Your thread..You can exclude whoever you want, but it doesn't say V8 in the heading ;-)

I've had two Sunbirds. "Buff Daddy" Carr won class at Indy in both of them. One had a N/A 1.8 Pontiac OHC 4 cylinder and the other had a turbocharger on the same motor. That turbo car could be evil to drive. It went 13.70s at over 100 MPH a million years ago in BF/SA.

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers

Continuing now with '71-'72 Birds, especially looking at the '71-'72 Formy that Scott Burton drove, then later Brad Burton drove, I assume.

As of early 2005, Scott was still driving it. On the Phoenix Q-list he was #12 @ 1.010 under. John Schloe was #4 @ 1.110 under, in his '69 Bird. Larry Maxwell & Ryan Schloe were also on the list with their '71 Birds.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Scott went 4 rounds, but lost in the quarterfinals to the event winner.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

The early Vegas race was loaded with Pontiacs. Bob Mulry was on top @ 1.468 under. Scott was #3 @ 1.312 under. John Schloe was #18 @ 1.171 under. Bryan Philips was #23 @ 1.134 under. There were at least 4 more Pontiacs on the list. When an '80 or '81 Bird is listed, I don't know whether it has a 301 Pontiac engine, or a 305 Chevy engine.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

OK, at the Mile High Nats, Brad Burton is listed as the driver. He was #12 @ 1.183 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Brad also won his E/SA class.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

At the fall Vegas race, Scott was driving. Bob Mulry was #1 @ 1.507 under. Bryan Phillips was #3 @ 1.363 under. Leo Glasbrenner was #7 @ 1.288 under. John Schloe was #12 @ 1.222 under. Scott was #14 @ 1.196 under. Don Elgin, Larry Maxwell & Ryan Schloe were also on the list. They may have had a small Pontiac party at that race. Anyhow, there were 3 '71-'72 Birds there.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Had 3 class winners: Byran Phillips, Bob Mulry, & Don Elgin.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Brad was driving in '06 at Phoenix. He was #21 @ 1.042 under. There were some interesting Pontiacs at this race. First is a Chris Denton '80 P/SA Bird. Don't know what engine it had, since it could have had several, including a 301T. Who knows what this car had ? Then Tony DeFrank is listed, in a '67 Bird. Did I dream this, or did somebody say that is the car Randi Lyn has now ? Tibor Kadar is listed, in a '77 Bird. Who has info on the car, & the drivers' connection with Pontiacs ? Leo Glasbrenner is also on the list, with his '68 Bird.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

The Burton Bird is not on the list, for the Spring Vegas race. But I HAD to post it. It's loaded with Pontiac power. Bob Mulry was #1 @ 1.566 under. John Schloe was #4 @ 1.309 under. Bryan Phillips was #7 @ 1.284 under. Leo was #17 @ 1.194 under. Chris Denton was #27 @ 1.104 under. Tibor Kadar was #43 @ 1.031 under. Larry Maxwell was #54 @ .996 under. Tony DeFrank was #57 @ .950 under. Ryan Schloe was #65 @ .898 under. Bill Edgeworth was #68 @ .889 under. Tony Janes is also on the list in a '72 Lemans. Don't know if that's a misprint, & his name is really James, or not . ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

How 'bout this list of class winners ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Now guys, even if you don't like Pontiacs, you'll have to admit that this was an awesome display of Pontiac Stocker performance ! :)

OK, both Brad & Scott were entered at Denver, Scott with a '71 Bird, & Brad with a '72 Bird. Scott was #3 @ 1.407 under. Brad was #10 @ 1.278 under. Tibor Kadar & Larry Maxwell were also entered.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott & Tibor won their class.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott got RU at this race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Well, the Burtons didn't make the Fontana race. But most of the other Pontiac guys did. And they put on quite a show. Bob Mulry was, once again #1 on the list @ 1.342 under. Wonder how many #1's he got with that car ? Maybe he'll chime in with that info(I hope).

