Im making it look like a 79 Cobra. I like the 2 tone paint. It looks much better in the pictures. I'm hoping sanding and buffing helps. Not to bad for my 1st time painting..

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

I'm betting sanding and buffing will make a world of difference!

I thought I would go ahead and post an update. It's been a while. I have made a little headway. I got the dash repaired, painted and installed. I mounted the seats on the factory seat rails. They were too wide at 14 inches but I swapped them from inside to outside and they are only 9 inches wide. I mounted the seats on plate steel then mounted them to the rails. It came out real good. Nice and solid. Also got the brakes done. Nothing fancy but they work. I might up grade them later.

Well today was a good day and a bad day. I had a new windshield installed. But when I put the front rims on I found that they don't clear the SN95 front break calipers. I like my old school rims but I guess ill sell them and get different ones.

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

Well I read the rule book and wheel spacers are ok, so 1/2 in will fix the problem. Cheap fix.

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

Thanks Mark for your advice in the PM. I have a half sheet of Alum so I will get it done.

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

I forgot to mention carpet padding. A good idea to pick up a few yards from an upholstery wholesaler. You can make the whole deal lay nice and smooth with a little here, little there.
There must be one over your way. There's one in downtown Glendale.

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

Robbie there is a auto upholstery fabric store open to the public maybe 5 blocks south of I10 on 35 avenue on the west side of street. Not sure if that is closer to you.

Robbie, whats been going on ? Progress ? Just checking in..

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

Going very slow. Lot's of family things going on. Roll bar is done, most of the interior is done. It should be done by the end of the year. I just figured not to rush and "when it's done ,it's done" LOL. I have most of what I need it's just a time thing.

Dave Muller 09-07-2017 08:58 PM

Well I finally have something worth posting about.Motor and Tranny are done and installed. Headers are in. Interior is done except for a few things. It's taking a while but it's getting there.

Great to hear you're getting out into the garage again! There were so many times I almost put up a "Any hope of progress soon?" post here, but I knew you had a lot going on these days and didn't want to bug you too much.

But, that said, let's get that puppy out on the track soon!

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

Hey Dave, in the last week i got the front clip and back bumper back on. Mirrors on, gas door on, and even mounted the gauges. Busting Butt now but lots to do still.

Well I got some great news to share, after 3 years, selling 2 homes, buying a new home and moving, Kids moving in and out, and a heart attack, I finally fired the engine this weekend. I got a small air leak i need to find, i think, but i put about 15 minutes on the motor . Man it felt good to hear it run!
