John,

You wouldn't be from the Cleveland area by chance? A friend of mine's neighbor had a couple 69 chevelles in the early 70s. Held a d/ sa record for awhile. The brown one had a 427 in it and I think it was a copo car. The other was dark green. He and his partner split up...he kept the engine, partner kept car. I was restoring a 69 SS at the time( early 80s)when he showed me his pics of the cars.

I saw a 68 427 car. back in 82 or so. I was at the auto hobby shop at DMAFB, and a guy drove in a pea green 69, thing looks plain as heck, the badges said 427, I asked him what the heck, he said his family had ordered it new like that. Since then I found that you could COPO it with the 427. Nothing else was changed, body or trim wise. Never saw what trans or rear it had. But it was a bench column car.

I have never seen any documentation of a factory produced 427 powered Chevelle other than the COPO 9562 in 1969.

There were dealer built cars, Yenko, Gibb, etc, and possibly "Baldwin/Motion" cars, before 1969.

In 69, the two 427 Camaro COPO cars fit SS/B and SS/C. Bill Howell and Vince Piggins wanted in SS/D. So the 69 Chevelle COPO 9562 was created for that purpose.

The spring/summer 2008 Chevelle magazine from Super Chevy has a nice little short article on the COPO 9562 69 Chevelle L-72 427 cars, with a breakdown of the options, and even some information on the COPO cars Yenko bought and sold.

Fairness indeed . . .
I purchased "a genuine Dick Harrell car" from Bill Allen Chevrolet . . .

Copies of the ORIGINAL, circa '69 docs I saved. . .
The Dick Harrell Performance Center MSRP was on the driver side window the day I bought the car new. . .
The Bill Allen customer invoice I received after the trade was finalized . . .
Bill Allen was a reputable GM dealer - not one who would participate in a scam to sell fake Harrell cars . . .
