Enjoy your posts. Just curious about your clutch linkage, are you using the O.E. linkage? Have you changed the pedal ratio?

Thank you.

Yes Greg stock type Z-bar extended with multiple holes for ratio change options, and stock fork. I can get you pictures if you need to see it. Certainly not perfection and could be improved upon but effective none the less.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Thanks for the reply. I have about a 4:1 pedal ratio and the pedal is quite stiff. The pedal feel is about the same with either a SoftLok or diaphragm style clutch. I have a new Z-bar on order that I plan to modify to increase the ratio.

Greg, We have multiple attachment points on the pedal as well as the z-bar on both ends to change for throw and leverage. I put the whole mounted clutch/flywheel unit in a press with a magnetic base dial indicator and measure how much movement at the TB/levers it takes to unlock the disc and how much to get any given disc air gap. Then you know exactly what the linkage needs to do and how the pedal stop should be adjusted. Shorten the pedal throw to quicken reaction and lengthen the throw to slow reaction.

I ordered the wrong filter adapter, so if you're hunting for one, don't do this. I bought the 23691 Moroso and it's for an oil cooler only. I need the 23690 so it will run filtered oil through the accumulator. If you're gonna be dumb ya gotta be tough! Here's the wrong one.

Got a few thing done today... distributor goes in like butter now no more tearing o-rings, carb and fuel lines, got some new plugs in and some other little stuff. Also since we are going to pull the plugs a lot for after run oil and a couple (plugs) are a bear I ordered these nifty little plug sockets for the tight ones.

All things about this thread are positive!! It's a good build. Todd has been very open about what he is doing and how he is doing it. He has answered questions when asked about various aspects of the proceedings. The photo documentation is great.

And probably the most positive thing, he and Autumn are doing it as a family!! I, for one, will follow their progress and racing adventures through the year. Best of luck, and keep up the good work!

Todd - those plug sockets look handy! Who's the manufacturer?

Curt, I appreciate your take on this. I hope everyone takes something positive from this, learning from my mistakes, the fun of the build, the sport and the people.

We got it all wrapped up this morning, fired off on the first click of the starter, ran it for 30 seconds and re-checked the valves and found 1 that needed tightened up. Big difference in this setup and oiling to the top VS the last setup. Ran cam break-in for 30 minutes, tomorrow morning I'll check on the new driveshaft and at some point we'll swap rockers.

This is a first class build ...my only disappointment is that whatever TOOL that was used to cut the rear carpet around the roll bar.....it needs to be retired....or better yet...send it to HP HUNTER ....

Hi Bob,
Back about 50 years ago, when I was a Chevy guy, I took a 1/2” drive spark plug socket dropped a spark plug in let it come out through the 1/2” drive hole. The socket needed to be broached to the bottom of the socket, marked the socket to still be engaged with the hex on the plug and cut off the excess. Started the plug by hand, slipped the cut down socket over the plug with the insulator sticking through the 1/2” drive hole. Used either a box or open end wrench to finish tightening up the plug...I should have got a patent so Snap On could pay me royalties

I truly appreciate it ya'll, I'm amazed this has gone on this long and even moreso, the welcoming we've had thus far. 500k views is a very cool stat for sure and it isn't over yet! Can't wait to get to orlando and race, relax and have some fun. I love seeing all the pictures associated with all the builds and here are some fun pictures not completelly build related but fitting for my buddy and our 500k milestone.

It's so great to be back at the track, even though it's only been a few months. I tried a new clutch setup and totally missed the mark, spinning all over the place. Worked last night getting closer to what we needed and although not perfect at least we got down twice today.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Weekend wrap up! We had a super fun weekend seeing everyone after a few months of down time. So we show up with a completely different plan as to how we'll set the car up, and thats because the only way to get this car to run previously was to gain as much momentum as possible before high gear or it would lumber along and not run. So, instead of leaving at 6200-6400 we chose 5800-6000 and ended up even trying 5600 which they all worked except for one small problem... I had the clutch way too tight. In the middle of this we decided to put fresh tires on just to eliminate any possibility of them hindering our progress. (see above video :D) Now after a couple crappy passes of spinning we realize something just isn't right and a phone call to Cale Aronson confirms... I'm retarded. Thursday night we make wholesale changes to the clutch and Friday's runs although not spectacular we see a tremendous improvement. Now I'm assuming the car will run faster the harder we run it so I'm pretty happy that even though we've lowered the launch and shift RPMs it ran well. We'll make some clutch and engine adjustments and test at the D2 SGMP race in 2 weeks.
