77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
I have purchased the 77 two door coupe rust free just a couple of spots in the front doors about the size of a 1 size coin . What class will it run in with a 350 4 bbl stick or auto it has the 8.5 rear so it should be ok with better axels and a spool . Would it be better in stock or ss I'm confused with the factoring system they have two listings for the same car both with diffrent weights .

See the "sticky" at the top of the main Stock/Super Stock forum regarding "what class does this run?"

Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
As a Stick you can run H thru K depending on whether you claim Nova or Concours
As an Auto you can run G thru J depending on claiming Nova or Concours Stick is 270 hp Auto is 273 hp This is as a Stocker |
Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
Nice ti meet you in this . I don't understand there is two weights listed for this car I guess I can run it as a concorse if that's the better weight break that's what I'm trying to figure out where it would be best . I raced NASCAR modifides for 20 years this is an away game for me. I did a motor for tony Massari in his buick in 05 he set a record with it . In the front wheel drive class . I just can't do front wheel drive im old school it goes against the laws of nature . Mut that's me ! Why is ther two weight listed for the same car ?

The Concours is an upscale version of the Nova and carries a bit more weight and slightly different trim and lights. Just enough to move it a class or so.

Tell us more about the Muncie.
No reason why you couldn't run a Muncie in T/Stock ...if it had enough low gear in it. |

Not gonna have enough gear in the rear to offset the low gear. Not with the 305 2 bbl. |
Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
I dident think so . But I did see a set of 5.13 gears listed somewhere . Do you think it's enough ??

I figured a 92 " tire and 5.13's . At about a second under (100 mph, give or take) you shouldn't be over 6 grand, which I think is plenty for the medium size 2bbl. on the 305. But you need more first gear. Otherwise it'll hook and bog and kill a bunch of ET. I don't think I'd invest in a 8.5 spool and axles for any stick car though. |
Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
I'm also concerned about the 8.5 being strong enough . What do you think of the Richmond with the 2.88 / 191 / 133/100
With the 5.13 gear . And a 92 tire I think is should get it moving with the 305 just wondering it it can pull between 2 nd and 3 rd with out falling on its face . What intake would be best for that little motor ?? |
Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
2.88 is better. You really need something in the 3.10-3.20 range for first gear and a 305. The 8.5 is plenty strong enough.

Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
What about the tremec 5 speed and take out the 5th gear the way we did the 4 speeds in nascar we removed the teeth off of 1st and 2nd . It has a
3.27 1.98 1.34 1.00 . They don't really shift all that great . |
Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
That would be okay.

The main problem with the T-5 is that it's not durable. If you have access to the 2.88 T-10, you will have less problems with breakage. Plus it is easier to install behind a SB in a Nova.

Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
I think your rite . There's also a 28 inch x9 Hoosier witch should be a little better than a 29 x9 or 30x9 high tire . I think it should hook ok with that tire .
What do you think about using a lower tire for fine tuning the final ratio ?? |
Re: 77 nova stock or s/stock st or auto Help!!!!
Something I haven't mentioned yet.
I built one of those cars (an Olds with a 350 Buick, T 200 , no roll bar) It came out about 600 pounds light for O/SA.... about 3000 and change. You should end up with a bunch of ballast in the back. With a SBC and a stick, I don't see where traction and tires would be much of an issue. |
