Today was the most horrific experience I've had in some time. Began painting the front fenders on sawhorses and pretty much immediately the paint cup top came off. I was kneeling and the bulk of the paint went in my lap and down one arm. To cap it off I had numerous runs which I will have to deal with later. I'll need to pick up some more paint and hardener Tuesday to have enough to finish up the job. Plans are to shoot the hull mid week and put this junk back together next weekend...I'm pretty worn out from this job and looking forward to the end of it.

I can relate to your pain. I spilled a full cup in my garage when painting my car. It looked like a crime scene! I also said I would never ever paint again. It's a lot of work to have something that looks nice. Keep up the good work, you are making fast progress.

Got up early Thursday morning and got busy. Wet sanded the primer, fashioned a curtain under the car and shot the car in under three hours...all without a single run thank goodness!

Never fear about the black tail omission at this juncture...I did not like how it turned out initially so I sanded and re-primered the tail section. Figured out it would be easier for me to do it last with some good striping tape I recently picked up. I will bolt the front clip, hood and deck lid on Saturday afternoon adjusting gaps in preparation for final wet sanding and additional paint coats.

Question for the paint guru's here...how long should I wait after final paint to wet sand and buff this single stage urethane? The car is sitting inside a shop where temps reach 95-100 degrees daily when closed. Any finishing tips would be appreciated.

Theoretically you should be able to wet sand and polish Sunday or Monday (2-3 days after spraying). That all depends on the paint, if it is still "green" or rubbery then it is not ready yet. We bake all of our refinishes and base/clear we can polish about 3 hours if need be once out of the booth, we usually wait until the next day. The single stage we use actually needs about 2-3 days before we even consider wet sanding and polishing, because even though it has been baked (160 degrees for 25 minutes) it still has the rubbery feel to it (slightly sticky to the touch). The semi gloss or flat finishes need about 5 days to cure before they are handled regardless on if they have been baked or not. For reference sake we use Sikkens products, I don't know what you are using.

I'm using PPG Omni acrylic urethane Dion. 1500 grit wet sand between coats sound ok?

probably over kill, for base/clear we will sometimes use 800 grit wet, but actually prefer 500 grit on a precision orbital sander, and red scothbrite for the edges. Our single stage jobs we usually paint over 320 grit with great success. Everyone will have their own opinion ,but if 1500 works for you keep on keeping on!

I have used the ppg Omni in the past it is decent, user friendly

the 500 grit on the orbital would be used dry, fwiw

Thanks Alan - I get the privilege of assembling the front clip and aligning all those joints today lol...probably going to be a greater task than the paint work hehe.
