Re: C4 Corvette build for Superstock I-J-K
Thanks guys, I appreciate all the kind words. Ed is correct on the SS/I class. I did run it in GT/J at the sports, Stephen Belanger and I decided to run each other versus the combo. I realize it wasn't a good trade off weight vs. index, but that okay. We actually had a pretty good race.

Attention: Larry Woodfin, I never heard back as to whether or not you found these pictures. I know you visit the build segment, so here it is.
My son David, just finished his portion of David Tinchers 1995 Corvette build. He made many changes to this Corvette verses mine. I might be able to get some pictures of it, if you need some other ideas for your build. I am pleased with the running of my Corvette. I did finally get down the track at a 9.52 @ bowling green last of August. I am pleased with that and have hopes of my L-98 being better. I still have the LT-1 in it. Happy New Year Ernie Neal SS 354 |

Re: C4 Corvette build for Superstock I-J-K
not sure how I missed this. Amazing car and give me lots of ideas for mine, should I go super stock with it. The front brakes are cool.

Re: C4 Corvette build for Superstock I-J-K
Chad, I appreciate the comments.
The Mark Williams brakes are not offered. Let me know if you go this route. I can direct you to parts and pieces. There is a custom spindle involved and some water-jet pieces I drew up on acad and David Tincher cut them out for me. The company he works for does custom cutting. We dropped the spindle almost 1/2" while in the process. I can tell you what brake kit to order also. Tincher had a bracket Corvette once and used Aerospace on it, but really likes the Mark Williams. My son just completed a build for David Tincher and they utilized these brakes as well. They made a lot of changes to their build. It is way cool. It should be ready for the beginning of the 2018 season. I have more photos, that could be shared. I had that open heart surgery 1 year tomorrow and took time to get these posted during that down time. I'm glad I built it. I also have an L-98 engine, that will go in sometime this season. Re: C4 Corvette build for Superstock I-J-K
Dude I need to put you on a plane to Denver and turn you loose on my car and dial in the combo for me! 67 camaro 327, same class but at least I know I got the right tires on it! Same hoosiers you run.

Re: C4 Corvette build for Superstock I-J-K
Hi Ernie,
Wow - this was a good thread to look at. Ive been racing a C4 for about 18 years and did a semi 4 link years ago that bolted in. I used a 12 bolt and at the time had a 434sbc that went a best of 9.7@136. However a few years ago after that sbc blew I put in a 555 n/a and been racing that for last 3 years. Detuned it goes 9.0@153. My car is still all stock inside with moly cage of course and has power everything yet. Even the stereo is still in it. With the 12 bolt even detuned I usually go through a ring and pinion at the most inopportune time (semis). So this winter I plan to put some big tires and let it really eat. If I turn it up it usually goes about 1.26 60fts but it really taxes the rear. I plan on a 9inch. https://photos.app.goo.gl/11zbNSXrPnix6oN39 The car is used for bracket racing and where I have it detuned it works great but I am wanting to get it more realiable. So basically I am cutting apart a perfectly good car that works like a zerox machine. Few questions. Do you have some more detailed photos of the area around where the frame connects. I have seen several of these cars done with the crossmember just tied in straight across. I plan to reinforce mine with some 45 degree tubes also tied into the frame adjacent to where the seats are (drivers hip) area. https://photos.app.goo.gl/Fb3jaZaLpHYfp6XZ8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/2CvFpAyY3BvJSynX7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/8DgfeTS41WRowZHZ7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/M9iEbPvnXgfqyaXM9 I am planning on Hoosier 18300 and weld Alpha 1 15x15 wheels. What size did you go with? I figure I am going to go a little overboard as I dont wan this thing to even think about spinning - some of the tracks we race get a little hairy late in the rounds when the dew sets in. |

My son has since built one for David Tincher. He used a crossmember straight across and trianglulated a bar inside the floor. I use a 29.5X11.5W, They run a radial on Tinchers car. Ernie Neal SS 354 #1 Qualifier U S Nationals 2017,18,19 |
Re: C4 Corvette build for Superstock I-J-K
I am reffering to the area around where the stock 4 link brackets bolted in. Just inside of that area I have seen people run the crossmember straight across to other side. I see you really chopped that area away.
Straight across is what I planned on doing and then to further reinforce it put two 45degree bars up to the frame rail area adjacent where your outside left hip would be if you were sitting in the drivers seat of the car. The other bar would be your passengers outside right hip area. I already have a slick way to hold up trans and not compromise ground clearance. I plan on just utilizing that way with the new build. |
