60' times
What are some of the things you look at when your 60' times fall off ? Mine have fallen off by around a tenth.I have already tried the usual, new tires, float level, fuel pump delivery, timing, transmission and even went as far as having the converter cut apart. Thanks in advance.

Re: 60' times
Go over the car from top to bottom and look for any suspension binding, any thing broken, bad shocks, bad heim ends etc.

Re: 60' times
Check the oil for bearing material -- make sure it's not the engine going away. Been there, done that...

Re: 60' times
You can also check the compression and the valve springs. Sounds like the engine may be a little tired.

Re: 60' times
Rick, you should really start by comparing your on track incremental times and mph of the good runs to the bad. You can then make a better pinpoint of the spot where your losing your power. If your mph is up at 660 and 1320, then you can come to a conclusion, it's not the engine, trans or converter. Look at the other incrementals and find where it's dropping off and if it's only the 60' times that are slow. It may be as simple as the track your racing at may not be preparing the starting line properly due to the car counts being down. They could be trying to make up their profit margin there. I know a lot of the points races we ran at this year, we had to keep the car very loose to make up for a bad track.
Just another opinion. Hope it helps |

Re: 60' times
For my car it's the head gaskets leaking between cylinders when the 60 falls off, Paul.

Either the stall will go way down, or way up. BTW, anybody attempting to check stall speed with the rear wheels on the ground ,will find themselves with a long vacation from NHRA. This is in response to the fatality at Fontana recently. |
Re: 60' times
i have to agree with marty ,,the track preperation has alot to to do with consistancy of 60' times ,,i know if you go on a saturday test and tune track will not be as good as a sunday points day race also, the time of day will affect track performance 12:00-2:30 with sun beating on the track will make for a greasy track
