I bought the Eastwood brake line tools for a different project but never used them on it, so this was the first go round today. The deburring tool worked great and their flaring tool (barring any leaks) was great too.https://i.imgur.com/Q97HFdf.jpg

Cleaned up the line loc and put it together, threw the line adapter brackets on the frame and temporarily mounted some fittings so I could start bending some line.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Back for an hour this morning to do some more bending. I ordered one wrong fitting for the master so I have the correct one coming tomorrow, that will help get me to the point of ordering the two sections of braided hose at the master and one to the brake pressure gauge. I have to go get some fasteners and I'll go back for more work this afternoon.
Unfortunately Autumn has been sick with a fever all week so I'm on my own but just want to move forward and get a few things knocked off the punch list.

Enjoying the progress and everything looks awesome. I think it would be wise to move the brake line below the top surface of your crossmember, run it along the front face.

Thank you, and I'll leave it in the factory clamps, should be fine.

BS work going on not really fit to print tonight, powdercoating brackets and reassembling trinkets. I did get the coated locks in so that at least has a nice visual impact.

I want to take a second to thank everyone for looking in on this thread, amazing to me how many views it's had, 60k WOW. Lot's of input from some of the seasoned vets of the sport helping along the way via talking to me at the track or through calls, texts or PMs. We're looking forward to moving in a positive forward direction and I hope we're making Bill Belden proud of our work.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Painted the hatcback area with sort of a rubberized spray coating, not what I really had in mind but I couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I'm sure it'll be fine when it's all together. Started working on seat brackets but without my helper there I just got as far as I could. Master cyl had some weird green coating on it so I painted it black and worked in that area getting it mounted so I could proceed with more brake lines. Gonna try to put in some time tomorrow too.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Sunday Sunday Sunday! Started the day out working on glass, quarter windows are in. Loud pedal is back together and in, as is the throttle cable. Pulled the line loc off to seal and tighten the fittings, had to tweak one brake line after I decided to change the direction of the fitting for the brake pressure gauge. Did the final install of the front brake brackets and calipers.

Probably won't get too many chances to work on it this week but I'm getting some parts and pieces ready for the upcoming weekend. #1 was to get the carpet out so it will relax to the floor a bit.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Couple more things done... put the hatch rubber on and started working on a plate for the firewall switch panel. Autumn came down after school and we worked on seat bracket location, well it looks like a smaller seat would be better for us, the location is so far forward that this Kirkey seat will be very close to the roll bar on one side and the shifter on the other. This seat is the 17" wide version so I ordered a 15" wide one, it should be here Thursday. I also got all the front fender bolts and spring nuts ready also made sure the threads were clean. Possibly the best thing I've done is order some new fasteners, cheap and nice to have new clean coated bolts, I'll post a photo of a place to get them.

Nick, I like that stainless hardware, very sharp! I can't pull out ALL the stops on this one, makes it too hard to top it on the next build.:D

Todd , that was funny .... the reason I did it was I just to lazy to figure out what I needed..... Not because they are stainless .....hahaha

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

So, I don't know how ya'll do carpet around these bars but the last one I did was a butcher job, I wasn't happy with it so I knew I had to come up with something. now I'm pretty sure a sharp edge and nailing it with a hammer would do... but I like fire. My pipe could have been sharper but I heat it with a torch and shoved it right through the carpet, nice thing about this is, it's cauterized so it won't fray. Just a bit more to do and the carpet's done. I bought a carpet set plus 2yd of 80/20 for the rear section.
(First photo I didn't have the pipe hot enough on the first shot of my test pass, second one went right through).

Hey...slick tip on the hot pipe. I've sharpened a frost plug and used a hammer but always had the fuzzies. :(

It worked beautifully, just wrap the pipe in a rag as it gets hot. I think I'll wrap 6" of it with some left over exhaust wrap.

Todd and Rachel,

Please reinforce the safety aspect of getting that little gal to protect her purty little eyes with some safety glasses!

Yeah, I know many will take that as undue criticism, but it is really sound advice from an old one-eyed fat man.

Great build you guys are doing and sharing with us.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

Day 2 of the long weekend. Started out a little shakey, had a couple of interior panels that needed painted, figured we could start there and it didn't go as planned. Ran out of paint when we originally painted so I had to get more... well it didn't match at all so I had to go find some and re-paint, luckily it matched but it put us behind first thing. We got to patching holes in the floor and getting the DS loop in, then installed some Rivnuts for future rear section carpet hold downs.

Re: H-I-J '76 Nova re-fit.

I looked for months for a nice dashpad, couldn't find one. They do however make abs plastic covers but I wasn't sure about that, we filled the hole (plastic epoxy) then sanded it, then we tried to cover it with vinyl. Well I got it with sort of a backing on it ( maybe it's the wrong stuff) so it wouldn't form to it and it looks pretty bad. Well we did it together so it's good with me and we put it in.

Threw in the wiring harness to the rear of the car then finally got around to installing some interior panels, quit about 9pm. Long day, but we'll be back at it tomorrow (not very early though). ;)

We were tired and moving in slomo today. We did however get the steering column out and apart, got more interior bits sorted out, commenced the under dash wiring and test fit the core support.