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Had 3 class winners. In the E/SA final, Bryan Phillips beat Leo Glasbrenner by aprx 3". Don't know exactly how they figure that. Computer I reckin. Or maybe math, if you were good enuff.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

And Kadar won the race ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott made the fall Vegas race. He was #25 @ 1.125 under. Some Pontiacs finished ahead of him. Bryan Phillips was highest. Bill Edgeworth was there. His Bird was a record holder. Don't know what year or years. Anybody know ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Leo got to the semifinal, but lost a double breakout race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott made the final race at Pomona. He was #18 @ 1.084 under. Again, there were several Pontiacs higher on the Q-list. I noticed that here & at Vegas, Larry Maxwell had dropped down to H/SA. I assume he switched from the 455HO heads, to D-port heads.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Leo lost a double breakout final. :(

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Well, that wraps up the DRC file info from '06. I know this & similar posts are long, & many are not interested. But, the results of these races show the performance of Pontiac powered Stockers, during that time period. I couldn't be at any of those races. But I'm glad to be able to get a glimpse of what happened, from the records. So, anyone not interested can just not read 'em. But, for those who are, maybe they can get some enjoyment from them, as I have. And, putting a lot on one post saves a small amount of space, as compared to using many posts, with just a small amount of info on each. Hey, I hope somebody here is enjoying this look back into Pontiac Stocker history even half as much as I am. :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2000#indextop

At the '01 Mile-High race, he was also listed with the '73. Also, Larry Maxwell is on the list with a '72 Bird. Anybody have the info on this car, such as previous owner, next owner, etc ? He ran E/SA. So he had the 455HO engine. Wonder if this might be the car Brad later had, and maybe Scott converted the car he'd been running over to a '70 RAIV ? That body style could work for a '70, '71, '72, or '73, with only minor changes.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2001#indextop

I know that in recent years Scott & Brad have been running some of the West coast races. So, I checked out the '01 Winter Nats. Scott was not on the list. But, Bill Rink was on top of the list @ 1.300 under. Larry Maxwell was on the lsit with his E/SA '72 Bird. Near the bottom was Michael Moyer, with a '78 Bird. Bryan Phillips & John Schloe were also on the list.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2001#indextop

While out in that area, decided to check out the Phoenix race. Bill Rink was on top of this one too, and even further under, @ 1.384. Neil Smedley was 1.129 under, with his 301T '81 Bird.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2001#indextop

Scott did not make the '02 Winter Nats. Only Pontiac on the list is Bob Mulry @ 1.049 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

Scott did make the Phoenix race. This time he is listed with a '72. Ran 1.008 under. Neil Smedley was there, and a guy named Richard Desmond is on the list, with a '74 GTO.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

Scott & Bob Mulry were at Denver. Bob went 1.130 under, with his K/SA '74 Formy, & Scott went 1.084 under with his '72 Bird. I assume it was a Formy also, since the only Stocker Birds I've known the Burtons to race are Formy models.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

Scott also won class at this race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

In '03, Scott made the Phoenix race. Both he & John Schloe were 1.041 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

He made the 1st Vegas race that year. Slowed a little, to .941 under. Ahead of him, in Pontiacs, were Bob Mulry @ 1.115 under, Bryan Phillips @ 1.084 under, & John Schloe @ 1.065 under. Larry Maxwell was also on the list @ .714 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

At Denver, he was 1.151 under. Lee Bannister was on the list. He ran .741 under, with his H/SA '73 Formy.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

Scott was running F/SA at this race & won the class.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

Looks like they didn't run Stock at either Denver or the early Vegas Race, in '04. Don't know what the deal was there. Anyhow, Scott did make it to Fall Vegas race. Apparently, they had some real good air. Bob Mulry was #1 @ 1.544 under, Scott was #3 @ 1.312 under. He was listed with a '71 Bird, and moved up to D/SA. I assume that means that he had swapped in a 455HO engine. John Schloe was #7 @ 1.266 under. Don Elgin even went 1.060 under. Larry Maxwell is also on the list. And Shawn Kvaas, from Canada, is listed with a '77 Bird.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop

So, if I understand what I've seen, Scott's Bird would run close to a sec under, with both a D-port & a round port 455. And, Brad had not started driving it, as of 2004.

Well, that's enuff for now. BREAK ! :)

As I recall, that was the trip out west that I shouldn't have made. I picked up 8 HP on that junket.

