Studs have a different clamping force than bolts. That is why they are used under higher cylinder pressures. Also they will cause cylinder roundness issues if they weren't used to hone it. A bracket motor you may never see the difference, a stocker motor on the other hand you.....

Hey guys,
Another long break. Took a long time to get the heads and intake back from the machinist(I really don't think they enjoy us stockers! haha) however we are pretty happy with our turn out.
Cam is installed and sitting at .045" intake and .110" exhaust for piston to valve clearance. For our first build of this type whats your thoughts on the intake clearance? Not looking to break any records and will have a 1000 other bugs to worry about but we feel it is just about right.
Assembled below and we should be seeing this sitting in the car in the next few days!

Might want to retard the cam two degrees to give you more clearance on the intake valve side.

Glenn,
Sorry left out some key enough. We did retard the cam two degrees and it gained us about .007” on the intake clearance. Putting us at the .045” mentioned above.

Alright!!!
Really big week for my dad as he was able to get the engine set in place. Bellhousing, clutch, throwout bearing, starter, radiator hoses, modifications to fit the clutch fork, etc. done.
Pretty monumental for us to see the engine in place, this obviously adds fuel to the fire.
I however made the move to Columbia, South Carolina
My wife is a dentist in the Army and will be stationed at Fort Jackson for the time being. I will still be making it back for every race I can!! Specially Division 5.
However a lot of the progress will be in my dad's hands as we look to get him back in the driver seat!!!

Congrats on the build, you should RE READ the advice Glenn B. gave you,…if this is a dish combo ,45 thou is not enough clearance. I would invest in a soft touch for the water…down the road you might consider custom head gaskets for more valve clearance…just trying to save you guys some $$ and aggravation ….

Fuel line, pump, regulator mounted. Whats everyone use for a quick "tap" for fuel checks?

Just an observation here.
My experience tells me this fuel pump won't be up for the job on an 11 sec. stick shift Q-Jet car.
Unless your test track is across the street, it costs a bunch to go out there for the first time and find a problem such as this.
Good luck

Appreciate it Mark. Is this because of the quadrajets bowl size?
Do you have an at minimum size/suggestion you would go with?
