My pistons are NHRA legal Diamond part number 80013 1967 396 375 hp. I guess I should have said we have one mocked up to check all clearances then the other 7 can go in . I'm clarifying this for the question Robert had just to make this clear. Sorry for any confusion.

This should be a very nice 396! This thread should keep rolling along now :)

You have a beautiful car and very cool. Forgive me for asking such a question. But, I did not think that the piston domes could be modified in any way to match the heads in stock eleminator? Or is this a practice I was not awair of? Or is this a SS project?

Thanks

Robert

Your forgiven. This is a A/S build. Section 10A, Page 5. Class stock. OEM or NHRA -accepted aftermarket replacements permitted provided such items comply with all requirements set forth in this section.
Aftermarket pistons may be forged or cast and must retain the as-cast or as-forged HEAD CONFIGURATION.

Wow amazing Stocker build!

Robert Simpson 12-07-2015 01:13 PM

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

Ok that makes sence. There is not a direct replacement piston for you combination. Will the machining remove the NHRA numbers, or are they on the bottom? Thanks again.

Robert

Matt,

They are 15x10 with 5 inch backspace . The tires are Mickey Thompson 29.5 x 9.0 x 15S

What a beautiful tire package ,just like the tire on your red stocker you had,man that is gona be hard to decal that thing if contingent money is in the plan, super sharp stocker ,you do nice work, what are you aiming at .8 to 1.0 under

TOSTO RACING 12-29-2015 09:43 AM

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

If it'll go 1.00 under I would be ecstatic! This combo has been beat to death for 40 years lol not the smartest to run a 396/375 hp alum head lol. More of a cool factor for me ,just want it to be respectable . It'll all be new so it'll take a lot of sorting out , but it'll be a lot of fun to drive!

I would really love to see you show up to one of the Stock Block Shootout Series races with this. Tire height and wheelie bar would be the only thing that would keep it from being legal.

See a lot of racer preferring the 29.5 inch Slick over the 30 inch.
Any particular reason?

I can tell you my experience with testing a 29.5 to a 29.90 Hoosier on my peanut port 467 in a 3720 pound Chevelle. The 29.5 was .002 quicker in the 60 foot and .007 quicker to the 660 and thats back to back, now this testing was done at high altitude and power is limited, 8000 plus DA, 24.95 Baro, the 29.90 is slower on my car.

Do you have any photos of the new car? Very interested in your new endeavor.

What are the plans for the old car with the new owner? I'm assuming not a Stocker since they didn't buy the engine too?
