Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
How do you guys run?

Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
It seems pretty even.
I was under the impression that in closed loop if the O2 sensor gets a wacky reading it will throw the car way off. How do you keep that from happening? |

Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
art i moved the o2 sensor out of the collector up the header to 12 inches from the head made a huge difference in e.t.

Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
yes it will only read one at a time
|
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
It will only read one period.
I have yet to see one run faster in closed loop. Have seen several faster in open loop. If the car is slow enough you might make it work. I haven't seen one correct fast enough to work all that well with even a ten second car. Usually ends up not consistent. Tried it several times, won't waste my time with it again. |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
I'm with Ed! I don't like my dial-in changing as I'm heading down the track. It would follow the air 2 runs then, change 3 a different direction.
I clamped the correction amount, and realized, what are you really correcting? Open loop it follows the air like a carb car and I understand that. Tim |

"Hal, what should I dial?"
" Wait while I check the weather... Dave" |

Open here.

Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
I started this post 4 years ago.
I run in open loop seems to work fine. I have a quick tune feature that I can type the AFR ratio I want and it does the math to adjust. But after the run not while going up the track. |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Always open loop unless I am trying to see how much the O2 sensor is correcting. Then I will make a throw away run in closed loop, make an adjustment and stick with open loop.

Man, I'm dumb. I don't get it. Who is Dave, and is that Ted thing a button, or light, or???
Forgive me. I'm old. Probably some young thing I don't know about. :-( |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
^^^
2001 A space odyssey. Was a movie from 1968. |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Open. We are only going 1320'. To me, I see no need to have the computer playing games and adjusting fuel in that short distance.
Simplicity = Consistency. |

LOL that movie was premiered over 14 years before I was born (born December of 82). I'm just into movie qoutes.
"What are you doing..Dave?" "I'm afraid I can't let you do that, Dave" |

C'monEd get with it....loosen up.....
2001. A Space Odyssey was made in 1968 A Very cool movie and was a Stanley Kubrick film and he made some great ones. Hal is the computer on the space station and he gets a little head strong.....but he never loses his temper and is tough to outsmart.... They make movies like that today....over 40 years later....I just watched one with a similar theme.....I Robot..... How about Full Metal Jacket....also a Stanley Kubrick flick.... |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Rich, we sure don't watch the same kind of movies. LOL
|
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
2001: A Space Odyssey was the only movie I ever saw where after the ending most of the audience in the theater was standing in the aisles looking back at the screen or looking at each other wondering if the movie was over......I guess A Clockwork Orange (another Kubrick film) is definitely out of the question for Ed's movie library....

Jim, I saw that wierd sucker, well, part of it. Walked out before it was over. Too strange for me.

Re: Fuel injection? Air intake temp sensor
I have noticed on alot of the GM and Mopar units that this sensor is left unscrewed into the intake.
Does it stay cooler in the open air and change reading to the processor? |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Which sensor?
|
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Kyle, he has to be talking about the IAT sensor.
Usually mounted in the air filter box or ducting. Can also be screwed into the intake manifold and set up as a MAT sensor. Lots of race cars running around without one, the diagnostic code shut off, and the correction table zeroed out. In Speed Density mode, most recommend a MAT sensor being used. |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Gotcha. I wasn't sure if he was referring to the MAP sensor which is in the proper position for Speed Density, but flipped up and the hole plugged for Alpha N.
|
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Intake air temp sensor. For me, its a factory unit screwed into the lower intake. Just noticed alot of others let it flap in the breeze near the entrance to the TB. Just wondered if it helps something in the fuel curve control.
|
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Yes, it can help. If you see it out in the open air, like in front of the throttle body, then they are generally running it in Alpha N. Ed's post covered it pretty well.
Edited to add: I do use the air temp to affect my fuel curve to a small degree. |

Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
Art,
What I am wondering is if I plug the hole in the intake, and just leave it out in the open air, if it would change anything. Its not a problem or anything, but just a thing that makes ya go hmmmmmmmmm Tony |
Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
I wouldn't bother moving it.

Re: Fuel injection? Open or Closed loop?
If you are concerned that the ambient temps are causing the ECM to pull timing, just adjust / eliminate the amount of timing being pulled via the AIT mapping.
