Your bullet looks good, Larry. I can almost hear it singing to 10,000 rpm already! Amazing how the looks of the carb changed from the engine stand to the engine bay!

Danny,

It will be some what short of 10,000 RPM yet I expect the song to be sweet.

Being only a bracket racer I have a question about your build. You have the motor plate between the motor and the timing cover and the water pump. Do you have any problem with leaks?

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

Robbie,

The motor plate install is a common method. It is not part of the timing cover, it is cut out around the timing cover and does not interfere with it.

It uses a set of water pump gaskets on each side of the plate, no problems at all. Many drag race cars and most all dragsters will have such a setup.

I like it in the case of a factory frame build up because it adds the effect of another crossmember. The front plate combined with a rear plate add overall stiffness to the front section. Also, I have not posted the photos yet, there is a "travel limit strut" on each side of the engine. Keep watching and you will see those soon.

Because the Super 10 uses fender well exit headers engine mounts do not matter in ref to header clearance. However, with under car headers that hug the engine block using a front and rear plate and eliminating the side mounts can help header fit.

Thanks for watching and please stay tuned :)

Thank you for answering me. Now I understand how it works and I went back in the build and saw the cut outs for the timing cover. Very cool build! This is one Very Cool truck.

Saturday morning team member Monte came in to begin the bed cover job. We made progress with all aluminum angle fitted and bolted in.

The last photo is the beginning of a panel template. We will use .040 white aluminum in approximately three equal pieces with the last panel hinged for battery and fuel service.

Re: Woodfin's SS GT/TB construction series

Racers and supporters,

I had something happen that temporally took the wind out of my sails.

The Super 10 radiator has been stolen! I confess that more than once I accidentally left the storage area unlocked. [it will never happen again]

So far, I have been unable to wrap my mind around the happening. The same storage area contained a number of shiny, expensive parts, tools, extension cords, jacks, etc. Yet only the radiator was taken.

It was a Ron Davis radiator with AN fittings and fan and shroud. An expensive part, $600.00 +

I discovered it gone last Saturday. I have the word out, police report, etc.

Today, Thursday, I am becoming mentally adjusted to the theft. I take responsibility for leaving the storage area unlocked and have licked my wounds long enough. Tomorrow, back to work on the Super 10.

That radiator was removed from another buildup with the intention of going on the Super 10. Now my plan is to install a stock replacement style radiator. My warehouse sent one over and it looks just right setting in the factory mounts.

So we move forward.

More photos and more comments soon.

More Saturday progress,

Monte working his magic with patterns for the bed cover.

Also note;

*decal for last panel

*stainless piano hinge

The rearmost panel will have two quick buttons allowing it to open and lay on the second panel. Then with the tailgate down we have good access to battery and fuel.
