421 Super Duty Pontiac exhaust manifold. I took this at the 50th Anniversary race at Indy.

Some Max Wedge exhaust manifolds.
At one time I had a set of 427 Ford cast iron headers but didn't have a digital camera back then. I had a couple of guys with pickups with 390s that wanted them, but there wasn't any way those would have fit. I guess they only fit the Galaxies. |

Max Wedge 4500 cross ram. I would guess this was a NASCAR piece. It appears to have a Chrysler part number but I couldn't read it. It looks a bit like the Indy crossram but the Indy runners are much shorter.

Some sort of Indy car engine. I don't know what year this was designed, but I'll guess around the time of the Ford Indy engine (circa 1963). I don't know if it ever got past this drawing. I've never seen anything else about it.

James, that photo of the blueprints says it's a 255 cubic inch motor in the upper right corner of the photo...

Re: Old Race Parts and Pieces
Yep, I seem to recall the Ford Indy engine was 255 cubic inches back then as well. It was developed off the 221 small block (before the 260/289/302 varients). I think the Offies were 183 cubic inches (3L). I think the stock blocks got a bigger engine, like the mid-1950s where Chrysler took the 354 and blew away the Offies. It was outlawed before they got to qualify. They showed their hand too early. Probably Chrysler needs to sandbag a little if they got a killer in the bag. They get outlawed if their stuff is too strong, or handicapped out of contention.

Re: Old Race Parts and Pieces
Both the 1963 pushrod and 1964 DOHC Ford engines were 255 cubic inches. During that period of time the Offy's were also 255. Later in the 1960's pushrod motors could run at 305 which is what Dan Gurney did with his Weslake headed Fords. In 1968 when they started turbocharging the engines the size limit became 2.65 Liters. Bobby Unser won with the Offy when the two turbines died with 10 laps to go.

Re: Old Race Parts and Pieces
Would that be called A MAXIMUM Maximum Wedge, or an ULTIMATE Maximum Wedge? Maybe if two 4bbl carbs is good, then four ought to be killer? They probably couldn't get that much air flow into the cylinders anyway.