Yeah, I'd thought about that. But then I thought about how many Chevy guys are doing real good with the little 305 sbc. So, I just assumed that maybe there'd be some out there who like the look of the Bird, but wanted a 305 engine. The '80 that I mentioned was the 2nd quickest Pontiac qualifier at some of the races I posted results for.

There's a guy in my hometown who bought an '81 T/A brand new. He got a 305 because he said that's the only way he could get the 4-speed he wanted. Don't have many miles. He brings it to the local car show occasionally. He also owns an original '77 Bandit Bird. A guy that raced with me one year, had it new. He'd drive it to my shop, to work on a '69 GTO bracket car we built for him.

Hey, that's just a little ancient Pontiac trivia for ya'll, free of charge. Probably won't mean anything to anybody but me. But, it's just a little bit of my Pontiac history.

I worked as a line mechanic in the mid to later 1970's at a local family owned Pontiac dealer... and worked on those Bandit Firebirds all the time......and occasionally someone brought in an earlier '70's SD Firebird along with many other cool cars.....

When Chris Ashley (Denton) drove the car, it had a 301 Turbo between the framerails.

I currently own the Blue '80 Firebird that Chris Ashley drove. We drug it out of a backyard and are returning it back to stocker status, as it had been converted to a bracket car. Should be racing this year with my wife driving it. It will have another 301 Turbo back in the car.

While cruising DRC for SS info, I usually check the Stock results also. Thought I needed to put this here.

At this race, Pontiacs were #1 & #2 qualifiers. Kyle Riley was #1 @ 1.254 under, in his '77 Lemans. Bill Rink was #2 @ 1.228 under. Tim Gillespie's '68 GTO was #39 @ .936 under. Sal Biondo was #61 @ .602 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop

And speaking of Sal Biondo, he got RU at the Pontiac Excitement Nats !

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop

The Biondo clan has quite a history in Pontiac class racing.

OK, we were up thru 2006, lookin at race results for '71-'72 Birds, especially the Burton Birds. Also noting other Pontiacs at those same races.

No Burton cars at the 2007 Winter Nats. But I need to mention it anyhow.
Bryan Phillips was #8 @ -1.148. Leo was #11 @ -1.132. John Schloe was #22 @ -1.006. Tibor Kadar was # 35 @ -.941. Also on the list were Chris Denton & Ryan Schloe.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

Tibor got RU !

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

At the spring Vegas race, pretty much the whole Pontiac crew showed up, plus Brad Burton was #2 @ -1.374. Chris was #6 @ -1.278. John was #12 @ -1.240. Bryan was #15 @ -1.230. Leo was #25 @ -1.169. Tibor was #46 @ -.999. Ryan was #64 @ - .820.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

Had several class winners. Bryan beat Brad in E/SA.

At the Route 66 Nats, Brad was #1 @ - 1.093. Scott was #5 @ -.961. Tim Gillespie was #22 @ -.856. Tibor was #37 @ -.767. Terry Nagel was #53 @ -.646.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

Only 3 Pontiacs made the Denver race. Scott was #2 @ -1.298. Brad was #4 @ -1.260. Larry was #41 @ -.909.

The Burtons got their class win.

No Burtons at Fontana. But Pontiac picked up positions 3,4,5 &6, on the Q-list. Bryan & John were both @ -1.142. Leo was @ -1.140, & Bill Edgeworth was @ -1.139. Tibor was #19 @ -1.016. Chris was #34 @ -.940. Lindy Lindholm was #51 @ -.806 in a '77 Grand Prix. Ryan was #64, & George Thompson was #77, in a '73 Bird.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

Tibor won the race ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

The Burtons made the fall Vegas race. Brad was #2 @ -1.421 Scott was #9 @ -1.284. Bryan was #10 @ -1.275. John was #11 @ -1.274. Chris was #13 @ -1.270. Leo was #28 @ -1.215. Tibor was #53 @ -1.093. Larry was #96. Ryan was #105. George was #118. It was a 128 car field.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

Brad beat Bryan for the E/SA win. Leo won F/SA. Tibor won his class. Chris got a single. And Scott left too soon :(

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

Leo & Tibor made it to the semifinal. So we could'a had an all-Pontiac final. But it didn't happen. They both lost. :(

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop

At Pomona, John was #2 @ -1.168. Leo was #12 @ -1.057. Tibor was #18 @ -1.049. Bryan was #20 @ -1.039. Lindy was #44 @ - .884. Ryan was #63.

