Thanks,

Does anyone know what happened to Bobby Harrop's A990?
I understand he won either his class or SS eliminator at Indy then promptly sold the car to focus on the AWB car....Flying Carpet.

Jim, I'm not sure but it looks like the '65 A990 sedan was slowly converted to an injected A/FX...looks like he sold it to someone else, while he built his '65 A/FX AWB hardtop.

Harrop's car was sold to a guy named Mike Hammer from New Jersey, who was a sales manager for a Pontiac dealer. He ran the car with little success for a year or two and then it disappeared. I remember Harrop was booked in to Englishtown for a match race using his current car, broke it and borrowed his original car back from Mike to run the race.
He put his injectors and tires on it and picked it up a full second.
I think that's when Mike decided to sell it.

Re: A990 Super Stockers

The High Adventure was sold to Craig Jackson of Barret-Jackson. I bought it directly from him stil painted as the High Adventure Car. I traded it to Engelhart to get the Velvet Hammer Car. The High Adventure is in Iowa. I talked to the current owner and have been meaning to sent him my information. The contract between Jackson and Mike Bogina.

John Labuse,The Laboose Cabosse became the High Adventuure car.
The serial # is RO51187247 was sold new as I recall in Montana.

Jared, Rich Johnson tells me you are Harry Holtan's grandson. I own the Valvet Hammer car. The history on the car is it was sold new at Thompson Motors in Chillicothe Missouri raced as the Mad Polock sold to Henry Brom in Minnesota raced as the Velvet Hammer. Henry died in the 90's, it when to John Becker and I bought from him. It is restored.

Charlie,

Yes, my claim to fame as it were is being Harry's grandson. I love that guy, what more can I say?

I saw the picture of your car and thought it looked real similar to ours. I'm partial to red Belvederes!

By restored, do you mean period correct? I.E. tubs removed, etc...?

Re: A990 Super Stockers

Jared, give my regards to your grandad. I met him a couple of times in Belle Rose. He is certainly one of the nicest guys in racing. I had him autograph an old National Dragster I had from 1969 that had an article of him winning a race at Fremont. The crew got a big kick out of that.

Your mom was putting together a spreadsheet of the parts they were selling. That was a couple of years ago, but I never heard anything back. I ran out of money anyway and I figure most of it is gone by now.

Does anyone here know what happened to the ex-John Hagen '65 A990 Plymouth Belvedere...it seems that it was repainted Red at some point and renamed...the car was in a wreck at a New York drag strip at some point, does anyone here remember that race or have anymore details on what happened exactly.

Hemi Moose. looks like the old Owensboro Ky. drag strip. I was only 16 at the time but i was writing a newspater column at the time to give out the weekends results in return for free admission. Sure was a great time back then with Paul Lance and the 64 and 65 Ky colonel cars on hand, and the Kentuckian another 65 hemi car.

All I know is I bought it from Donnie Chapman in WV about 10-12 years ago and prior to that it was titled to a guy from MN with a last name of Bucholz. Original Black car, good car.

There was a guy named Frank Johanson in New Jersey who had 2 Mopars in the mid 60's, both black, a Max wedge and a hemi, both called Huckleberry Hound. He sold them both to 1 person but I don't know who that was. He then bought a 69 COPO 427 Camaro for SS/DA, ran it for a few years and sold it. Here's a pic of the Camaro.

Re: A990 Super Stockers

Nice find Charlie, but I'm wondering if this was a real A990 car to start with according to this statement below...anyone here know for sure.

Quote:

This car was originally a "doner" car for an altered WB car built at Branster's shop for Roger Lindamood. The car was originally "given" to Ron Mancini as a body in white roller. Ron didn't do anything with it, he was building his 68 Dart and Hoover decided I could put it to good use. I got the car with a crashed 65 4 door car for $300 from Ron.
I put the car together with all my own stuff. Don't get me wrong, Allot of good people at Chrysler helped me learn real fast what I needed to know to screw a competitive car together and have a shot.

Funny how the angle of a picture can throw off the idea I had already seen and posted that very car.
I read the restoration link.
What an outstanding effort!
From what they found to completed car......
I have done a restoration or two, or I thought I had.
Compared to that, I repainted something.
Post the link so the others can appreciate the work.

That is Jimmy Johnson from Monroe LA. I think he got it from Bill Gibbs in about 1981-2. Kept it a while then Ron Cheshire had it. Don't know what happened to it after that. It was a
990 car.

The Cheshire Dodge is posted a few pics back (post #188). I took this picture from a website that showed both of them at the track at the same time(I believe).
Maybe there was more than one that wound up in Pine Bluff, Ark.

This is a picture of my great uncle Len Ford's Dodge he bought in 65. He sold Vanke's red "Tin Indian 1" to buy it. Anyone know about this car or what happened to it? My dad told me some stories about it being cut up but never knew what happened to it.
