Re: Jr Stock Book

:):):) Great video Mark. Lots of cool pictures, especially the cars on the back of haulers - old school, awesome. I have the book ordered and can't wait until it arrives. Is the 65 Olds 4-4-2 at about the 2:11 mark in the video Pete Kost? It appears to be, can't quite make out the name on the door. If so, what a great plus for me. I have known Pete for about 35+ years. We always talk at great lengths about Drag Racing whenever we see each other. It is always fun talking with him and Dino. We lost Pete's brother Bill a few years ago and still miss talking with him.

Probably is. I've never seen pics of his 65 car, but I'm sure he had one.

I was just at Barnes and Noble this morning. Nothing in their computer yet. Is the book still on schedule for the 15th? I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my copy. Should be a great read and awesome addition to my book collection.

:oSorry for the delay Mark. I talked with Pete Kost the other day and yes the 65 4-4-2 is his. I quess I will have him sign the picture when I get my copy.

Re: Jr Stock Book

I was able to attain an advance copy of this book and it is a very well done book. I have not been able to read everything in great detail yet but one of the best features I have found is that in the back there is a listing of every racer mentioned in the book and what pages they are found on. A quick scan of this index shows a few names we still see on this message board. Another post mentioned Pete Kost, he is listed in the index 12 times.
The book starts out in 1955 with the ground work for Jr. Stock but really focuses on 1964-1971.

Thanks,

Chad

:D:DThanks for the update. I was at Barnes and Noble last week and they said at that time about the middle of September. Looking forward to adding this book to my rapidly expanding library of car books.

Re: Jr Stock Book

I bought a copy and it seems to be very good overall, although I'm far too young (53) to have any first hand knowledge. I did catch a couple of errors after a quick look-thru; Dave Duell being named Doug (his son) in a caption and a mention that Pete Kost no longer raced. Lots and lots of great photos. I think there are even some obscure cars in there as well, and some "hitters" that probably should have been in there, but aren't, probably due to photo availability. It would be cool to see a follow-up 1972-up book in the not-to-distant future.

Amazon contacted me by email and said that they will ship the preorders this week. It is alittle late, but I enjoy that period of NHRA stocker action and I am sure that it will be worth the wait.

Received my copy today, plan to really settle in and read this weekend!

Re: Jr Stock Book

:D My copy arrived about an hour ago. Guess what I have been doing? (I am retired) Lots of cool pictures and looks to be a very well done book. I will take time to read it very soon. I am sure, as with all books of this nature, you can always find an error or two. The time and effort to do this must be extreme, at the least. I, too, wish there would be a follow-up book covering the 1972 and later years. The effort to do so would, no doubt, be overwhelming. Anyway, get a copy if you enjoy these years, as it looks to be a great book to have.

I seriously doubt it cause I've never seen one but somebody told me there was a picture of my black 66 W30 in there from the Nascar Winter Nationals in Daytona Beach in 67 or 68 can't remember. If so sure would like to see that. Can't find that damn book anywhere. Thanks, Danny

Thanks, No lettering plain black -----On starting line at night final round heads up with Silver 67 z28 named The Assassin out of Honest Charley Speed Shop in Tenn. Thanks for looking but didn't have much hope ---probably mistook it for the one you saw. The original photos were taken by a friend that passed away years ago and his family probably threw them away. At least I still have the car. Thanks again-------Danny

Lyn,,, there is a gasser book out there. I've seen it a few times over the years at swap meet tables, but the title escapes me. I'm sure someone on here can name it and steer you in the right direction.

I received mine yesterday and I am very pleased. There are minor errors, but that can happen when you do a book like this.

I have been reading my copy for a week now. It makes me remember and appreciate the people I have met, cars, and events I have seen. It also is easier than getting out the approriate issues of SS&DI to read.