No winners.

That wraps up 2007 out West. Several of these Pontiacs qualified @ more than a sec under, at every race they entered.

Wish I had results from the div races, but I don't. DRC records for div races only go back as far as 2012.

So, if any of you guys know of Pontiacs that won a div race before 2012, please post that info.

I know we haven't got up to '74 Birds yet. But, in the pic I posted of Bob Mulry's '74, in T/A trim, I couldn't, at first, detect the T/A fender vent.

Now I have a good pic, clearly showing the vent. I'm sure I'll use this pic again, when we get up to the '74 models. But, I wanna also post it here.

From all I've read, this was an awesome car, setting the record in 3 classes & running more than 1.5 sec under, at several races.

OK, lets look at 2008.

The Burtons showed up at Phoenix. Chris Denton was #6 @ - 1.100. Scott was #10 @ - 1.050. Brad was #15 @ - 1.033. Leo was #20 @ - 1.010. Tibor was #42 @ -.854.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

Chris got a single in her class. Scott won his class. And Brad beat Leo, in his class final.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the spring Vegas race, Bill Edgeworth was #6 @ - 1.314. Brad was #10 @ - 1.284. Scott was #12 @ - 1.272. Bryan was #15 @ - 1.255. John was #17 @ - 1.227. Tibor was #25 @ - 1.150. Chris was #31 @ - 1.115. Lindy was #74 @ -.865. Larry was #76 @ -.847. Ryan was #83 @ -.726.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

Hey, if the 1.2 under rule had been in effect, several of these oldPontiacs would have had to slow it down a bit.

Chris Denton, Bill Edgeworth & Bryan Phillips got their class win.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

At the Mile High Nats Brad was #2 @ - 1.435. Scott was #4 @ - 1.366. And they both easily picked up their class win.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

And, Brad got his 1st nat even win ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

The Burton's didn't make Fontana. Bryan was #9 @ - 1.002. John was #12 @ - 1.991. John Schiess was #14 @ -.982, in a '67 Pontiac. Never saw that name before. Leo was #19 @ -.954. Bil was #23 @ -.938. Tony Janes was #57. Ryan was #62.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

No Stock at the fall Vegas race, & the Burtons didn't go to Pomona. John was #3 @ - 1.205. Bryan was #11 @ - 1.080. Larry was #18 @ - 1.040. Leo was #24 @ - 1.018. Lindy was #43 @ -.836. Ryan was #52 @ -.700.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop

That does it for '08. The Burton's best qualifying was at their home track. Brad went 1.435 under & Scott went 1.366 under. I'd say those were 2 pretty strong 2nd gen Birds ! And, I assume that Brad thought his big win was pretty cool !

While rummaging thru a few old IHRA Drag Review papers today, I found a couple of things I need to post, and ask some questions about.

The 1st pic is of a '73 GTO, in which Mick Leiferman won a race. I think most here know that Mick got RU at Indy 3 years running. I assume this is the car he had, after that. This pic was made nearly a year after his last US Nats RU. Anybody have any good pics to post of this '73 ?

The rest of the pics are about a driver named Billy Joe Moravits. The 1st time I knew the name, was from when he got Stock RU at the IHRA points race in Tyler TX, in '78, where TJ won the bracket class.

He was pictured in the H-O Racing Specialties newsletter. There are 2 different Pontiacs pictured. So, I assume he was part of a family that raced Pontiacs, maybe. Says he was from San Antonio TX.

Have info that says he's kin to Barney Moravits, who has T&P Automotive Machine, in San Antonio TX. His full name is William Joseph Moravits, age 66, and according to online search still lives in San Antonio. So, are there any members here who live in that part of TX, who happen to know either Barney or Billy Joe ? I could start calling every number I can find for him & the shop, but seems like some of you guys know almost everybody who has ever raced a Pontiac. So, I thought I'd ask first.

