Not probably my favorite, but I had this CD on in the garage yesterday as I was putting the motor back in the car. Been on the dyno and out of state the last couple days,...
This entire album is quite good. Her back up singer on this cd was Cheryl Crow, before Crow hit it big ..

When was this song originally released? There's a clue in the lyrics.

Johnny Rivers (born John Henry Ramistella; November 7, 1942) and still working...and NOT in the R&R Hall of Fame...but Madonna is :-(

Mark, the lyrics make reference to the Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band released in mid 1967. I guess Summer Rain was released shortly after...gsa612

Yup I got out of active duty 1st week of November, 67..Driving my 63 GP home from Fort Knox , across PA, all night long... must have heard that song every hour on WABC, New York.
By the way , the amazing strings and horns on the original were arranged by Marty Paich...father of David Paich , TOTO.

How bout a little sax to wake us up. You guys probably don't listen to much jazz but have a listen to Ernie Watts on this sax .... He's kind of a John Force of that instrument ...

Johnny and Jimi both touched a chord in all of us. Listening to them we all had soul and were a single color. In our best days we still are and music ushers in where it can be that way every day.

Appreciate this thread so much, keep it up guys.

Cruising around Kingman, Arizona waiting for my draft number to be called. Used to listen to KOMA out of Oklahoma City and Wolfman Jack, broadcasting out of Mexico.

Yep, it was folksy but given it was the era of "muscle cars" and good rock and roll...we made due.

Tony Hicks never got his due acclaim, as a multi-instrumentalist, IMO

Re: Musical Tastes

Really hard to pick two, from the first four albums.

The first one , obviously ,for the drag racing intro and outro

The second, for it's contribution to the American lexicon, although I'm sure a lot of "classic rock" fans never knew that.

"The style and personnel of the band changed radically with The Joker (No.  1, 1973), concentrating on straightforward rock and leaving the psychedelic blues side of the band behind. The title track, "The Joker", became a No.  1 single and was certified platinum, reaching over one million sales. It was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA on January 11, 1974.[8]" From Wiki...and where I leave the building...

That is really funny but true.....LMAO
I didn't care for the anti-establishment music when I "got back to the world"....in fact, I went to the barber and got a buzz cut when I got back to my hometown.

Later got used to groups like CCR and liked them.

Another funny one. I've posted other songs off this album. Double album that the entire thing was great ..

https://youtu.be/3zEuaYnavwk

See that girl, watch her dance
If I knew her name I wouldn't have to sit on my hands
If my mouth don't work I get some help
And she don't mind if I don't keep my hands to myself

(You're all right)
(You put up such a good clean fight)
(I'm afraid that you lose tonight)
S - l - u - t
She may be a slut but she looks good to me
S - l - u - t
She may be a slut but she looks good to me

You're so clean, so refined
You don't care to get messy just to have a good time
She's got saggy thighs and baggy eyes
But she loves me in a way I can still recognize

(You're all right)
(You put up such a good clean fight)
(I'm afraid that you lose tonight)

S - l - u - t
She may be a slut but she looks good to me
S - l - u - t
She may be a slut but she looks good to me

(You're all right)
(You put up such a good clean fight)
(I'm afraid that you lose tonight)

S - l - u - t
She may be a slut but she looks good to me
S - l - u - t
She may be a slut but she looks good to me

S - l - u - t
She may be a slut but she looks good to me

She may be a slut but she looks good to me

I Heard it Through the Grapevine...Written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong (Money) , for Motown records, in 1966.
From Gladys Knight , to Marvin Gaye, to this unlikely cover by CRR, @ 11 minutes on the Cosmo's Factory album :
