1967 camaro A/S project

Long story short I ended up selling my hugger orange 99 camaro ls1. And bought my Dads 67 camaro back that he just recently had sold in 2012 and he had ran in it super street with a 4spd and no electronics, and we tried A/S a few races. I decided to tear the whole car apart and make it very, very, nice. The paint and body is flawless and the car was already nice. I just wanted to make it super nice lol. So we tore into it last weekend pulled the small block and the carpeting to put the stock carpeting back in it, and I'll have my dad post some pics as we go. Its gonna be the 396/375 alum head motor. I have pulled everything out and basically a frame off deal and am having it all powder coated. We have got alot accomplished in just 3 days we usually work on it on saturdays.

Pics to follow soon should be a fun build.

I saw that car up close this summer when Jay had it at MAM (we raced each other first round of our stickshift race). That will be a beautiful stocker! Can't wait to see how it runs with the 375!

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

We got the subframe over to the chassis shop for a few things , along with the rearend housing for some new perches. When I get all that back it all goes for powder coating and all new front control arm bushings and front end pieces. We got the firewall all painted this weekend, so as soon as everything gets back we will start to get it back on the ground and rolling. I'm sure it'll be a few weeks to get all that stuff done ,but it should be very nice!

Next the underside of the body gets cleaned up and painted!

Got alot done this weekend ,the knuckles and steering linkage turned out great today! Went with the gray and should look real good with the black subframe and control arms and all new bolts and bushings!

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

If you are after accuracy, the SS396 emblem in the grille is bogus. 67 396 cars only said SS.

TOSTO RACING 12-21-2014 07:28 PM

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

You are correct , I was unaware they didnt say 396 . The car is a real deal ss 350 4 speed 4p car. I am gonna change the emblem so it's correctly cloned as an ss 396. Thanks for the info.

Dwight Southerland 12-22-2014 09:07 AM

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

Information I was given "back when" I converted my car to an SS with the 396-375.

Tim, now you need to find a data logger that looks like an 8 track player. Car is looking really good.

That's all for now next weekend we will get some more pics up.

Got all the stuff back today from the chassis shop.
It looks awesome Fish does excellent work the spring perches are amazing and bottom plates look incredible! He notched the subframe for oil pan clearance and fixed all four body mount holes on the subframe. Got the wheelie bars reworked and shortened to the correct length also.

We got the inner fenders all painted today also. Now it all goes to powder coat. Next Saturday painting the core support and getting the trunk all back together hopefully get some more pics up then.

The subframe is the original 67 stock frame and may be altered for oil pan removal . My 2015 rule book section 10A page 5 says crossmember maybe altered for oil pan removal . If altered, all material and strength must be replaced by boxing or installing removable or permanent
material.

And thanks our chassis guy does do awesome work !

The blue 68 Firebird is my son Todd's and getting updated to 25.5 certifications. He wants to run a 10.5 class hopefully this year with a 540 cu. in. motor and a Liberty 5 speed. I have some pics on my facebook page of his car under Vince Tosto.

Got some more done today, complete front clip back together , subframe connectors in , new leaf springs in ,new caltracs put together , all new control arm bushings , new shafts installed with new tall upper and new lower ball joints, (thanks uncle Tony for putting the bushings and ball joints together without scratching the new powder coat lol) . Upper control arms installed. My dad will put some pics up soon . Next weekend try to put the new Moroso springs in without scratching everything up, and probably put the rearend housing in. That's all for now .

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

Everything looks immaculate. Be interested in the spring number and how much you end up cutting them in the end. I'm sure before long there will be a Rat in ours as well. :)

TOSTO RACING 02-07-2015 11:13 PM

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

Yeh Rich I went with the 47150 spring because it will be alum headed . We had the 47150 spring in the car with the small block with one coil cut off , so I'm hoping that the uncut 47150 is the ticket!

The bbc for me is a first , I hope it goes as well as planned.

HandOverFist 02-07-2015 11:22 PM

Re: 1967 camaro A/S project

We used the same with 1-1/2 coils cut. Looked great for most of the season, but she's in the weeds now lol.