So, does anybody know Barney or Billy Joe Moravits ?

He's even shown on some Q-lists from 2000, in a 3rd gen Bird GT car.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop

All the Pontiacs picked up their class win. John Schloe won the race ! But he had to put out Leo in the Semi. So, Pontiacs got the #1 qualifier & the Stock win ! Hey, that's a pretty good day for the Pontiac faithful.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop

The Burtons made the Topeka race. Scott was #8 @ -.853. Brad was #10 @ -.837. They were the only Pontiacs on the list.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop

OK, now we come to the Mile High Nats. This is the 1st race I've seen where Scott has moved up to B/SA, with the RAIV engine. Brad is #2 @ - 1.099. Scott is #8 @ -.982.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop

Well, Brad Burton got his 1st national Championship ! :) How cool is that ? And he did it in a Pontiac powered Pontiac. For me, that's WAY cool !

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop

For you guys who have been keepin up with Stock racing for a long time, who was the last guy to win a Stock Championship, in a Pontiac V8 powered Pontiac, before Brad did it in 2010 ?

Re: Best Pontiac Powered Stockers

OK, lets continue to look at early 2nd gen Birds. Since Scott had switched to the '70 RAIV combo, and we'll soon be seeing some '73 cars that ran/run strong, AND since '70-'73 Bird bodies are so similar, we'll look especially at the '70-'73 models, while also noting other quick Pontiacs, at the same races or same season.

We'll look now at the 2011 season. At the Winter Nats, Leo was # 3 @ -.973. Brad was #11 @ - .872. John was #12 @ -.864. Lindy was #26 @ -.807. Scott was #35 @ -.735.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

At the Spring Vegas race, Brad was #3 @ -.912. Scott was #5 @ -.887. Leo was #6 @ -.884. Lindy was #16 @ -.765.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

At the Mile High Nats, Michael Brand was #2 @ -.906. Scott was #12 @ -.709.

Scott won the race ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

I think by this race Brad Burton had moved to Washington State. At the Northwest Nats, he was #2 @ -.902. Bill was #3 @ -.883. Don Elgin was #23 @ -.556.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

Brad made the semi.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

I checked in at the Sports Nats race. Bob Michaels was #8 @ -.976. Randi Lyn was # 13 @ -.937. Mike Morgan was #25 @ -.875. Mike McGinley was #28 @ -.862. Tim Gillespie was #30 @ -.849.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

At the AZ Nats, Randi Lyn was #11 @ -.771. Tibor was #12 @ -.724. Scott was #14 @ -.698. Lindy was #17 @ -.691. Rick was #25 @ -.634. Brad was #29 @ -.544.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

Randi Lyn won her 1st nat event ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

At the Fall Vegas race, Leo was #13 @ -.973. Brad was #16 @ -.931. Randi Lyn was #22 @ -.895. Scott was #25 @ -.872. Larry was #28 @ -.854. Michael Brand was #35 @ -.822. John was #38 @ -.811. Paul was #59 @ -.738. Lindy was #61 @ -.724. Don was #88.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2011#indextop

At Pomona, Randi Lyn qualified at more than a sec under. Highest of any carb equipped car. No Pontiac winners.

Yeah, just about to start including the div races. DRC only shows 2012-up div race results. Right now, DRC is about the only source I have. If somebody knows a quick reliable source for the older div races, I'll be glad to dive into 'em & see what I can find.

Hey, if any of you guys have Pontiac V8 powered div race wins to report, by all means, please post that info !

There are also races with other names, like regionals, national opens, Stock/SS combo races. There's no way I can hope to find results for all those. So, anybody with info about Pontiac wins at any of those special races, please post it.

How about the Stock final, at the top of the page, on the February 2012 DRC div race list ? An all Pontiac final. Scott Burton winner. Michael Brand RU ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

I suspect there will be lots of div race Pontiac wins to report.

OK, we'll now look at the 2012 season. And, since DRC has div race results from 2012-up, we'll also look at some of those.

Remember, we are now looking mostly at the '70-'73 Firebirds, but also mentioning other good Pontiac Stocker info we find during the search for those year models.

