Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
When I read that Mr. Hill would be racing a Saturn, I asumed it would at least be a turbo Sky. You have to admire a man who travels across the country to compete against the big dogs with what appears to be a stock Saturn SL2?! I can't wait to see if that little car can slay some giants!

Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
I'm going to remove hose on bottom of tank, drain tank, found a tee and a ball valve, install them in the line with hose clamps. Contacted a muffler shop close to the track and having them make a pipe to replace cat with a pipe and a bung for an O2 sensor
The best news I've had today is from the "Dog Pound" in La. Cooter used to bracket race one of these cars and has a computer to plug in that is three tenths quicker than the stock program. It will be in Vegas Wednesday. Bill, I will leave nothing at the trailer. |
Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
Larry is that thing a 2.2 motor, if so it about the same thing my boys raced in sport compact dirt cars. I my be able to help you out a little bit. One tip is to get rid of the air cleaner . Also have them make the pipe bigger than stock. If it is a 2.2 I could get a header shipped to you to use, cobalts use the 2.2 and it looks like it has variable valve timing. Tom 402-329-6795

Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
I am from Kentucky, we had some time zones, and things. Daylight savings, moon-this moon-that, but I really can't remember April First being this late in the year. God I love Kentucky!
|
Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
I am also from Kentucky. I have seen it all but for the life of me I can't figure out how James Perrone is Pams brother and Jim Marshall is his dad. Shouldn't they have the same last name ?
|
Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
MJ, somebody tried to explain that to me one moonlit evening at a hogwash, but somehow I really can't remember the rest.

Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
Perrone, you come from Aliens, big eyes, triangle face and all. You are one of those people who was taken aboard the space ship and had medical procedures done on and you don't remember. I am trying to help you understand the universe as it pertains to you and your family; adopted, manufactured, or otherwise. This is what happens when you are waiting for the water to go down.

Nick, its only because I like him. I have been trying to teach him how to gently stir controversy, but sorta a slow learner. Tomorrow everyone arrives in Las Vegas, Tech Wed., and new sources of controversy. Peronne, read this; you got two days to warm up. I am looking for big things from you. Happy to report the water from the pesky remnants of Hurricane Patricia are returning to the Gulf of Mexico. Thank God and Greyhound she's gone.

Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
Well we left the campground at 10 this morning after dumping and filling up with water. Our original plan was to stop at the Flying J, fuel up, get rigs washed at the Blue Beacon and stay there til in the morning. Then we found out that Allen Sherman was staying in the parking lot at Mandalay Bay on the Strip. So we tried to find them and got all turned around and lost, so we heard there were rigs in a lot at the track, so we headed there. It was the same lot that used to have the wild west leave on the morning of parking. So we were about the 8th or so rig there, and 9.10. and 11. So we got out our chairs and poured an evening cocktail when nice Miss Sally from NHRA and the racetrack came by and said we had a choice. We could start out at #101 or go back down the road to the Cannery Casino to their truck parking. So we chose to go gambling! We got parked and went in and had a nice little buffet and played a little and now we are ready for bed!!
I took a few pics on the road today that I will post a little later. We plan to be at the track at 7:00 am and not a minute earlier or we were told we would have to circle around until 7. Somehow, NHRA needs to realize that when you drive 1700 miles, you have to allow a little extra time in case there is a problem. As much parking as there is around the facility here, surely one lot somewhere could be made available for early risers. Seen so far is Brian Cour who is here in this lot where we are along with Billy Nees and Doug Chervanik. Also Pete Peery opted to go ahead and get parked and be # 101 or so. |

Larry, I think you might reassess that 1700 mile number.

Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
We are parked, set up and already had our first run to Walmart and In and Out Burger!!! Lots of rigs in already and still parking, I think til 6. If you are not here yet, the place to turn in for Sportsmen parking is closer to the interstate than I remember, but I might be wrong. They said that gate will be open 24/7 and is the same gate we use all weekend. I'm going to take a ride around the pits and hopefully see people I haven't seen since we were here 2 years ago.
More later! |

The reality of not having anyone to cover for me at work is hitting hard this morning as I would have been flying out to Vegas earlier this morning to join you guys. So MANY thanks for all you live reporters on this sea to shining sea tour and I look forward to all the race photos and coverage to come. Everyone be safe and good luck racing.

Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
Bob, Doug and Billy are pitted in front of us. Quality help is only a few steps away. We spent a little time yesterday looking at what could be done on the induction system that might help it go just a little quicker.
I don't think that there is a bad pit spot at this track. The Red Man team has been working well in advance of all of us racers. Every pit spot has been marked and with 597 entries expected all will be used. Tech and parking today. Thursday one hit for S/SS and straight into class. |
Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
Well looks like the Cat is out of the bag! Trick or treat=April's fool, doesn't it! I guess nobody will ever believe anything Larry says again! But we do have the Saturn with us! Thanks to all who offered ways to pick up our little blue car. But we have always been fond of pink!! Many thanks to Jeff for the loan of his pretty pink car! It is being re-numbered as I write this. Hopefully Larry will do well with it the next 3 races.
Well today is tech day and clean the motorhome day. After I finish with that, I will go out making pictures. More later. |
Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
Let the record show that I was the first one (much earlier in the thread) to debunk this whole Saturn deal. Anyway, there is no way Larry could fit in the Saturn with a helmet on.
In any case, have a blast! Pink rules! |
Re: "Live" from our sea to shining sea tour 2015
To all of our devoted readers: Just passing along that Bobby Warren is currently in Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He had a scheduled surgical procedure this morning to replace a valve and to do one by-pass. He will be in ICU for a few days, but the doctor reports that he successfully completed his procedures this morning. Please keep Bobby and his family in your prayers.. Alice
