In '68, some of the old Pontiacs still held nat records in several Stock classes.

Kevin Thomas’s car was a 74 gto, not a Lemans. It was purchased from Buddy King from Plainfield, In who held the record in m/s previously. Kevin sold the car to Mike McDonald (his first 74 gto). Kevin was from Petersburg, In.

Thanks for that info !

They made a misprint. Had it listed as a Lemans.

Guessing there are LOTS of mistakes in old NHRA records.

BY the way, any pics ya'll can add of any of the cars mentioned in this thread will be appreciated. Also, any current contact info for any of those who actually raced these cars might help us get more info and/or pics.

As with other brands, most of these old cars have been passed down & raced by several different owners.

In '75, Mick Leiferman held the G/SA record with his '71 GTO. His name was spelled Mike, on the list.

Charlene Wood held the I/SA record, with the Tons-A-Fun '72 Lemans wagon. Her name was spelled Sharleen, on the list.

Here's a change of pace. It's a 1973 Pontiac 4-door heavyweight. These are the only pics I've ever seen of this car.

It was named the "Tijuana Taxi". It ran T/SA. Had Vaughn / Marvosh on the front doors. Driven by Dave Marvosh.

Don't know what engine that would have been. But, it won a race at Columbus, with a 16.56 @ 70.69 mph.

Also was featured in a Motor Wheel ad.

With a magnifying glass, I think I can read "National Record Holder 1974", on the roof. Not sure. Anybody have more info/pics for this car ?

You'll notice For Sale signs on it. Unless I have my stories mixed up, I think Dave Katt borrowed the car & won class at the US Nats. Someone correct me, if that's wrong.

Names & paint jobs on drag cars have always been interesting, to me.

Here's a 007 Pontiac. Wonder how many cars used that name, back when the James Bond movies 1st got popular ?

I've mentioned the Acre Maker cars, which the Moore family raced. I think the Dad, Roland Moore, was driving the big car when the Indy pic was taken.

Then we have a big Pontiac with a red/white, candy-stripe top.

And, of course, a tiger stripe. Assume it was orange.

Just listened to the podcast interview of Rock & Ginny Running.

It was great ! I give it a 10.

Rock mentioned several Pontiacs he had. For those who don't know, his 1st really competitive dedicated Stocker, was a '74 GTO. He only ran it in '74, then sold it to Dave Pruden.

He then bought a '71 T-37, which he raced from '75 - '82. Won his 1st nat event, in the T-37, at the Spring Nats in Columbus, in '81. Sold it to Ken Shawver. Then Danny Ashley had it. Has changed hands several times. I think Don Turk has it now. All Rock's cars were named "Super Sleeper". Said one of his kids came up with the name, back when he had a big, heavy, slow, Pontiac, which I think was a '66 Cat.

Ginny said she never missed a race, & always kept records of what Rock did each pass, as well as what his competition did. Rock credits Ginny & her detailed records with much of his racing success.