As usual, the Winter Nats was the 1st big race of the year, in 2012. At That race, Leo was #2 @ - 1.017. Brad was #5 @ -.943. Scott was #9 @ -.917. Larry was #12 @ -.909. John was #18 @ -.880. Lindy was #45 @ -.725.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Brad won it ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

At the AZ Nats, Rick was #1 @ - 1.009, with his 301T Bird. Leo was #3 @ -.948. Brad was #4 @ -.946. Scott was #7 @ -.915.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Leo won this race ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

At the div 7-1 race, Scott was #4 @ -.907. Michael was #10 @ -.865. Leo was #12 @ -.851. Larry Was #15 @ -.814. Rick was #23 @ -.787. John was #29 @ -.750. Glenn Person was #30 @ -.717. Lindy was #53, & Brad was on the bottom, with a scorching 28.000.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Leo won this one, too ! :) Michael was semi. Scott was QF.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

This was div 7 doubleheader. For the 2nd race, the order was Scott, Michael, Brad, Larry, John, Glen & Lindy.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

And, it was an All-Pontiac final. I LOVE those. :) It was Scott, over Michael. Hey, Pontiac got off to a great start in 2012.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

At the div 7 Vegas race, Leo Was #1 @ -.987. Scott was #4 @ -.936. Michael was #5 @ -.922. Larry was #11 @ -.878. John was #25 @ -.793. Glenn Person was #32 @ -.749. Lindy was #60.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

At the 1st Vegas Nat of the year, Pontiacs were #1, #2, & #4 Qualifiers. Since there will be so many races to cover, with the inclusion of the div races, I no longer try to list the times of each Pontiac. But I'll try to list the highest Pontiac qualifiers. Anyone interested in the lower qualified Pontiacs can simply click on the link & look down the list. At this race, Leo was .973 under, & Michael & Scott were close behind.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Scott & Michael picked up their class wins. Leo & Larry Peterson got class RU.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Hey Hey, it was an all Burton, Stock final !!! Michael made the quarterfinal.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

5 Pontiacs in this div 6 race. Bill Edgeworth had the top Pontiac.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

But Brad won the race ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Michael & Scott were #4 & #5 at this div 5 race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Scott got RU !

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Bill was #2 at this div 6 race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Brad won the race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Scott was #2 qualifier at the Mile High Nats. But Michael won the race ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Well, that gets us thru July. Since the season is aprox 10 months long, I assume that's more than half way. So, I'll stop this & do the rest of the season in the next post.

Hey, the Pontiacs had a great 1st half, in 2012 ! :)

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Michael got RU at this div 5 race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2012#indextop

Scott, Leo, Brad & Michael got their class win, at the fall Vegas nat. Randi Lyn was RU to Leo.

Brad Burton locked up another Stock Elim National Championship, in 2012, as well as the div 6 Stock title !!! :)

OK, I can post pics of many of these cars in various positions, and some at several different tracks. And I'll do that.

But a pic doesn't tell anybody how well the car ran against it's index, or when it got a class, div, or Nat event win. I've already quit listing every car on a Q-list. But, if Pontiac powered cars place high on a Q-list, I think that's note worthy, especially if the car is a sec or more under.

Those big qualifying numbers are quite common for other makes, especially the late model FI computer equipped models. But, I think it's pretty cool to see these old Q-jet equipped Pontiacs run quick. Many of 'em are quicker than Pontiac SS cars were when I started racing.

So, I'll try to increase the pics & decrease the race results.

Thanks ! :)

Gotta mention the Q-list from Pomona. 3 of the top 10 are Pontiacs. Leo was #1 @ - 1.094. John Schloe was #4 @ - 1.010. Lindy Lindholm had his '74 Formula, which was recently stolen. He was #9 @ -.950.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2014#indextop

At the Carquest Nats, 4 of the top 8 were Pontiacs. I think that's a big deal when half of the top 8 qualifiers are Pontiac powered !

Leo made it to semi, Michael to qtr.

At the Gators, Randi Lyn laid down an awesome qualifying pass, of 10.374, which 1.176 under, to become the quickest non-FS car on the list. Was also well ahead of any other carb equipped car. Won her class with no problem.
