Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Danny,
I will begin posting engine build photos soon. Just a few weeks away from assembly and checking and installing. During the project planning I considered all the common SBC packages. While several are proven and capable of winning I settled with the package that uses a Holley carb. I chose the 327/300 for the 1966 Corvette [and others] that allows the superseded Quick Fuel 585 carb. I got with Gary Hettler for heads and intake. In addition, Gary has been a key resource for engine parts selection. He has a combination of proven parts that will give good performance without trying to re-invent a package. I will do the final mock up and final assembly. While dyno testing is an option, the initial testing will be on-track. If it performs acceptably the focus will be refining the package to win races. The race ready truck will be about 3255 pounds with driver and fit in GT/TC with an index of 11.10. I expect the truck to qualify well and be capable of winning. Some of the parts: *Dart SHP block with BBC cam bearings and .904 lifter bore *Mile High Crankshaft race prep w/.012 long stroke *Manley rods *Bill Mitchell piston forgings worked by REBCO machine *Total Seal .043 x .043 x 3mm *Comp Cams special SS 327 grind *T & D Rockers *041 heads by Gary Hettler *Victor E intake by Hettler *Quick Fuel carb, pump, regulator More info and photos soon. |

I like simple items that are also very useful. We have two race cars fitted with these connectors. In addition, the clamps can plug on so the charger goes both ways.
The jumper wires for connector to battery are both 4 gauge, because of the lighting the black looks smaller. |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
I am poised for another good round of progress. The next two weeks will bring completed wiring, completed plumbing, and engine building post.

Hey Dragsinger, your build is looking good ! A quick question .. . I know with Jeffie's computer programming expertise he'll be able to redial in a heartbeat for you but have you considered the possibilities of bringing the finished weight of car and driver down just a little ? I'm wondering if you'd have just a bit more flexibility if you dropped the weight from the interior say 50-75 pounds ? Just wondering....BTW looking Good !

Billy,
I agree, a fluid interior is an excellent goal. |

These photos show the Rollmaster adjustable timing set. plus making ready the setup to find TDC and degree the cam and verify the damper timing mark.
My degree wheel and pointer have many builds to their credit. I estimate having used them for about 40 years :) |
Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series
Never mind. Nice build.
