Great project! i really don't understand just why there aren't dozens of 289s and 302s as well as all of the other manufacturers "econo" V8s being done.

Re: 79 Mustang project U/SA

Cuz everyone likes to go fast. IMHO.. Racing the fast cars costs Cubic $$$$...I just want to have fun.Slow car are fun too.

I feel exactly the same way. I just won't sell my soul to go racing. It's not worth it anymore.

Very true, but also many believe you have to go fast and be a chaser in order to win anything. Simply not true, right, Billy?

Well good news. I sorted out the motor problems (air leak) and it's running great now. Got the valve springs changed and tuned it in as best I can without driving it. I have next week off so Ill finish up all the little things left to do and plan on having it on track in Tucson Jan 1st.

Great news!

And that's a big part of why I aimed for a slower car myself, trying to keep the expense and maintenance work under control.

That's awesome Robbie! We hope to see you at some of the association races next year. The first two races are in Tucson January 12th and 13th.

We should be at the hangovers. I’ll try and stop by to check out the car now that it’s done.

Well i made my first, and only, pass in the car yesterday before the starter gave me fits. The car was lite at 2830 but it ran 14.29 at 90 mph. Im very pleased with it.Got to build a weight box and get that installed and sort out the starter. Felt great to finally get it to the track.

Still having starter issues. Put a new starter in and after a weekend of racing, it started hanging up again, Dummie me didnt put in a block plate in since I didnt have one for a 164 tooth flywheel. I installed one yesterday and it seams to have fixed the problem. lesson learned.
Best time so far on the Lite car is 13.98. Working on putting weight in it this week. Going to put in permanent weight to make -T- weight and a weight box to make -U-..I will for sure make one of the ASSSA races this year.

The car is 2830. Its 200 lite for U . I think it has to weigh 2887 for T so 70 lbs to be safe

Robbie,

The official name for the block plate is starter indexing plate.

Well I'm happy to report that I won this weekend at the Summit Series race in only my 3rd time out in the car. I added 70 lbs to the car to make it T weight. It weighed in at 2900 lbs. Best time was 14.11 and I have yet to play with the timing so there is more in it. I like this car already.

Well here we go, 1st class race this weekend. Ran the car at Vegas last weekend at -U- weight and ran 14.22 on a 15.11 index but the air was really good. Everyone was going fast. Got all the little things fixed so.....Lets see how I do.

Best of luck out at Wild Horse to you, and Kelly, and Jeff Stout. We all kind of built our cars at about the same time, I enjoyed watching the builds happen on this site--it kept me going hard on mine. You guys all got done ahead of me as far as reaching the index, I still got a ways to go. My transmission is currently getting beefed up a little with a lower first gear, some better clutches, and a fancy-dancy converter that I hope is about right. I'll be back in the swing next year I hope.
One of you guys better be top qualifier or in the final. It's expected of you.

Thanks for the kind words. I know I wont be top qualifier, but I have found a good spot on tree and weather station shows a pretty good ET pattern. Lets see how I fair. Haven't done a Div race in years only local stuff and some heads up street car stuff.

Thank you from me too. I will be happy if i'm in the top 10. I'm pretty sure there will be 2 U cars that will be faster than me.

Well I'll post my last post on this build now the car has completed. I had a blast. Ran -919 under and qualified 10th. Lost a close race to Nanette Stine in the 1st round. We killed the tree, her 006 to my .010. Double break out win.

In my way of thinking, if you want to race a slower /lower class car, you need to be good with the gas pedal and with the brake pedal.

Good luck, Robbie.I'm sure you'll do well.

Really frustrated with racing in general right now with the covid and all. Racing is going down the drain out here and I'm really bad about getting rid of something i cant use LOL. I can always buy another car but stocker racing aint cheep. In a little over my budget.
