Stinnett or MaxSpeed
I am looking for input on a new stop for my new hotrod. I have limited hood clearance and do not want a scoop. So I have about 2" of available room under a carb for a stop. Looking for experiences with either. Pros cons etc. My last S/ST car had a disc stop buit they are limited in bore size and I am looking at no smaller than a 2.200" throttle blade. My engine actually made a fair amount more power with a 2.400...Any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
Al, everyone I knew that ran the MaxSpeed no longer does.
That said, I too have limited under hood clearance. I've been running a custom height 4150 stop from #1 Stop since we have first competed in S/ST. Last season I swapped my 4150 carb to BLP's "large bore" 4150 which uses the same body as the twin blade. Once again I called onto Gary at #1 Stop who again built me a custom height stop that I will be using this season. https://i.imgur.com/YESsaXNl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/09gFQZ0l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/VRk6a17l.jpg |

He also deals with Stennett stuff. really you can’t go wrong with him. |
Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed

I don't plan on slowing down. It's going to be a PITA for sure. By the way if any of you see me struggling with this **** give me a hand please. |

I have watched people have to have somebody else help them buckle the straps or whatever, a lot of these races I am by myself not looking forward to this! |
Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
Stop is on the way. Thanks for the replies. I already have my head and neck restraint. Had to wear one in TS/heads up stuff for the last few years. FWIW I have a NecksGen RevII and I just leave it attached to my helmet, and prefer a helmet skirt to the head sock and have used both. Just coming back to S/ST after a 10 year hiatus or bump on the head. Will run when we can between heads up stuff. Thanks again.

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
Stinnett Stop for me . much better than the Max Speed. ATM also makes a very good stop.

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
Who has the go to carb? Stinnet, APD, ATM..?

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
ATM

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
I like being different. When I ran S/St before I used a stock 1150 that I modified. Much like I did with the stop, modified my own to work how I wanted. I have one here as well as the one I purchased that's on the way. My plan is to tinker with both, Might bite me in the rear but I kinda did the same last time. I was told a disc style Dedenbear would never work. Took me some time to figure it out but did ok for me. Just wont work this time as I have gone to a bigger carb, which seems to be frowned upon as well. Good news is I have one of my old ones still just in case.
Thanks again for the input. |
Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
We run a bigger carb/bigger stop than is the norm and thinking on our S/C engine.

Looking forward to getting back into it and expecting to look stupid for awhile. Especially when I can't use my local track to test much as S/Pro is all 1/8 mile. |
Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
My ATM 1050 has the best fuel curve of any carb I've had . better on the stop than anything I've seen ,and I've seen a lot of other racers data graphs.

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
Al what size carb/what throttle bore are you using?

The ATM carb on my S/C dragster is a 2.400.

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
I purchased a #1 Billet Stop for my 540.. had a conversation with Gary about my car, and set-up.. Gary put an adjustable valve on the intake side, as well as the exhaust side, and provided a basic set-up.. couldn't be happier with my purchase.. I run a DC Carbs 1250 on top, set up by David Cook.. both great people to work with..

Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
Gary just called me a few hours ago just to see how I was doing, what my plans were and how things have been. He has also tried tirelessly to get some sort of air cleaner on my new car with the engine offset and the way things sit under the hood very difficult, but he keeps trying. How many companies call you just to see how you’re doing? I sure wish Summit, JE, Amalie, and Manley would call me and tell me they’re finally going to send my contingency check from Maple Grove…. Just saying

Gary’s customer service is outstanding. Many companies could learn a lot from
Him. |
Re: Stinnett or MaxSpeed
Well I managed to get out and make a few shakedown runs on this new truck. We only made one half a$$ed stop attempt with a WAG on the numbers. Needless to say I have some work to do, But it needs more rear gear so we just loaded up after this pass and went home. Racepak being goofy to dropping channels I think that is a bad extension cable. To be frank I have never had much luck with sportsman racepak stuff. Never an issue with a V300...It dropped oil pressure sensor after the one stop guess so we loaded up and went home.
New center section coming as of this morning. Once that comes will get it in and try again. Here is the one bad slip, but good news is I might have something to work with once we get it happy. Back half MPH is LAME https://i.postimg.cc/Rh4DZbYv/IMG-2365.jpg |
