Re: Nova stocker project.
Sure would like to have seen what that big ol' gauge was doing during the dyno pulls. ;)

Re: Nova stocker project.
Bob Sherwood had rented the track at Onawa, Iowa for a test day. However, last Monday the state of Iowa came out with new mandatory limits for the number of people at outdoor venues. That put the kabosh to that deal. :(
The engine wasn't in yet and still on the engine stand. And there were a couple ideas we were kicking around, so...... https://i.imgur.com/semMHvTl.jpg |

The AFCO double adjustable front shock update was worth doing. Thanks to the guys at AFCO for working with me on the valving for my application. :)

Re: Nova stocker project.
We hit two important goals this season.
With the G/SA index being 12.00 (uncorrected), any run in the 10's would both get the car in the '1 Second Under Club' as well as being it's first pass in the 10's. We were close earlier this season at Earlville, Iowa, running 11.04. At Pierre, S.D. it went 11.155 on the altitude corrected 11.15 index. After the front end tweaks and more digging for whatever crumbs we could find, it responded some more. Again at Earlville over Labor Day, it went 10.955 on Q1, 10.947 on Q2 and two 10.96's in eliminations. https://i.imgur.com/PGOnBrIh.jpg |
Re: Nova stocker project.
Happy to see you got it flying . I got mine out to two races in the last month after a 2 year hiatus with health issues. Had nothing but trans issues that had started back in 18. I had rebuilt the trans but never got to test it till now. Same problem was there in mid August. Went through the trans again and could not see anything really wrong other than some slightly marred teeth on the sliders. Went to last race of the year for us and problem was still there. Made for a long tow home. Sitting at work Monday night I suddenly realized what the problem was. I put the shift levers on incorrectly. Made 1st gear actually 2nd and so on. So I was actually trying to downshift on launch and third was forth. What a @@ I am. Oh well , now time to get ready for next season with a new trans and clutch. Sorry for ramblin on.

Re: Nova stocker project.
It was a bittersweet day yesterday as the car went to it's new owner. We accomplished more than I ever thought we could. If anyone would have told me in 2014 that we would eventually put the car in the 10's on the 12.00 index, I would have laughed at them. Lots of great people over the last years have helped...some more than they realize. :)
-Kevin Nyhus: A great brother that really loves racing. -Steve Koppien: You opened your shop and gave me the benefit of your experiences. -Matt Steen & Jason Verke @ Victory Engines: Killer good engine work and advice. -Bob Sherwood: You were generous with your dyno and your time. -Gene Bichlmier: Helping find the "crumbs" we know are there. -John McLeod: Thanks for your positive energy. -Jim Marshall: Your long distance advice means a lot. -Ron Roddel: Paying it forward..helping me in so many ways. Rest in peace, my friend. Thanks to everyone for everything! :) -Al https://i.imgur.com/Nc8B1r6l.jpg |

Al thanks for letting us be included along in your journey I have enjoyed it. Hope this doesn’t mean an end for you but just an opportunity for another adventure.

Not sure what the future holds....we'll see what opportunities life puts in front of me. There's one Stocker project out there that just needs me to rescue it. ;) But it's mired down and slowly circling the drain, unfortunately. :( And I'm toying with a couple ideas for combos that are totally off-the-wall. Thanks for everything, Jim. :) -Al |
Re: Nova stocker project.
Al,
Can you say who bought your car? I’ve always admired the way you check out every detail looking for more power. I’m sure whatever project you decide will see a lot of improvement. |
Re: Nova stocker project.
Alan it was very educational to watch your build come to fruition, great content followed it from the beginning. Keep us informed on your next project and bring us the great content you did before!
I sold my bracket Nova (74) that had been a racecar since 1975. Even have the 1974 license plate on first register. Had a box of receipts documenting the build from day 1. Even though the car is not far away I did go over and see it the other day..LOL |
