Please Help Identify 4x2 intake

Can anyone help identify this intake and possibly its worth? It's a 2 x 4bbl intake that I think is a big block ??? given it's width. The owner's son thinks its for a 413 wedge 1959 model. I'm going to an auction tomorrow to possibly bid on it.

The intake is "supposed" to belong a a 59 Chrysler 300 with a 413 wedge.

Re: Please Help Identify 4x2 intake

It's not a big block Mopar intake.Too many attaching bolt holes, and I don't recall a water pump nipple or thermostat housing being on any B/RB intake.

Guessing....I'd say it's a polyspheric series intake.

It's a Poly head intake for sure and pretty rare. I have both the 383 and the 413 dual quad mani's and they use a valley pan gasket like any standard BB Chrysler.

Thanks for all the replies. I've searched on the web for poly intake casting numbers, but I can't find a good list. Does anyone have a source for those type casting numbers?

Chris,
If you need a set of oversized pistons for a 318 poly I have a new set of stock replacements. Memory is bad, but I think they are .030 or .040 os.

If you need an entire 318 poly, my crew guy bought a 64 Polara street car that had one in it. I think it came with a fresh spare too. I am sure he would sell it by the pound! They are 2 bbl engines. LOL.

This design, The Dodge Pro Stock head and the Ford Pro Stock Hemi is kind of a off shoot of this design chamber, there was a Oldsmobile design in 1985 that Albert Clark & Wayne County did development on in as billets. That is how Chrysler end up with this design I have dated pictures & some dyno results ran at LMR where there were back to back dyno test on this DRCE VS the Olds Billet Hemi raealy a semi-hemi

Did more research. It's a 318 2 x 4bbl for a 57-58 318 poly engine. I bid up to $250 and did not get it, went for $260. eBay says it's worth $400 plus.

If you don't have a need for it (like you are restoring a car that came with one), I'd say $250 was a reasonable amount.

Neil Smedley had a 318 poly 2bbl in a '62 Belvedere at one time. It ran 17.20's with a 2bbl a/t and 2.90's gear. He put a 4bbl on it with a 625 Carter and it ran 17.20's. He changed to a 3.55 rear and it ran 17.20's. He recurved the distributor and got it to the 17-teens. He then added a 2x4bbl and it ran the same.
There you go, nothing to get excited about or maybe Neil is just plain stupid!

The 1956 Fury was 303 CI and 1/4 BBL (Carter WCFB). The Optional Plymouth engine in 1957 and early 1958 (before the 350 CI Wedge) was a 318 CI w 2/4's and rated at 290 HP, mech lifters, etc. The only '56 Fury with dual quads was the car Chrysler ran at Daytona Beach, which had an adapter to a 300B dual fours set up. It ran upwards of 160 MPH, if I remember right.

Well I don't know Neal but when I was in high school (about 100 years ago) I had a 58 Plymouth Belvedere two door hard top that weighed about 3,800 pounds. With a rebuilt two barrel engine, a 3.91 Sure Grip rear end and exhaust cut outs I ran some to mid to low 17s. However I was not that great either, it was discovered after I sold it that the exhaust heat riser valve was rusted shut.

I would have thought a much lighter 62 would be quite a bit faster.

Division 1 racer Len Abrahamson said when he lived in Cali he raced a 64 dodge with a 318 Poly and it ran in the low 13s, it had a four barrel and headers, I'm not sure what else. On my flow bench I found a pocket ported Poly head to flow very similar to a pocket ported Chev 1.94" head. In a 62 Ply with an aftermarket mani, carb, cam in drag race trim, 11s should be very possible, Paul.

Re: Please Help Identify 4x2 intake

I ran a '65 Dodge with a poly in the Ahra and with some slight cheating got it into the high 15's but a Mopar magazine did a full out build up on a poly a few years ago and got barely over 400hp with a single 4bbl.
