Dwight, this sounds like a good subject for it's own thread. I think that you have an excellent idea there for helping "underprivileged" and "entry level" racers get going. NHRA would have to rework it's AHFS to make it more reactive to the combos that wind up being accidently too soft though. A year between reviews is too long.

Should anybody oppose such an idea?

How about a report here? Headers help? Hurt ,etc ? Driver impressions?
That dam carburetor?

Re: Under the index for under a grand!

Geez, talk about ungrateful cars! I brought it home from Cecil 2 years ago and parked it in the field and when I went to use it, I had to put a new battery AND spark plugs in it! But, now that I think about it, the battery and plugs weren't new 2 years ago when I put them in.
At any rate, I had an "NHRA Newbie" in the car this weekend. Wayne is one of those fast street car guys so he's no stranger to racing, just to NHRA racing. The car seemed to like the headers and the dammed carb for the first 1/8th of the track but no matter how I jetted it it didn't want to run in high gear. I think that I'm getting into some kind of a float-drop issue(for lack of a better term) when it gets into high gear. It's not running out of gas but it's going dead lean to the point of lean misfiring. The 60' and 1/8th times were pretty good but no matter what I did, it was off at least 6 MPH. For the 1st rd, I raised the float much too high and it just didn't go anywhere.
Oh well, back to the drawing board!

I'm fighting this exact same problem and its frustrating. Changed springs, fuel system, float levels, big needles, C11 does help, but in the end Tina is right, its the camshaft. :) Now the trick is a balance of decent low end and acceptable high end. 11.60 @ 107 popping all the way ain't gonna work. Probably gonna give Comp a try and I'll let you know how it compares to the violent Bullet lobe.

It's always the cam....................or the converter. Then again, maybe it's just me! I'll get it figgered out.
