Justin Bieber busted for DUI & Drag Racing

I didn't even know he was a drag racer. I don't recall seeing this clown at the track. Another idiot helping give our sport a bad name and the mainstream media's pounces on the opportunity.

Again the MEDIA uses whatever term to make the headline....Kind of like BLIZZARD. Unfortunately it brings the viewers. Look at the NFL rant that has gained the guy national coverage for being obnoxious. It is the News. Forget the Debt, Jobless numbers, Insurance being dumped...(Probably willl get moved to Lounge)

Too bad CNN considers him newsworthy.

This time it sounds like the media got it right.
Seems like they had the street blocked off, and both cars lift from a stop. That's drag racing.

Like all of us true drag racers, I took exception to the story being identified with our sport. A couple years ago, I called a local TV station regarding the exact same miss leading information they gave, about a fatal crash on the highway during a "drag race". The exchange was some what heated, as the newsman didn't like being corrected. I finally convinced him it was a STREET RACE not a drag race, and had nothing to do with our sport. They haven't made the same mistake since. just my two cents!

I wonder if your street racing and turn left, will they call it stock car racing?

Re: Justin Bieber busted for DUI & Drag Racing

An acceleration contest between 2 cars, starting from a stopped position is a drag race.
If it's on a track or on a street.
Two cars weaving in and out of traffic is not drag racing. But the media usually calls it that.

Re: Justin Bieber busted for DUI & Drag Racing

Bottom line.....it is illegal racing on the street and shouldn't be confused with the legal activity we participate it. We have enough issues and identity crisis, mainly with spectators relating to sportsman handicap racing. We don't need ANY negative associations. Nascar has done a lot to get away from their "moonshine" roots. But it has gotten too "politically correct". As mentioned earlier, the media doesn't call it "stock car racing", "road course racing" or whatever style of driving is being illegally displayed. It's illegal, it's on the street - it should be accurately identified as "illegal street racing", so the average fan/spectator who often doesn't know squat about the mechanics and finesse of real racing knows the difference and doesn't carry around the subconsious negative notion of "drag racing" after hearing a news report of a "drag racer" plowing through a crown of spectators on the side of the road or splattering himself and a passenger against a concrete pole.

just read the CNN newsarticle in the first post along with all of the peripheral notes and I CANNOT find anywhere that this is called drag racing-- someone please point that section out to me---
On a similiar note I have contacted the 3 largest newspapers and those reporters in Illinois that write those articles and pointed out that the illegal activity that they are referring to is called street racing in the Illinois Statutes. The Illiinois statues goes on to describe the various forms of street racing and the penalties but it NEVER uses the verbage DRAG RACING--- the papers now report it as illegal street racing ---as for Bieber every once in a while one of these so called "performers/entertainers" comes along and with absolutely no talent hits it big---why I do not know but they seem to do it--FED387

After numerous calls and emails, CNN removed and corrected the term "drag racing" from the news article.

If it has been changed kinda gives you a good feeling about our ability to make a correction.

You'll never get Fox to change it they "only" go for the sensationalism. Maybe if 10,000 people emailed them they might retract it but by then it'll be on the next news item.

This kid obviously has a severe problem. If he does not change his ways it could be fatal in the worst case or at least physically harmful to himself.

Jim. It is what it is. Many years ago I'm sure most of us on here used to Drag race in the street. I made a living at it for almost 2 years. And built and campained an nhra stocker with the proceeds. Didn't completely quit till Wally Parks asked (told) us to.
Back then we were stupid and could not see the possible consequenses. A year after we quit they had a race out by Kennedy airport. And a car a bit slower than what we were running, lost control and killed 2 and injured a bunch more (it could have been us).
Legal or not I have many fond memories of those days.

The kids only problem is to much money and publicity. He can and will buy his way out of this and a lot more.
When I was working at least 10% of the people I worked with had a DUI. Many 15 to 20 years ago.
One ironic thing is. You can not get into Canada if you have EVER had a DUI conviction.
So I wonder if they'll let him go home LOL

Ok, forget for a minute everything you've heard about the Bibb, I personally care about the shame he brings to all Canadian, we've been having our fill of Canadian going brain dead such as our elected officials(Rob Ford Mayor of Toronto) but I have to say that theses days of instant communication in our social media, it doesn't take much to be a celebrity and to remember he's only 19. I have to also comment on "how many guys out there hasn't done something like this when they were young. Let's see, hmmmmm I've raced light to light many times and when I was young I have had a couple of drink past the legal limit(mind you when I was a young man there was no limit just as long you got it home, there was a great chance you wouldn't get picked up or worse. He's a young man with Numskulls for parents(his father was blocking the traffic for his to race on the strip). Let's revue what we've learned, he's rich$250 millions net worth, all the young girls will drop they're panties at hello from him and he likes fast cars. Wow, lucky bastard that we would all have given our left testicle to be him, he's only 19yrs old. I can remember my Drill Sergeant saying at 19 that I was lower than snake excrement, I find that the Bibb is doing better than I was at 19.lol Claude Ruel

I am certainly not trying to defend the kid for what he did but I can understand it. In the early 60s when I was his age you wouldn't believe the flathead/GMC powered junk I tried to street race with. If I would have had his money I'm pretty sure the chances of still being here would not be good. Spending some time in the jungles of south east asia probably was safer for me. There is a reason we call it young and dumb. Hopefully he will see the error in his ways or join the army.
