Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Yes lets try and put these old Sox & Martin photos of their B029's in chronological order or at least try too...white hood w/blue stripe, Barracuda lettering on nose, 426 Hemi call outs on hood, Lil Boss on fenders.

1968 NHRA Springnationals
Englishtown, New Jersey (June 14,15,16 1968) Sox & Martin SS/B Class Winner During Time Trials and Class Eliminations, this car ran nearly 6/10's under the 10.91 National Record (set by Don Grotheer 1-week earlier). In the First Round of Super Stock Eliminator, Ronnie Sox spun the left (driver side) GoodYear slick off the Keystone wheel as he left the line. As you can see, this car has a blue hood with a white center stripe. Also, this car had a white stripe on the roof and trunk deck-lid. Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Does anyone here know if that is a 'Hot Sheet' that is stuck on the front windshield on the Sox & Martin '68 Hemi Cuda, or is it something else.

The action in the photo obviously is staged, as theres a whole lot of nothing going on here. Theres a speed wrench on the cowl, yet Buddy is spinning one in the spark plug hole. One of the Holley carbs is loose, sitting on a rag and Ronnie appears half asleep staring at it. Nice job of "Product Placement" with the Fram filter AND box, labels up, on the radiator support, the Valvoline racing motor oil can, and the Hurst box on the floor with a mount and a white shift knob in the plastic bag in plain view. I'm assuming the other gentleman in the shot is Jake King.Curiously, I see theres some kind of smudge on the back of Buddy's right leg that I thought was a defect on my cover until I look at your photo and there it is again. I'm a little surprised to see the windshield wiper motor still in the car, perhaps it was required at the time. Cool thread here, keep it going. Danny Durham |

Sox & Martin SS/B
1968 NHRA Springnationals @ Englishtown Super Stock Eliminator vs. Barrie Poole (First Round) Snapped the GoodYear slick off the Keystone rim. If you look close, you can see that this BO29 has a wide white stripe on the roof and trunk deck-lid. http://www.colesy-juniorstockforum.c...e.php?id=10487 |
Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
A little trivia, can an anyone spot the differences between the two '68 Hemi Cuda's Sox & Martin raced...how do you tell them apart from all the photo's posted on them in the various threads posted here in the forums, other than their class #.

Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Moose,,,,,,,,,,,Excellent photo from early-1968
The #1 BO29,,,,,,,,, The front bumper was twisted on that car. The front left (driver side) section was twisted upwards. The hood & grille paint scheme on that car was changed a few times. |

Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Never,ever saw this one.
Anyone have anything more on it it? I thought all the Billy Stepp stuff was later model. http://inlinethumb06.webshots.com/94...600x600Q85.jpg |
Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Charlie, that B029 '68 Hemi Barracuda was originally Billy 'The Kid' Stepp's car...it was later bought by Sox & Martin and repainted in their red white & blue colors...it is still around and making the car show circuit, ( I think it's the same car that I posted that link earlier.)

Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
I know that Stepp had a rumored "mystique" (for lack of a better word) around him.
But, for the racing part of his image, he always had some of the best looking stuff out there. |

Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Not an obvious Sox&Martin, might not even be a B029.
Any ideas on whose or what it is? http://inlinethumb06.webshots.com/44...600x600Q85.jpg |

Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Moose/Paul,
This is S&M's first car - the one that was put together in SS&DI - note the red pinstripe near the rocker panel - This photo shows the first outing after the NYC Car show. This photo, the SS&DI photos and one clinic photo are all I have seen of this car - either it got re-painted or sold early?? Mark J |
Re: Sox & Martin (BO29's Only)
Charlie, That is a real BO29 car - it is Ed Miller's before it was lettered.
From what I have heard, Billy Stepp did not buy a BO29 car new - he had 2- possibly 3 but they were bought from original owners. BTW, His Demon and Dart Sport P/S cars were originally built by others before Billy got them as well. Not sure about the Challenger. Mark J |
