O2 or EGT ?

Looking for some input. Which one, what brand, and why?
Thanks.

If you JUST want either an O2 sensor OR an EGT, get the AFX O2 unit from NGK. Inexpensive, simple, accurate, and reliable. An EGT unit is hard to tune with unless you're real sharp. There's nothing WRONG with tuning by EGT, IF you have a handle on it.

No one else with an opinion? Alan, are you saying its best to have both? Looking to weld fittings in before my headers go out to get coated.
Thanks, Joe

Joe, I would go with an O2 sensor setup only. It is the only true way to see the Air/Fuel Ratio.

Joe, I'm saying that it is best to use AFR for ease of use. EGT has its place, but it is a lot more difficult to use for any number of reasons. You don't have to have an EGT setup, but I'd hate to have to do without an AFR setup.

Send your headers to NitroPlate, the best coating there is, and the only coating done by a company that not only services sportsman racers, but they ARE sportsman racers.

Instructions on ngk website state sensor must be installed 10x the dia of the collector from the end of the collector. 3 1/2 x 10=35". anybody else have a problem.

No, we do not have that problem, and we've run the AFX setup for a year and a half. Almost any O2 sensor system will have those same instructions. What it means is that on a race car, unless you have a system on the car after the collectors, you'll get lean readings at idle and low RPM. When it's going down the track, it'll read just fine. At idle, the O2 readings are useless.

I'm not familiar with what's available on the market, but I will say that you'll want a wide band O2 and a heated one at that. You'll also want to avoid any exhaust leaks before the O2. A secure ground for the header will also be required. Too close to the engine and it'll burn up, too close to the end of the collector and it'll read O2 between pulses.

Monty,
So are you saying it's impossible your too lean? Have you made adjustments to richen it up?

I am currently installing the FAST wide-band (and heated) dual O2 sensor. All I can say is it is one nice package using quality parts and wiring.

Is the NGK deal heated? Does the bung install in the collector?
Alan, I support sportsman racers whenever possible so Nitroplate was my choice.
Thanks for the response's
Joe

Joe,
The NGK has dual heaters, and the bung installs in one of the collectors.
